No matter how many times I have been to Mexico (and it’s been plenty) I always discover something new and unique. I can’t say enough about this brand new boutique hotel in Chonchas Chinas. Hotelito Patio Azul a hidden gem and the staff is outstanding! It's only been open a few months but it has the potential to be a 5 star experience when everything is fully up and running.

What's great about it is it's new everything! Very stylish decor and great views. I found the staff to be the most helpful and accommodating of any 5 star hotel I've stayed. They all do what ever they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

A coupe of things that I'm told will be corrected soon is the restaurant. At the moment, it only serves breakfast and lunch, and there is no wine available yet. So check before you confirm if this is important to you. The food in the restaurant is very good with a couple of options worth trying. The manager,Luis always remembered my name and that I am GF. It's a nice personal touch.
There are no other restaurants or stores in the area so you must uber it to town to eat. The hotel is up on a hill and not really walkable at night for dinner. Also, there is one place that will deliver, the food wasn't bad especially on my first night when I arrived starving.
Issac who worked at the front desk went on a run for me for wine and spirits, he was so kind and helpful. above the call of duty for sure.
Pricilla who also works at the front desk was friendly and loaned me her iPhone charger when I broke mine.
The spa is small but good. I got a good massage and soaked in the mineral bath, very relaxing afternoon. The price for a massage was high in my opinion for Mexico, pretty much the equivalent of a high end US place, about $125, so I only got one.
At the moment there are no phones in the rooms, so if you need something you must go to the front desk or send a text on WhatsApp. I'm not sure if they are planning to install a phone to contact the front desk, but I think it's needed. Also, there is no gym, but I think there is a plan to have some exercise equipment in the spa area.
There are 3 different patios all with great views providing different things. pool/restaurant, jacuzzi (not very hot) and the most relaxing one is on the floor with the library. There is also another bar there but it was not open durning my stay. However it will be wonderful when it is.
Finally, if you have problems with steps, this place is not for you. There is no elevator and you must walk up and down steps to get everywhere. But if you have no trouble, I recommend this place.

We had an okay experience at Patio Azul that could have been amazing with better service and hospitality. The view of the bay is spectacular and the hotel’s design (furnishings, decoration, installations) is world class and totally unique. The problem was the food and everything related to it. The restaurant is called “The Lottery” for good reason: you don’t know what you’re getting and you almost always lose. Our first night they neglected to tell us beforehand that there would be no dining service that evening, so we had few options given the remote location. We wound up ordering a pizza that the concierge arranged and it was very overpriced ($600 pesos) and not good. We had breakfast at the hotel the next morning and it was very disappointing. Ingredients were not fresh, poor quality, tasteless and overpriced. Plates were missing elements that were supposedly included. We ordered a capuchino which they had no idea how to prepare and the coffee instead they offered was lousy. We gave them another chance at breakfast the next morning, ordered more typically Mexican dishes (chilaquiles) and again, it was disgusting, almost inedible. The icing on the cake was at checkout. The bill seemed high so I asked why we were charged $440 pesos (22 USD) for two small glasses of sparkling water. The manager reluctantly admitted it was a mistake but seemed to think we were lying, made no apology, didn’t ask how our stay was. She agreed to lower the price to $110 (5.50 USD) per water, saying “that’s the best I can do”. It was really unpleasant and left us with a very negative impression of an otherwise amazing hotel. My recommendation is that they get a different chef (Puerto Vallarta is full of amazing chefs) and hire some more professional administrators in line with the high cost of the hotel.

Our stay at Patio Azul was wonderful! The best qualities: quiet adults-only vibe, gorgeous patios with views of the Pacific, chill outdoor bar area, clean rooms, wonderful staff (Eduardo became our favorite person immediately—he’s a kind, hard working young man, with plans of starting his own little restaurant), daily fresh towels and water and bed made each day. The views are amazing and the pools and jacuzzi were clean and tidy. The food was great—we only had breakfast and one dinner there, because we chose to go into town and wanted variety. Our room AC worked great and the view of the Pacific from the Monarca room is superb. Minor issue resolved quickly: our toilet water pipe had a small leak and it took them a few days to fix it. The WIFI needed to be reset once. Staff responded quickly. Stated breakfast schedule is 8am but you won’t get coffee or food until closer to 845am. It didn’t bother us at all. In PV you are on Mexico time. The location was close to the Zona Romantica—20 minutes on foot with a huge hill to go up and down, if you’re walking. We loved the walk and exercise. You can always Uber up and down very easily. If you like public trans, the bus stops are at the bottom of the hill. There is an OXXO convenience store at the bottom too, for your own beer and snacks. Conchas Chinas, Amapas, and Lindo Mar beaches are nearby. You can walk to them, if you are OK with the hills.

And just like that, a quick left turn out of the hustle and bustle of Conchas Chinas, leads you to the charming quiet solace of Patio Azul. The winding cobblestone roads and antiquated street lamps remind you of what Puerto Vallarta may have been like many years ago. The boutique hotel is beautifully decorated. The staff was immediately so helpful and welcoming. The hotel is situated up a hill and is vertical in design which would not be suitable for anyone who has problems climbing stairs. The room had an excellent view of the ocean and we were able to see whales breaching in the distance. The bedding was very comfortable and the A/C worked great which were MUST haves for our vacation. The room advertised a hair dryer but didn’t have one so we had to call for that but the internet worked great. We stayed in the first day and enjoyed drinks and lunch at the pool where the service was slow, but great. There was plenty of shade and sun.
There were a few downsides that spoiled our stay. For example , was “ fitness center”. The elliptical machine was not only inop, it was in shambles. The screen had fallen off and screws were in the cup holder and it had no electricity with the wiring sticking out of the bottom. The floor in the room was filthy. The free weights and bench were in working order but a cardio option would have been desired. The spa was about $20 more than the local
Massage spot 15 min away so we didn’t use it and the little pool there was pretty sketchy.
The biggest disappointment was the restaurant! We are used to traveling on “island time”, but the food and service was beyond slow. (Besides the lunch service ) Our last night, we were worn out from an all-day excursion and sat down for dinner. After waiting almost an hour after we ordered (which took 20
Min to even get anyone to pay attention ) and having glass of wine, we got up
And left. Thankfully we had some snacks in our room. The staff was very nice and obviously something had gone amiss. But we were one of 3 couples that walked off.
Also the entire time we were at the hotel, we had no hot water. One day the water was lukewarm but mostly cold. I love
A cold shower but my husband found it intolerable. The sink also had a very slow drain.
Our room was so quiet and comfortable but the experience with the shower, the restaurant, and the fitness center altered our recommendation. In hindsight, I would have stayed somewhere with a reliable restaurant and a true fitness center and hot water.

We had a fantastic stay at Patio Azul! The sunset is gorgeous from our hotel room, we had a private deck/patio for tanning. We even saw firework at night from our room patio. The staff were all super friendly - particular thanks to Jorge who gave us recs for Mexico City!! We usually walk to Zona Romantica and get an uber back (around 40-60 pesos), the hotel sunset views are worth the little distance. The walk down is pleasant too. Highly recommend for a relaxing stay, bohemian chic designed rooms are soooo relaxing to nap/chill in. Loved our week of stay here! It's also convenient to cab to the south side :)

We had a terrific week in PV staying at Patio Azul. It’s set back about 5-7 minutes from the south side of town and it’s really quiet and relaxing. I have to give a huge shout out to Eduardo and Jorge who ran the restaurant and bar near the pool. They both went above and beyond in service and made the experience 5 star. Jorge brought his personal Bose speaker to the pool each day and allowed my party to use it. Eduardo is such a hard worker and remembered every detail of what we ordered each day. We loved the rooms we all stayed in, had a great view of the ocean and mountains. Room service was very friendly. I loved that his hotel has WhatsApp Business as it made it so easy to pre-arrange taxis or ask simple questions without having to go to the front desk. Highly recommend this hotel for your relaxing experience in PV!

I absolutely loved this boutique hotel - it’s very quiet and has an area to relax on the three patio/levels, each with small pools/jacuzzis and lounge chairs. Accommodating, friendly service, especially Eduardo who was super nice, very attentive and made a variety of delicious drinks. Carlos was our amazing server in the morning and the housekeeping woman was so sweet and friendly. They all really made an effort to be kind and attentive. Our room couldn’t have been nicer - beautiful decor, clean and spacious. Food was good but also just a short cab ride into town (Romantica Zone/“old town”) for more a more lively atmosphere and tons of restaurants, shopping and beach.

I had a little trouble trying to reach the property a week or so before my stay - I had questions but couldn’t reach by phone until the day before my travel which was odd and emails were not answered. Once I arrived I was able to communicate via WhatsApp which was super helpful for restaurant ideas, Spa questions (had a great massage there too!).

I was there for 5 days, part solo part family. Other guests were very friendly. Would definitely stay again if ever traveling to PVR again.

I stayed here for 3 days. The lobby is nicely appointed, and the rooms are awesome. Check in and out is simple. The "restaurant" area is used for eating as well as the hang out area because the poo/bar area is small. Now for the issues. There were no wash clothes in the bathroom of the room. Th TV allows a guest to use Netflix, Hulu or the like. There was no access to tv such as CNN. The restaurant often does not have simple things like sugar, pasta or rice. It often does not have major ingredients like shrimp and there is a very limited menu. More significant, there is one employee Eduardo (who is good but plays favorites with guest) who is the server, busser, pool boy, towel guy and bar tender. Service is glacially slow at best. The upside is the area is well kept. since everyone basically has to hang out there, they need electric sockets in more convenient areas. Finally, because of the size most guests are friendly.

I had booked a stay at this hotel as a surprise for my friend's birthday, and I had been in contact with the hotel via Whatsapp beforehand to arrange a special dinner and spa treatments.

On the day of check-in, I received a message via Booking.com at 17:55 stating that my room would be available from 18:00 onwards if I did not arrive by then. I responded at 19:00 to inform them that we were on our way, and we arrived at the accommodation around 20:30.

To my dismay, upon check-in, I was informed that my room had been sold to other guests and that the hotel was fully booked. Despite two phone calls with the extremely unfriendly manager, I was not offered an alternative room or any form of compensation. Instead, the manager referred me to their policies and did not offer an apology.

The level of service and the way guests were treated at this hotel were unacceptable. Subsequently, I received an email stating that I had not shown up and that I would be charged extra costs.

Overall, my experience with Hotel Luxury Patio Azul was extremely disappointing. The service provided was abysmal, and I would caution others to be wary of booking with this establishment.
