We stayed at the Solymar Beach and Resort for one night before driving around the entire Yucatan Peninsula for 13 days. Of all the places we stayed-and some were quite humble-this was the only one I must give a negative review. I can't say much negative about the service I guess. No one was rude but given the condition of...

The room we got wasn't that great but it seems like there were better and bigger rooms they have available, I'm assuming for a higher rate. Ours didn't have a small fridge or drawers. We had to constantly ask for toilet paper since there were only one roll in the room at a time. Our beds and pillows uncomfortable, there...

This was our last stop before returning home so we were really looking forward to relaxing and enjoying ourselves. Positives - the reception staff and bell boy were friendly, enthusiastic even. The air con worked brilliantly in our room! It was ice cold in there of we wanted. Breakfast - where you can order an omelette or quesadilla cooked to...

I really wanted to like this place, but it was simply lacking. I wikl, however, start with the positives. The staff are friendly, the rooms and pool are very clean and it is a safe place for families. The beach is beautiful and clean. Now, the negatives. It is old and in great need of maintenance. The rooms are huge,...

American travelers will only find disappointment at Solymar. The resort primarily caters to middle class Mexican families, and the presence of Americans, though we were not the only ones, annoyed the staff, who at many times just outright ignored us, hoping we'd go away. The $30/day All-Inclusive package gets you three meals, whose quality I'd put below my college dinning...

Prior to my rant...I will say thank you to the manager for upgrading our room from a standard Lagoon view to a suite. If you are on a budget, this is the nice place for that! Now onto my rant.... Well, the title says it all! Not only once but twice even after advising the front desk of the first...

What a shame it is how the Mexicans managing this place want to ruin the tourists' experience at the beach! What a beautiful beach there is to enjoy at Solymar...the sign posted says it is a public beach and that you swim at your own risk...so what the hell is the deal with the lifeguard??? They only let you swim...

The place caters to middle class Mexican families and this is evident from the low standards of food, room decor, cleanliness and state of repair. If you are one of the few unlucky western guests, the staff (unhelpful and not able to speak English) will be so pushy for tips that you'll feel like you are dealing with street beggars....

My Fiance and I were going to check in to the Grand Oasis Sens the day after our trip so figured we would stay next door at the Hotel Solymar. The first impression was extremely GLOOMY, DARK, and MOLDY. The white sofas in the main waiting area had stains on it, it did not give a welcoming impression at all....

When we arrived, everything was ready for us and because we were celebrating a 21st and 50th birthday, we were treated like royalty, literally. Amazing views, cool pool even though it was mid summer, friendly staff and lots little holes in the walls (or ditches) within walking distance with local prices.
