I stayed in this property a couple of years ago when it was a DusitD2. The place was drab, unclean and a bit depressing. It wasn’t a good experience and I checked out early.
When I saw that this was now Holiday Inn by IHG managed property, I decided to give it a try. What a difference a management company makes!
It’s location is unparalleled - right in the heart of Ao Nang surrounded but restaurants, bars, shops and convenience stores. The resort has 6 blocks - 2 at the front, along the main thoroughfare of Ao Nang. The remaining blocks are perched on the hill behind. There’s a shuttle bus that goes up and down the little hill frequently or on request. However, many guests including myself would walk up as it’s must of a climb.
My room was smartly designed, clean, bright and the bed was very comfortable. Everything felt fresh. As I was in the block on the hill, I enjoyed sweeping views of the limestone rocks and sea. Definitely worth getting a room up there.
The pool area is spacious even though I didn’t use it much. The gym is private and well-equipped. There is a well designed restaurant that looks into the main road and that was enjoyable to sit there for people watching.
The staff were friendly, kind and helpful. Everyone at reception remembered my name after a day. I was really impressed.
I wish I had stayed longer and will make sure I do the next time I visit Krabi!

Stayed here last weekend. Not stayed at D2 hotels before (4 star branch of famous 5 star Dusit Thani chain).
Check-in was quick and easy. Reception desk staff asked if i had any special requests and upgraded me due to my long use of Dusit Thani hotels (mentioned I'd been using the Dusit chain for many years but had not stayed at D2 before).
Nothing too much trouble for the staff.
Concierge took my bags to my room and was kind and helpful when I asked him about a good cheap seafood restaurant for that night.
Lovely big room, spacious sala/balcony overlooking the pool. Elegant mix of honey coloured warm inviting timber, and marble tile throughout the room. Bed was gorgeous and so comfortable. Slept very well.
Bathroom excellent and large. Big shower with seat and plenty of water from the overhead shower. Nice bath toiletries too :)
Towels were soft and plush. Comfortable chase lounge in room was nice to sit and use the PC while looking out over the palm trees. Pool was clean and quite large and after a long day on the bike was a welcome relaxing for my tired body.
Tea & coffee maker and free water in room. I ordered ice to my room and was not charged for it ... :)
Breakfast was very nice (close to 5 star level), with good selection of fresh fruit, yogurt, and delicious juices. Ordered eggs the way I like them and they arrived quickly and perfectly done. Kitchen staff attentive and speedy. It was a pleasant surprise to find the water for tea and coffee to be very hot and so I enjoyed my Twinings English breakfast tea that day.
I will return to D2 Krabi for sure :) I highly recommend the hotel to anyone wanting great comfort and at a moderate price.

This hotel perches precipitously on a steep plot overlooking the town and the bay.
The rooms are ultra sleek modern with no nods at 'orientalism': i.e. white duvets, blond wood floors, monochrome bathrooms, walk in power showers, tidy glass walled balconies. The staff are friendly and efficient, you get a buggy ride up to your block with your luggage. A super shiny dining area offers a fine full breakfast of every imaginable sort, the fine pool catches the morning sun, twinkles and beckons. It all feels brand new. Nice.

We stayed with our family of 5 over New Year’s and just returned home. We had a family room with 1 king bed and 2 bunk beds + crib for the baby. The room was a decent size, but housekeeping often would only leave 2 towels or forget to restock our toilet paper. The pool didn’t have many chairs, and the poolside bar employees were not very helpful. Shower pressure in the room was barely more than a dribble and the shower head pointed right at the door which had about a 2 cm gap at the bottom, so our bathroom floor was perpetually wet. The water also didn’t get very hot. The AC worked well and wifi was reliable. Coming from the US I’d forgotten how common smoking in public areas can be, so that was unpleasant but not unique to this hotel. We booked a 4 island tour at the hotel lobby desk but would not recommend that at all as other tours seemed more organized than ours. The restaurant is ok, but breakfast is very limited and there are better options along the street. The kids club had activities scheduled but when we went there was nobody there at all and the front desk wasn’t able to find anyone, so our kids were disappointed. The high point of the hotel would be the spa, and the front desk employees were very nice and helpful.
Overall it was fine, and for the price it’s a decent value. Just don’t go with the expectation of luxury resort amenities and you’ll be ok.

We stayed here in June 2019. I thought I had already written this review but it appears I have not. We could not fault our stay here. The rooms are new and modern and spacious and extremely comfortable. We had two rooms with an interconnecting door. The balconies were large and equipped with comfortable outdoor furniture. The bathroom had a lovely walk in shower, large sink and plenty of towels. The room has a fridge and kettle and complimentary tea and coffee. There are also things in the room to purchase. The TV was good. Plenty of wardrobe space and a large settee to lounge on.
The hotel is opposite a 7/11 or family mart (cant remember which) so you can stock up on water and milk and treats if you wish.
We celebrated a birthday whilst staying here and the staff went above and beyond by decorating the room with lots of balloons and also a cake. They made an incredible effort.
The staff were very knowledgeable of the area in terms of restaurants, tours, bike hire and laundry etc. Nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel is situated about a 7 minute walk from the beach. There are lots of restaurants and bars on the doorstep. We had a room which looked over the front street but we did not have any problems with noise.
The swimming pool was well staffed and loungers were comfortable. In June we had sunshine until around 5pm.
The hotel is spread out so you can expect some sort of walk / climb to your room. We asked for rooms as close to reception as possible. We had to take a lift and climb about 5 stairs. it took less than 2/3 minutes from reception.
We loved our stay and we would stay here again without hesitation.

Recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort Ao Nang Krabi. If you were at the Holiday Inn Resort Krabi pre-pandemic, this is not the same location. That one left IHG and this one joined. I think this hotel is much better located than the prior one and overall I like it better, but YMMV.
All staff from front office to restaurant to housekeeping were fantastic! All friendly, greeting you every time you pass by. Hospitality as it should be. A coupon for wecome drinks was provided at check in. The room was comfortable and nice. We had a Mountain View Standard Room with Balcony, which was an upgrade from Garden View Standard (Diamond Status with IHG). The Premium rooms appear to have a larger balcony, but I did not see inside any to see the other differences. The housekeeping staff had made a towel animal and spelled out a thank you for your loyalty message with popsicle sticks on the bed, and an amenity plate of treats was delivered as well. The only minor complaint about the room is the mirror is not over the sink but to the side of the sink. Not a big deal, but just felt odd. We enjoyed the location of the room, but a word of caution for those with mobility issues. This hotel is built onto the side of a mountain and we were in Building 6, at the top of the property. They do have carts and will drop you off, and come to pick you up when you call from the phone in the Building 6 lobby, but if you walk there are steps involved. You can take the elevator from the lobby to floor 3, which is the pool, and walk to the other side of the pool and then roughly two flights of steps up. Additionally, the hotel lobby and restaurant sits one floor above street level. You either walk up the steep drive, or you enter the street level bar and take the stairs up to the restaurant and lobby level. I did not see an elevator for that anywhere.
At check in, the Diamond choices were offered and we chose breakfast. The breakfast buffet had a nice assortment that would appeal to most with Western, Asian and Indian selections. They do have an omelette station which is nice as well. Coffee is via two machines that will do specialty coffees as well. The only problem is the machines are a bit temperamental and can go out of service requiring staff intervention, and even when working they are extraordinarily slow. Again, not a huge issue, just noting.
Ao Nang beach is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel, and many of the better restaurants are clustered near the hotel. Highly recommend Cru and Reeve (on the beach) if you are in the area. Reeve has a fire knife show each night at 8pm on the beach. The hotel restaurant had great food (both Thai and Western) and live entertainment each night as well.
Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be going back again.

Rooms are sizeable, modern and clean, with the balcony being an added benefit if you choose that.
Pool is big enough, but I can imagine that it would have been very crowded had Coronavirus not been affecting guest numbers at the time.
The cocktails at happy hour are only happy if you buy 4 times as many as one normally would. So it’s not such a happy hour, after all.
The customer service at the restaurant outside is borderline embarrassing. It takes the word ‘slow’ to another dimension. Given that there were only a handful of people dining, the dining staff struggled to cope with even small numbers of guests.
My friend ordered a standard cocktail, which took 30 minutes to arrive.
I dread to imagine the enormous influx of complaints when the restaurant is full.
When the bill arrived, it appeared that I had also paid for a number of other people’s dinners! ‘Transaction successful’ is not an ambiguous statement on an invoice!
This entailed management involvement etc etc. It’s not really the kind of thing you’re hoping for, especially after a record breakingly sloooooooow meal. And everything that came with it.
The entire evening restaurant experience was so disastrous, for some reason I did not feel compelled to go back.
A trip down to seafood street is quicker, and that includes the 30 minute walk to get there!

We are seasoned travelers to Thailand, having been 17 times. We are staying at the Dusit D2 Ao-Nang for 21nights in room 4402 and it’s been wonderful. The room is beautiful, really big, modern and the TV is a 55” IPTV, perfect HD Picture, the balcony is really spacious with a great view of the pool. The hotel staff are all really friendly and extremely helpful, especially “X” at reception. We met the manager Sasha, true gentleman and honestly concerned about everyone’s wellbeing. This hotel is situated in a perfect location in Ao-Nang, nestled into a quiet hillside for peace and tranquility yet on the doorstep you have all the bars, restaurants, shops and nightlife that anyone could need. We will definitely be coming back and we haven’t even left yet!!

My first trip since COVID post lockdown, the room is so nice! I got a resident promotion so makes everything so worthy and felt the luxury vibes at an affordable price 😁 Loved the bed, so comfy, the balcony has great views too! I booked the D’Light balcony and stayed in building no.6 on the 5th floor. You can request what kind of view you would like for this type of room. Now the staffs are very flexible with your bookings too, they are very tentative! As of now, breakfast is available (small buffet), but the restaurant is not open for lunch or dinner, there is also no in room dining service. Overall very pleasant and highly recommend.

Dear Khun Veeyadap, Thank you for staying at our beautiful hotel as one of the first guests after we reopened. Thank you for recommending our D'Light room, the breakfast and the promotional offer to other reviewers. Our beds are indeed better than most of the hotel around us. Please be informed that our restaurant Rakhang Thai Bistro & Bar will open on 23 July for dinner (17:00 - 22:00). We are looking forward to welcome you back at Dusit D2 Ao Nang. While the staff are very nice, the location superb, and the spa is fantastic; overall, not a good place for guests who dislike smoking, have young children, or want to avoid climbing steep hills. The resort is very loud at night from 7pm to past midnight. We complained numerous times that our 18 month was having trouble sleeping due to a nearby band (unclear if it was from the hotel restaurant or nearby) but staff said there was nothing they could do. We had some trouble with our room (plumbing, safe, air con) and got used to spending each morning waiting around for staff to fix the latest issue. I get the sense this place is understaffed because of the slow response to maintenance requests and room service. Guests literally smoke everywhere here despite the hotel advertising itself as non smoking. Guests were even smoking at the children’s pool! Which does not close at 7pm as posted. Loud guests were swimming well past 9pm when my daughter was already asleep. Rooms are quite small, do not have bath tubs, and we had many issues with ours. The desk staff were nice and understanding, but there was really very little they could do. The building we stayed in was up a very steep hill which was difficult for my pregnant wife to climb and not very friendly for guests with strollers. Breakfast ok, but long lines for eggs, restaurant also understaffed. The whole place is just poorly designed, and not professionally run. On the plus side the gym and playroom were nice, but not as nice as others at similarly priced hotels in the region. For the steep price, definitely a pass. Better off spending more for something better or less for similar quality.

Dear 702joej, Thank you for staying with us and for leaving your feedback. I have taken note on other guests smoking at the hotel and will brief my team again on this. Please be informed that the sound comes from other restaurants in Ao Nang. Thank you for the details again and we do appreciate your valuable comments indeed. I still hope we could welcome you again to show you we can do better.
