Amazing place to stay, great easy going atmosphere! Owners and staff went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and looked after us like we were family. We were even able to leave our luggage and hang out until our night bus the next day, even allowing our friend to hang with us there even though she hadn't...

I arrived at Iguana last August and was instantly at home; the staff were great, the dorms were cheap and the location was very close to the center. After staying for 4 nights, I ended up loving it so much I stayed an extra three weeks, working as a volunteer. The vibe is very social, and the common areas provide space...

If what you like in a hostel is having your space to live and be around people from all over the world Iguana provides. With full use of the kitchen, a massive market nearby, BBQ's and places to chill you can get to know San Cristobal at your own pace. which in my case was ages...

A great hostel located in the center of San Cristobal de las Casas. The hostel is within reach of everything: there is a market around the corner where you can get cheap groceries and tacos, the main shopping area is within a stone throw and the bars are also close. The staff exists out of other backpackers who are really...

this hostel has great potential , it is in a good position in town but the staff who are travellers themselves do not look after this place as well as they could. It has a small garden which could be lovely but is not looked all , the aim of it seems to be to have a bonfire each night....

Fair deal, very cheap option to sleep in San Cristobal de las Casas. Close to the Convento de Santo Domingo, convenient if you want to be nearby to most of the amenities in town. We stayed in a dorm, though they gave us a double bed and the other bed was empty, so it felt like we were in a...

We stayed in a dorm which was dirty and our sheets smelled and we even suspected they hadn't been washed. Awful lighting everywhere which was depressing.Certain staff members were friendly but utterly clueless in terms of transportation arrangements and even offering simple directions around San Cristobal. Only two toilets for the entire hostel which are cramped and dirty. When we...

It's my 4th time in this hostel, after travelling in other hostels in Europe and Mexico. I strongly recommend to enjoy this one! The staff are travellers and that means that they know how to keep the travel awesome, the breakfast is unbelievable good, good portions, healthy and complete... I'm always expecting to stay longer!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Four years since opening, IGUANA HOSTEL is well known among backpackers for its family, chilled out and fun atmosphere. People come to the Iguana for two nights and they stay for two weeks... This is because Iguana Hostel can host only up to 27 people, so it's easy to make friends to share fun with, and we will always take good care of you. Our main asset is our staff: travellers on the road, who love making friends, and speak your language. The IGUANA HOSTEL is situated in a historic Barrio del Cerrillo, with a panoramic view from the terrace. The hostel is located near Santo Domingo a church surrounded and a colourful handcraft market, 2 blocks from the public market and only 7 minutes walk from the very heart of the city: la Catedral and el Parque Central. ... more   less
