The staff were helpful and friendly but not intrusive. A buffet breakfast was included with ample selections of soft drinks, tea and/or coffee, toaster, butter, marmalade, cereals, fried eggs, rice, noodles, french toast, american pancakes and syrup. Lunch is served either at the restaurant or the pool and dinner is available in the evening, both reasonably priced.
The pool was lovely and also shaded by trees which was absolutely necessary. The water was an ideal temperature being neither cold nor warm.
The hotel is on a main road but set well back down a short drive. We did not hear any traffic noise, or noise from other hotels at all. In that respect it is quite secluded. The walk to the beach takes about 10 minutes and there are many places of all kinds to eat only a few seconds away.
Tuk tuks are plentiful and cheap and a good way of getting around.
Other than that, couldn't ask for better.
If the management is the same, the hotel service was wonderful, discreet, and helpful. The rooms were immaculate and comfortable. The pool was so beautiful and the grounds were something we never expected. At the time, it was the low season and we only paid $38/night. It was SHOCKING as backpackers to get a place so wonderful for so cheap. We ate at the hotel restaurant every night and it was great.
The only "down" side is that it was a muslim hotel and therefore didn't serve alchohol.
This was a quiet place meant for relaxing. If you're looking for active nightlife, you'll have to go into town (a short ride off).
Your mouths will drop open when you enter from the front desk into the grounds. That, I can guarantee you.
We would go back tomorrow if we could. I'm jealous of anyone planning to go!!!!!
The hotel was not affected by the tsunami at all. Internet cafes and bars are a short walk or taxi ride away. In 2002, there was a lot of infrastructure construction going on (paving roads, adding sidewalks) and we still had a great time.
Couple of negative comments:-
Swimming pool has only 8, yes 8 places to sit down. On more than one occassion we could not sit by the pool. Pool itself was good though.
Breakfast, no exaggeration, was the worst I have ever had. It was simply awful. In the 8 days we had it the 1st day and thats it - you will find out. Plenty of local restaurants you can get a cheap breakfast from though.
Room maids are good but dont understand one bit 'do not disturb'.
All in all i would definately recommend this resort, very relaxing. The restaurant in the hotel is worth visiting for dinner (not brekkie!!), and although close to some loud bars you cannot hear them at all until you walk out of resort. Just be aware of the pool and brekkie situation.
I must address the recent negative reviews. I'm not sure what was so irritating to these people. We were very satisfied. I am wary of reviewers who spend their precious vacation time taking pictures of peeling paint or cracked tiles. The hotel is not 5 star but it's lovely.
The staff were fine. I don't need them waiting on me hand and foot. They helped us out with miscellaneous minor things when we asked. We didn't eat dinner in the restaurant. It was mostly deserted. They could use a liquor license. Plus the out-of-the-way location does not draw diners into the street. As noted by others you can get your alcohol at the 711 or minimart a few steps away and have it in your room or by the pool.
The buffet breakfast was totally fine, except the coffee was not very hot and the cups were too small. These are minor complaints. We would definitely stay here again.
I booked this hotel based on the good reviews and excellent value for money. We booked one of the larger rooms which I must admit was a really good size with a nice view overlooking the pool. You really do feel quite secluded in the hotel as it is so set back from the main road within what many would call a mini rainforest. It did rain on a few days but sitting on the balcony with such magnificent views did help us to overlook the bad weather!
Check in was good although I do feel that more could have been done to welcome us to the hotel. You get used to friendly hosts in Thailand so this was a bit of a let down.
The restaurant was fantastic in the evening with prices competing very well with those on the street. However, the breakfast was very poor and was worth missing. You should also note that they dont serve alcohol in the hotel but you can bring your own for meals.
Check out was the major negative of the trip. The lady checking us out who I beleive to be the mangager was clearly only concerned about her money, not about our stay. She tapped in a few figures on her calculator and shoved it in our faces, not even explaining what it was for. Apparanlty we drank water from the minibar which wasnt free - no big deal, it was less than £1. But then she also added on 1000 bhat for airport transfer, which we did not have. After checking her files she did take this off.
We also booked a boat to take us from the hotel to Phuket. The van arrived for us and we were told that we had no tickets. We did book them with reception the previous day and paid for them on checkout. I had to go back to recption to query this. The manager was most put out by me asking for my tickets. She pointed at us to talk to somebody else whilst she walked away with a friend. After spending 4 days in the hotel I was most upset by her actions.
The other problem related to my mobile phone. This went missing from my room at checkout. I did try to call it but it had been switched off once it was stolen. The manager wasnt in the least bit concerned and didnt even come to recpetion to discuss the issue. So it wasnt a happy ending to a good stay at the hotel.
