It is difficult to even express how much I enjoyed my stay at Garlands, Del Rio. From the moment we arrived to waving goodbye every single thing was absolutely perfect. We were greeted by a fabulous staff person who checked us in and provided us with freshly made guacamole and chips, and a margarita that was exactly what we needed after a long day of travel. Our rooms were absolutely gorgeous. I stayed in the room called Gretel. I enjoyed the comfort and softness of the bed and the beautiful sheets, the wonderful shower, the little deck overlooking the river, and how efficiently the air-conditioning and fan cooled off my room. One day it was close to 40° with the humidity factor so that air-conditioning was greatly appreciated. my room was cleaned every day after I left for the day and I always came back to a freshly made bed, fresh towels and freshly refilled water bottle. I’m a coffee drinker. The day does not start without it! I would pull myself together just enough to go downstairs and stand by the kitchen door. The ladies making breakfast near me after the first day and provided me with a hot cup of coffee with just the right amount of cream in it. After after coffee, it was time for breakfast. Dining tables are located by the beautiful little pool and also along the river. Our breakfast came with our room and each day we chose from the options on the menu. A stand out for me was the Chilaquiles. Quite delicious! All of the staff at this little hotel were absolutely wonderful. They are friendly and efficient and actually seem to care about us as people. Martha runs the place it seems and she does it beautifully. Always a smile always a greeting always how was your day? Can I do anything for you? The decor of this hotel is whimsical and colorful. There are seating areas and a communal kitchen which can be used. There is a dining area, and if one chose to they could cook their own meals. I highly recommend this property for atmosphere. If you are lucky enough to stay here, please say hello to Amelia for me. She’s the kitty cat of the property and she’s lovely.

Cute and quaint hotel in the heart of the Zona Romantica. The service especially by Ivan was great. We stayed two nights in two rooms and even got a complementary upgrade to a deluxe room (which are way more spacious than the smaller rooms on the lower floors). The breakfast was delicious. This place has an old school mom & pop B&B vibe, which I loved. Its super centrally located to the Malacion and the Muertos beach. It was also very peaceful and quiet despite being in the heart of all the action.

This property has incredible old-world Mexican charm, with colorful walls, antique furnishings, and artwork that tells a story. The communal vibe is warm and welcoming, encouraging guests to mingle over breakfast or in the common areas.
The location is peaceful, just outside the main tourist areas — but being by the (currently dry) river means lots of bugs at dawn and dusk.
Rooms have character, but comfort is inconsistent. Some sheets are stained, furniture is worn out, and the common spaces feel neglected with saggy sofas. The communal kitchen is a nice idea, but it’s missing basics like a wine opener or proper cookware.
Breakfast is hit-or-miss — great coffee, but food feels tired and uninspired. The WiFi is nearly unusable, which makes planning your day difficult.
Staff are friendly, but communication can be a challenge, and requests often go unanswered. To top it off, unexpected “upgrade” fees at checkout leave a bad taste.
That said, the bones of this place are beautiful. With some care and attention, it could be truly magical. As it stands, it’s best for travelers who value charm and history over modern comforts — and are willing to roll with the quirks.

Truly one of the most special places I have stayed. This was my second trip to PV- this time with my daughter. The staff is warm and gracious. From the concierge to the waitstaff, everyone made us feel welcome, and tolerated our attempts at Spanish. The hotel itself is unique- Mexican maximalist decor, saturated colors, twists and turns and stairways leading to another patio. The pool area is so relaxing. Our room faced the river, and each night we were serenaded by jazz music from the restaurant across the river. Just a wonderful stay. A special shout out to Ivan for helping us book the whale watching tour, it was a perfect ending to a perfect trip. Gracias garlands del Rio!

We were blown away by this charming boutique hotel. We didn’t want to be down by the beach where it’s crowded and expensive. This was in a wonderful neighborhood right next to the river, across from one of the biggest markets. We had two different rooms, one on the first floor and one on the top floor. Our room on the top floor overlooked the tree tops, when we opened up the window inside our huge shower, we could see an iguana hanging out in the tree top. It was my birthday and they decorated the room with balloons. It was so sweet. The bed was amazing. I never wanted to leave it. Included in the price is a lovely breakfast served on the patio overlooking the river. Everyone who works there was outstanding and so helpful. The pool was lovely, they had an honor bar we used. It was like walking back in time. I cannot wait to go back.

This place is GORGEOUS! Location is central and within walking distance to many cool spots like beaches, restaurants, markets, shops, etc. Moreover, the customer service is ELITE. Martha, Ivan, Ninfa, Arturo, José Luis, and all of the kitchen and room staff were incredibly attentive. I brought my small dog and they were VERY pet friendly. He was very spoiled during our stay and so was I. I stayed in the “Duke” suite and I highly recommend it. From all of the trips I’ve taken and all of the places I’ve stayed at, Garlands del Rio ranks at one of the very top because of their customer service. Thank you!

This boutique hotel is located a short distance from the beach and is very close to restaurants, shopping, and clubs. It is very walkable, even for those who are not young. I do have to say if you have issues with steps this may not be the right hotel for you. We had a lovely week and I dare say the staff was like family by the time we left. There were eight in our group, seven adults and an 8-year-old, and we had lovely breakfasts on the veranda each morning and they were very accommodating to our group. We occupied 4 rooms, and each was very different and very lovely. The facility is very clean with water stations all over so you can fill your water bottles anytime. We always felt safe as this is in a safe area and the front gate requires a key. I must give a shout out to Marta and Jerry as we spent more time with them, and they were such lovely people. We will definitely go back for another visit and I encourage you to try this very enchanting hotel, especially if a boring high rise hotel is not what you are looking for!

Great location. The area feels "local" as opposed to touristy. It is safe. You are not on the beach yet it is just a 10 -12 minute walk. Very helpful staff. Lovely pool area with bar. Internet was pretty good. If you want to bring in your own food there is a common fridge as well as a small fridge in the room. The air conditioning in the room was great. My only negative: I was in the "penthouse" suite which was a large room overlooking the pool. The walls are all painted black and dark red. Even the curtains are black. Now maybe it is supposed to look opulent (or something) but it really does not work. Feels more like a classy goth dungeon :-). I would rethink the paint and go with something much lighter and brighter. I would definitely stay in this hotel again!

This will be my 2nd time at this hidden gem. Garlands Del Rio definitely always gives me a amazing experience that will forever have me coming back. The booking process is very easy and if you book directly through the site they sometimes offer the deal of free breakfast daily. The hospitality is really awesome, everyone we encountered were super sweet and were there to make our experience the best. This hotel is very unique offering beautiful European themed rooms that gives everyone staying their own personal experience; the location is in the zona romantica which allows you to be in the center of many restaurants, coffee shops, souvenirs, beach, and much more. I would 100 percent recommend to anyone visiting this great city! I felt very safe and secure.

Thank you for contacting us, Our pool in Garlands is temporarily out of service, this will only be for a month, however you are welcome to use the pool at our sister hotel Rivera del Rio, which is only 5 minutes walking from Garlands.
