I have just come back from a wonderful trip to Krabi last week and stayed at the Sunda Resort for 3 nights. Based on other past reviews on this hotel, I will instead provide my reviews as follows.

The Hotel
Lush greeneries throughout the hotel makes you feel close to nature. There is a mosque nearby the hotel which I have no issues with the sounds coming from it when they call for prayers and such. You can always choose a room further away should this be a problem to you. The hotel is not a beach front hotel but the beach area is just short ride away which the hotel is more than happy to provide you with a shuttle service to the beach. You can even call them up to pick you up afterward.

The Room
We stayed at the Canal Side Room which I can confirm offers a “better” privacy since the sliding doors opens up to private balcony as opposed to other rooms which has a different entrance and design. But then again, if you prefer to closer to the pool area, you probably will prefer to Pool View Room. I must say however that privacy at this hotel is an issue overall especially for us Asian generally and Muslims specifically. Hence you may need to close the curtains at all times to ensure total privacy.
There were previous reviews highlighting the “incomplete” bathroom. All I can say is I find them acceptable probably because the Asian culture see this type of bathroom as not something “odd”. Having said that, the hotel could have just completed the finishes because it does look like that they are trying to save cost when constructing this.
I must say however that the rooms are well kept and clean. The housekeeping department has done an excellent job in my opinion.

The Restaurant
Since our package includes not just breakfast, we managed to sample some other local food during dinners and I must say that they exceptionally delicious. What makes it even better is the hotel serves 100% Halal food and they are reasonably priced too.

The reception (people)
This is one area where I believe the hotel can improve further in fact by a lot. Communication is not much an issue for us unlike experienced by some other reviewers. As Malaysian we are able to communicate with them in common local dialect apart from English which makes it easier for us. What is frustrating is they seems not to be “customer centric” when doing things and they have more than enough people to manage to hotel patrons but somehow they don’t look like they are motivated or enjoying what they do. I would like to think that I am not a demanding customer but I believe hotel staff needs to demonstrate they are willing to go that extra mile at times so that you and the hotel will be remembered. Can’t believe that the immediate answer we received when requesting for some basic things are NO without even trying.

We selected this resort based on previous reviews (which were mostly positive) and the photos we saw on the Sunda website. The photos of rooms and facilities shown on their website was to our liking. And what you see in the website is also what you actually get.

Location
-----------
The resort is not along the busy main streets of Aonang. It is close to the Boxing Stadium. Apart from an independent restaurant outside the resort and Krabi Aquamarine Resort, we did not see anything else in the immediate vicinity of the resort. The location is on the quiet side, which is ideal for relaxation. The resort is surrounded by greens and this makes for a serene atmosphere. Getting around to Aonang and Nopparat Thara beach is no issue at all. The resort provides free transportation to these places and back (you have to call them). We bought a pre-paid SIM card for THB49 and it was enough for the 5 days we were there. We used the free transportation service very frequently since we had 3 children and found that the service was good and fuss free. The free transport runs from 8am to 9.30pm. After hours, tuk-tuk's from Aonang to the resort cost total of THB100, for 2 adults and 3 children.

Swimming Pools
--------------------
There are two swimming pools and during the time we were there (last week of Dec 2011), we often had the pool to ourselves. It was most satisfying to jump in the pool after a day of walking around or coming back from a day excursion. The pools go to a max depth of around 5 feet. But there are children areas at both pools which are fairly shallow. Resort provides pool/beach towels and guests are allowed to take these to the beach or on day excursions to the islands. You can get these at the reception. Just do not lose them, you will be required to pay for lost towels.

Breakfast
------------
Our room rate came with breakfast. There was cut fruits, cereal, muesli, salad, fried eggs, sausages, slices of meat (chicken?), fried rice, fried noodles, porridge, pancakes, french toast, mix vegetables, yoghurt, buns, croissants, sliced bread, an omelette station, milk, coffee, tea, water, and 2 types of fruit juice. Breakfast runs from 7-10am.
Take note of a sign at the entrance of the resort restaurant: alcohol is not permitted in the restaurant.
The resort restaurant is halal, which will appeal to Moslem guests.

Rooms
---------
Rooms were clean and comfortable. We slept well. Beds were equipped with duvets (instead of standard blankets), which added to the comfort level. TV is small, CRT type. Some cable channels are available (example: Star Movies, BBC, sports channel etc). Rooms come with a fridge, kettle and a small safe (too small to keep a laptop, but suitable for cash, passport and compact cameras).
Canal room comes with a fairly generous balcony. Balcony is facing the canal and surrounded by trees.
For the canal room bathroom, the photos (on the resort website) seems to indicate that it is an open shower. However, it is fully closed. Part of the ceiling is translucent material, letting sunshine in and giving the illusion of an open shower. Nice concept. Simple but works.

Wifi
-----
Wifi comes complimentary with the room. The wifi service was good, fast enough for Youtube and the likes.
If you did not bring your laptop, or any other internet enabled device, there is a desktop computer at the reception area. It is free for resort guests. You can also print from this desktop computer. First 3 pages are free. After that, the resort charges THB15 for each additional page.

Overall this is a pleasant and comfortable resort. Environment is peaceful and there is a "feel good" factor. Staff are friendly and genuine. No reason why I will not come back.

My wife and I loved this place as it is close to the beautiful Ao Nang beach and has a charm of its own. It is built in a resort style over a big area and is about 3kms away from the beach. One can hire a scooty or take the free pick and drop service which we found quite efficient. The rooms are basic, nothing fancy but I guess that's what I had opted for. And for the price that I paid I cannot complain. It's away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist attractions so that you can enjoy the countryside yet is close enough to the main spots. The service is excellent but remember there is no check in before 2 so you might have to wait. I am definitely going to visit this place if I am in Krabi again.

The cleanliness level here is just a big no. Looks like a lot of the room, especially the bathroom, hasn’t been properly cleaned in years. I asked them to do a deep clean in my bathroom as soon as I checked in as it was just horrible, all they did was scrub the inside of the toilet, not the outside of it, and barely wash around the sink. I gagged when I showered because it was so gross, towels all had spots on them. All that the daily housekeeping did was make the bed, change the towels and sweep. Also few amenities here - and no restaurant which was a hassle. Pool also needed more upkeep.
I give 2 stars instead of 1 because the staff was nice and friendly and the location itself was beautiful.

Run by Muslims, not friendly, mosque next door so call to prayer at 5 am quite loud.
Far from town, need a tuk tuk there and back.

Rooms are lovely at the pool side but canal side is more a murky muddy mosquito breeding ground.

Food is pitiful, not edible and cold.

No alcohol allowed.... see above!

Most unfriendly crew ever encountered.

Dont bother- liked nothing but the tropical grounds and gardens

I recently stayed at Sunda Resort and was not at all impressed with the services recieved. The bathroom was not that great and the breakfast in the morning was just ok. My other friends told me for the rates i was staying i could find other property right on the beach front. i went with a group and all my other friends did not enjoy it either. At night there was a lot of noises and we could not get any sleep. the pool is really small and not as big as seen in the picture. I would not want to go back there again.

I travelled from 5-11 May 2012 with my partner . Ive read many reviews stating that hotel was terrible and many of holidaymakers were not pleased . I was prepared to leave the hotel , but i wanted to check it for myself, so i decided to stay over for a night.I must say ,the experience it is you have paid for.The hotel isnt lush, its simple, hot water for showers, a small pool ,airconditioning and a tv is all that we needed here.We just need a place to rest after our tours ie; phi phi island,4 island, elephant trekking and also the james bond island tour. The hotel is nestled up away from the busy aonang beach, they provide free shuttle service to the aonang beach, and back to the hotel. However , their last pick up is at 9.30pm , but we always managed to get tuk tuk back to our hotel for about 600 bhat for 2 people.
The breakfast isnt lavish, its simple ,bread, eggs, ham ,sausages, cereals, muffins , porridge and thai dishes ,-pad thai, rice ,fish or meat curries. But it was sufficient, the pool is a small pool.
The hotel's environment is some what of rainforest like, with chalets . We enjoyed our stay here. The staffs are friendly and they have a cute cat named charlie that can be seen at relaxing at the lobby while we waited for our transport.

We weren't expecting the resort to be so far from the beach, and felt a little hesitant, on getting out of our sidecar tuk tuk. But we were greeted with a delightful smiling receptionist, who knew our names and was expecting us....even though I thought I had only tentatively booked in!
The resort was only a few months old, and the garden is still being established. With only 30 units, it is small and intimate. The staff are absolutely wonderful, and caring. We chose a room backing on to the "canal" with a lovely outdoor covered in pergola and seating. Opposite our front door was the swimming pool.
For most of our week's stay, we had the resort to ourselves, and enjoyed leaving the drapes open looking out at the rainforest to the canal. The night sounds clacking and chirping, and who knows what else, was wonderful. Truly a little bit of paradise.
The staff could not do enough for us, and we could eat in our room, or in the restaurant.
We shouldn't have worried about being too far from the beach, or the town of Ao Nang, because our tuk tuk was available at any time of day or night, for only 20 baht per person. If that wasn't available, the staff ordered one from town to come and get us. We loved Ao Nang, especially after having been to Patong, where we were harassed by touts on exiting our resort there. Everything was reasonably priced (unlike Patong) - transport, food, gifts. We were able to get people to understand us quite well, as most has a sprinkling of English.
We would highly recommend this delightful resort if you want a quiet holiday, not far from the crowds. (Although in mid May - it was without many tourists, possibly because it is the rainy season!!!) We did get rain, but it made lying on the bed reading and looking out at the rainforest even more pleasant.
Forgot to mention the towels - every day we had fresh linen, and the towels were displayed in shapes of elephants or swans - so beautiful. And the bathroom was amazing - the shower floor was stone stepping stones, with pebbles in between, and the roof was partly clear perspex which allowed the rain in to water the shrubs at the end of the shower.
All in all - a reasonably priced resort, so different from the normal hotel type of resort, with lovely staff and great food.

I have travel to Krabi on 15 -17 March 2012 and we stayed over at Sunda Resort.

Hotel

Hotel is 30 mins from the airport and its is 15 mins from ao nang city by free shuttle provided by the hotel. The free shuttle is one of the plus point other wise ao nang city is abt 30 to 40 mins by walk (depends how fast u walk). The staff were great and help full but not cheerful.

Room

The room was good, and very clean. The bathroom were also in good shape and clean. They clean our room every day and no complaines on that part only one thing the second day when we came back there were FROG in the bathroom. That scared me :)) otherwise its cool. Room Service is really bad as we oder Ice and they ask us to get it from 7 eleven.so dunt call for that.:))

Safa Cafe(Breakfast)

The cafe were nice, kinda intresting as the serounding is assive u are in forest :)) only thing there can be mosquiter at times. The breakfast was good ,there have corn flakes, muesli, milk(cold, luke warm) fried rice, fried noodles, eggs, breads, jam and butter, toasts, fruits, cofee and tea,2 type juices.

Shopping

If you are the type who would like the hotel to be like step out and straight shopping or have the happening places arround the sunda isn't for you. The hotel do have free shuttle to town but its only till 9.30pm and who would like to go back to the hotel at 9.30pm. So its a lil troublesome at times. and trust me once u are so tired u cant really walk back to the hotel.

In Ao Nang City

Ban Lay Restaurant is good and the food is tasty. However i believe its a lil overprice as the same food is cheaper in other plc. but the sourinding is what u are payying for as it at beach side:)).

Tandorri Night is Indian Restaurant and the food were very very good. Their naan, chicken kadai, aloo peratha, chicken shekh kebab is fantastic you should try. their price were also reasonable can be consider cheap.

Norrie India is another indian restaurant they serve nice food as well and we had our dinner they too. Please take note do not waste you time going to Namathe India the food just OK and they charge expensive plus nothing great for the environment.

Massage i would suggest the parlour near by Swadish massage(NOT SWADISH as its expensive and alwiz not enough plp) you need to take staircase to this place is some thing starting with L. As for manicure and pedicure pleace do not go to miracle massage as their quality of wrk is so bad and u pay for nothing. Try parlor oppsite swadesh maddase. The fat lady over there is really nice and the qork she do is really satisfied.

Overall its nice place to relax, shop and masage and then shop again massage again and relax..:))

My partner and I stayed here in February 2015 and enjoyed our stay. We stayed here for two weeks this time and were looking forward to getting back to Sunda.

First of all the positives. The resort is in a lovely setting amongst jungle foliage and is on the whole quiet. 99% of the staff are friendly and helpful. The place has two pools that although heavily chlorinated and in need of some refurbishment are nice and you can relax here feeling that you are really around nature. The free tuk tuk means that you can get to Ao nang and close areas for free and the tuk tuk is readily available. The resort offers treatments and laundry service etc.The rooms are spacious and cleaned daily with effective air con.The wifi had also improved considerably since our last stay

The negatives for us were that our room needed some maintenance and redecoration. The bathroom had a pipe in it that had been taped up rather than replaced and leaked constantly onto the floor and down the side of the door. The bathroom door also locked itself several times while we're were there and despite asking we weren't ever given a key so we could open it if it locked which was a major inconvenience. There were lots of ants and flys that caused issues at breakfast and some foods and surfaces in the dining room were covered in ants. As mentioned the pool has some tiles that were broken and could could cause injury if swimmers aren't careful. The bathrooms themselves could do with more finishing, we found this novel last time we stayed but the open slats let in lots of mosquitoes and due to the door locking itself randomly we had to keep this ajar at night leading to an unimpeded route into the room for the mosquitoes
As mentioned although most staff were very helpful a couple were quite rude. Also we saw some staff at night sleeping on benches outside rooms which didn't look great nor did areas of what appeared to be tarpaulin on some of the roofs around the complex.

We paid around 33gbp a night for the room and breakfast for us both which is very reasonable. However we have been to other hotels in Thailand that although marginally more expensive offered a much better level of comfort, finish and service. As a result I would rather spend a little bit more money for a better hotel in the future.

If Sunda spent a bit of money on refurbishing rooms and the pools and addressed its insect issues in the dining room it would be a brilliant resort to be honest we felt it looked at times a bit run down.
