Detailed Reviews
Nice hotel , clean friendly close to everything comfy beds . The only thing that made me to never want to come and stay here again is the 35$ fee I had to pay at check out for my son getting sick in the middle of the night he threw up on the sheets and charged me for a washing me , like really I even offer to wash them myself and they wouldn’t let me. They even charged a lady 10$ for having sand on a towel . I had never encounter these kind of ridiculous fees . I rather stay where I alway go . This is what we get for trying out a different hotel .

Hello Mrs. Fuentes, When someone throws up un one of our beds, apart from the sheets and another bed linen, we have to deep wash our mattresses. This costs money and time from our personnel, thank you for understanding. Hotel towels are not supposed to leave the premises, but in either case, we do not charge for having sand on them, some guests use towels to clean their shoes, cars etc. in this cases we do charge for the towel and the guest gets to keep it.

For being a first timer the staff @ the front desk office was un professional. Weren’t organize & seem like they didn’t care. I didn’t receive the membership discount & was aware they where going to fix it when checking out which never happened..all they can do is give a discount for the next visit but having all the issue Im still thinking about it the room wasn’t clean at all specially the toilet seem like they forgot to scrub it & they forgot to put towels in too .. Idk very disappointed & the floor were dirty too maybe I got a room that was clean in a hurry to just book me in 🤷🏽♀️ & the mattress was super hard I woke up kinda sore 😫

I just returned from a weekend at the El Cid. It had been about 5 years since I was last there and as I remembered the hotel, it was a decent place to stay, somewhat charming but nothing to write home about. Well, upon my arival I was in for a pleasant surprise. The town of Ensenada has changed dramatically over the last 10 years and the changes with in the last 5 years have been incredible. The entire town has been through a tastefull renovation and the El Cid has gone along for the ride. The rooms are small but have been decorated with a great rustic style.
There are no stereotypes in the decore (i.e., what Americans might characterize as "real Mexican charm"). Rather, it is obvious that the hotel hired experienced decorators who have designed the interior of the hotel with great thought and taste and yet in a very basic style.
The people at the front desk were very helpful and seemed to be anxious to make sure I got every discount available....("...do you have a AAA card....I can give you an additional discount if you do") Very impressive. Finally, the El Cid is right down town within walking distance...or if you go to Hussongs, crawling distance... to everything downtown Ensenada has to offer. Needless to say, I will be back to Ensenada soon and when I return, I'm staying at the El Cid.

When we arrived the clerk was very rude, we arrived at the hotel at 2:45 and we could not enter the room until 3 p.m. sharp. I had forgotten my wallet and had paid in advance and I had copies of my driver's license and passport on my phone, he would not accept this, and I had my vehicle registration as well, extremely rude. When we checked out they tried to charge us for water battles which were NEVER provided, we had to go buy water to drink outside the hotel. I cannot believe that they charge any money for drinking water for the rates they charge. They don't provide coffee either as tif this was a huge expense for them. Water and coffee are items generally provided by good hotels in every city and country I have ever traveled to. I would never recommend nor stay at this hotel ever again.

The staff was friendly and attentive. The room exceeded our expectations and we had a great view plus easy access to the patio and pool. The room was clean and the location was very convenient as it is in the tourist area. My only complaint is the parking, as it is very hard for large cars to park there. Will definitely book this hotel again next time I’m in Ensenada

AC unit was leaking water. After reporting it to the front desk , they turned it off. AC didn't get fixed. Hoping they would give us a different room but no luck. Couldn't get any rest due to hot and humid weather. Possibly the last time I stay there.

Too bad TA doesn't have a "0" to rate this hotel, since that's what I'd use! Avoid this hotel at all costs!!! We checked in 09/27 and about an hour later checked right back out!
Walking into the hotel lobby was dark, dirty, and smelled of urine to me, and old molded wood to my husband. YUCK!
I thought maybe it was just the lobby and the rooms would be better... but NO! The rooms smelled the same, and were in need of some serious repairs. The carpet was so frayed that it almost looked like felt, and the strapy leather chairs looked as if you were to sit in them you'd fall right through from them breaking. I thought "Well, it's only two nights, we can swing this..." but after 10 minutes of sitting on the bed, we couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't even bring myself to lay down because the bedding looked filthy. We went back down to the lobby and asked for a different room. They showed us 3 other rooms, all in the same condition! Actually 2 rooms had new carpet, but had that same horrendous smell and pathetic furniture! The 3rd room we checked out had a view of the pool area... BUT NO POOL! Pool-yes, water-no, construction-yes... aweful-too say the least!
Needless to say, we checked out immediately. They didn't want to refund us our deposit, saying there was a cancellation policy. And normally I would agree, but I booked directly through the Best Western website and it mentioned nothing of the pool being out of commission... so I fought them on it. It was like pulling teeth! A quick call to BW headquaters and voila', we were let out of our contract (two nights at $48 each night.) As we were there at the front counter tring to get our money refunded, another hotel guest was complaing of problems as well.
We called the SCUBA dive shop we were going through and asked for a hotel recomendation. He suggested Las Rosas... For $30 more a night, we slept peacefully in much better conditions! Read our trip report on Las Rosas for more info...
BEWARE if you stay at BW El Cid, and don't say you wern't warned!!!

This hotel is in bad need of renovations; the room didn't appear to be particularly clean, had frayed, stained carpet, dingy spreads, and sheets so thin you could read through them (had it not been so poorly lit in the room that you couldn't read). The front desk staff was unsmiling and unfriendly. Because of some other reviewers favorable posts, we decided to give their restaurant a try for dinner and were quite disappointed with that as well - overpriced for quite mediocre food. I'm sorry to say that I cannot find one good thing to say about this hotel. Best Western certainly needs to review whatever criteria they use to offer the Best Western "brand".
