Last minute vacation booked with almost no research and no expectations. We were pleasantly surprised at every turn. Upgrade to Level was nice - room was very well appointed, Ocean front with a massive Jacuzzi, and a welcome bottle of wine. Other perks included the Level lounge to grab extra drinks for the room (but sadly not really a place to lounge as it doubles as the concierge staff office), and a premium Level restaurant on the beach. Food was stellar -seriously not one bad meal. The Level restaurant on the beach served a set menu of Indian inspired dishes that was one of the freshest and best meals I’ve ever had, with artisanal cocktails including non-alcohol drinks that were amazing! Staff are fantastic. Amenities are varied - tennis and pickle ball court, archery and batting cage, obstacle course for kids, volleyball and horseshoes on the beach. I know there were non-motorized sports but we did not use. The spa looked really nice and couples massages were about $75 pp I think. We used the gym everyday - clean and in good condition with all kinds of equipment. The beach is lovely - low seaweed while we were there and most days were totally clear. There is actually a long Sandy beach great for evening walks and photos. The snorkeling is great in front of the resort - check out the far end where you will find some massive conch beds. But do go next door to El Coz for the deep blue and clear water full of fish. We are beach people so only swam in the adults only pool a few times but everyone seemed to enjoy the swim up bar. Ample chairs and Bali beds everywhere meant no fighting for a spot in the morning. The lobby lounge was a favourite spot - premium liquor only needs to be asked for and the house wine was very good and I didn’t feel the need to order wine at an additional charge to complement a meal. Bring bug spray and after-bite for the evening. If you want to get off resort you can arrange tours in the lobby and there are great restaurants down the road only a 10ish minute walk. The Lobster House (there are 2 - go to the one closer to town) is fun!

Dear Wpgwanderer, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the upgrade to The Level. It's also great to know that our well-appointed rooms, oceanfront views, and the welcome bottle of wine added to your satisfaction. Thank you for your kind words about our lobby lounge and the premium liquor options available. We appreciate your advice on bringing bug spray and after-bite for the evenings, as well as your recommendations for off-resort activities and restaurants. We look forward to seeing you again. Best wishes, Guest Service Cener Management

We have been visiting the Melia for many years and have always enjoyed their friendship and beauty. We noticed several new updates that we liked. The resort has taken a "eco-friendly" position by serving liquids in recycleable cups and eliminating plastic bottles with glass bottles. They have also started using cigarette butt receptacles on the beach. They look like a 7 foot filtered cigarette sticking up vertically in the sand. It appeared that most of the smokers did use this new addition. The resort has also updated and improved the Wi-Fi system that worked well throughout the resort area. Another usefull addition was the addition of at least 3 dual USB ports in the rooms for your recharging of your electronics.

The food was also very good in all of the restaurants as well as the buffet. There were themed meals served in the buffet area as well as the outside dinning areas at night. The Parasio was outstanding as usual with its service, staff and menu. The resort does post their dress code on the TV and we are glad to say that the diners complied with the rules. The buffet has a breakfast line as well as a chef that will prepare eggs to your liking. There is a Mexican breakfast section that will also prepare some specialty breakfast items for you.

When we arrived the room was ready for us to move into for our weeks stay. It was very clean and fresh. The refrigerator was stocked with water, beer and sodas. The bathroom/shower area was spotless and well supplied with towels, soaps, dental kits and shampoos. The bathroom also has a hair dryer as well as a lighter mirror.

Everything that The Melia could controll was done in a first class manner. When the weather was windy outside they helped entertain the guests by supplying some board games in the lobby
The sigh of a good company is how long the employees remain with them and we have seen Freddy, Alfredo, Adrian, Lupe,William, Alberto and Ignazio have all been there for years are are great representitives of Melia and of themselves. Always so attentive and professional. I don't know the names of the Melia employees who were the working the stage for the Michael Jackson Show, but when one customer was "acting up and out of line" they quickly and quietly took conntroll.

We stayed with our RCI membership and want to extend toTania a thank you for having all the paperwork ready for an easy move in and Cesar and Sandra a heartfelt THANK YOU. You make us feel like family. There are none better. Two new members that really made our stay seem so special were Gabriel and Abril. They are a great addition to the team.

Most resorts have beautiful grounds and builds and Melia is on that list. It is the people that represent Melia that make it so special.

A group of 7 ladies stayed for 7 days. We upgraded to ocean view rooms, mini bars were stocked daily, and they had great views on balconies. Worth the extra money! People complained about the air conditioning unit being loud, I enjoyed the white noise.

Beach was never crowded and chairs were always available. Seaweed came ashore a few days but they took care of it right away. My only complaint, no beach service!

Food was great. We had five square meals a day. Restaurants choices were good, have the tomato soup at the Italian restaurant and thank me later. The buffet had theme nights and it was always delicious. If you go hungry, you must be a picky eater.

Service was always spot on. Entertainment crew at night was fun, waiters, bartenders, they all work to make your stay enjoyable. We may even bring the husbands next time :)

The view from the hotel is awesome. Crystal clear water, white sand, and a view of Playa Del Carmen in the distance.

That’s the best part of the so called “resort.”

I struggle with where to begin. All of the people who work at the resort are really nice and make you feel at home. However, the amenities suck.
They sold me on moving to the “royal suite.” Nothing about the room was a suite. They don’t even have a dresser with drawers to put your clothes in. They seriously expect you to live out of a suitcase for your weekly stay.

The minibar in the room in a miniature fridge that holds 6 cans and 4 bottles of water. They claim you can customize what you want in it, but after multiple attempts, we were given the same sampling everyday that we didn’t want to drink — other than the coveted bottles of water.

Maids come knocking on your door at 9am every single day to make up the rooms — so much for being able to sleep in on your vacation. The royal suites are conveniently located next to the kids pool, so you hear constant screaming all day long.

Now the food. They claim to have 3 a la carte restaurants and the buffet. They really only have one a la carte restaurant — the international restaurant. The food was pretty good I have to say. That’s the only good food in the resort.

The Mexican a la carte restaurant is their snack bar that you can get lunch at turned into a “restaurant” for dinner. The food is lousy. Go into town if you want Mexican food.

And the Italian “restaurant” — their last a la carte option. It’s not even conceivable how this can be called a restaurant. It’s literally 5 tables sectioned off from the main buffet. Chef Boyardee makes better Italian food.

Here’s my final thought: if you are looking for a relaxing and cheap getaway and don’t care about the food or amenities, and you just want a white sand beach with crystal clear water, then this is the place for you.

The lobby is screaming for a renovation, old, wornoufurniture and a bar from the last century. Yukk!
Our Royal Suite was neither Royal nor a Suite. No drawers to put your stuff, 3 shelves occupied by the coffee maker and an ice bucket. The TV in front of the bed cannot be pointed anywhere else. Many TV channels for kids, very few in English and they make an awful humming noise so you don´t want to see those. Bathroom with a tutti frutty of fixtures, polished chrome, vintage brass and brushed nickel. Looks like they got them at a garage sale! Bathroom very small. Sofa is a chaiselounge, very uncomfortable foam stuffing. No bedside lamps! Awful illumination for a bedroom.
The food is mostly OK. Nothing great. Italian Specialty restaurant only serves Pizza and Pasta. Red wine served chilled, unless you ask for room temperature red wine. Cafe Paradise is quiete nice, but the soup was served lukewarm and the red wine chilled.
Unless they make some serious changes, I would not go back. I loved the beach, though.
The beach is wonderful, the best I have seen in Cozumel. Kept clean . The hotel is clean. Staff very friendly and helpful.

We spent a wonderful week at Melia. We went Feb 2 to Feb 8, 2020. We had a garden view room (#439) on the 4th floor and had a beautiful view of the ocean from our room and balcony. The room was immaculately clean and our king size bed was so comfortable! The resort itself and grounds are so clean and comfortable. We never had to worry about "saving " beach or pool chairs. The beach is very large and the lounge chairs, hammocks, and cabanas are spread out nicely along the spacious beach and pools. You are not crammed together with bunch of people and you actually feel like you have your own private beach. The sand is white and so soft . Once you are in the ocean you will experience the same soft sand with no weeds or rocky bottom. There are plenty of activities and entertainment going on throughout the resort day and night. There is something for everyone. We enjoyed the full variety of food, drinks, and restaurants. They were unique and tasty. All the staff throughout the resort are super friendly and go above and beyond to be accommodating. I wish I could remember all the employees names as they were all outstanding. Enrique and Augusto were wonderful bartenders at the pool and lounge bar. Thank you both for such a good time. Patricia was amazing at cooking my eggs to order at the morning breakfast buffet! I still can't remember the name of the delicious mushrooms I always put in my omelet even though she would tell me every morning. I would also like to mention young Josmar who is training at the restaurant and the pool bar. He is very polite, friendly, and has great personality. He is a very enthusiastic young man, always smiling and helpful.

I often feel line trip advisor needs another rating between average and very good, so I’m torn on this review.

There’s nothing we didn’t like about this resort. Great location with a beautiful, large beach. Some resorts in this area have cramped beaches and rocky area. The Melia beach is smooth and powdery.

Plenty of chairs and shade. The food was good. Drinks were plentiful. Staff was fantastic- helpful and friendly.

The room was average. There’s nothing special about it , but it’s comfortable. We had a garden view room on the 4th floor and still had a great ocean view. They stock your fridge with beverages and water every day , which you don’t often see at this price point.

Pools were nice. Swim up bar was great.

If I had one tiny complaint it would be that the lunch offering is a little sparse. I would love to see them add pizza to the outdoor dining area so you can grab a slice on the god throughout the day. But you still won’t go away hungry.

The spa is nice. We got massages and we’re very happy with the service.

There are enough activities here to make the family happy,

This is about 10 minutes from the airport. Book a private transfer when you arrive in Cozumel. It’s only $15. It’ll cost you a lot more if you book shared transfers in advance.

Overall it’s a great deal for the money.

Wonderful staff! Francisco the manager in the restaurant went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met, he took the time to visit all the tables and check on the service and food.

The beach bartender was also great! The waiters and housekeeping were super courteous. Christian at the pool was always up for a good time and trying to get the guests to join in on great entertainment.
Food was good! They serve you at the buffet so the guests don’t have to touch any of the serving utensils. Masks are required of course in the restaurant. Beach was wonderful to walk on, some days there was lots of seaweed on the beach but there were always workers cleaning and shoveling the seaweed away. The last day we were there, the beach was pristine with no seaweed!
Rooms are great! No elevators though, but rooms are not too far from the lobby or the beach/restaurant. Bathrooms/showers are good, no complaints!

Also the ocean view room is totally worth it, beach is right outside your window.

We stayed at the Melia All Inclusive and Golf for two weeks at the end of January 2021. Because of Covid, our expectations were not high. We were happy to see that a lot of measures were in place to protect clients and staff from Covid. Even though the variety of food was limited, it was very tasty and some nights were way above expectations. The pizza was baked in a brick pizza oven and was amazing and so was the Mexican tortilla soup and the guacamole. Thanks you to Francisco, the kitchen manager, for the great service, generosity and kindness. All the staff were amazing, welcoming and kind, from the waiters to bartenders, to maintenance staff and sports and activities staff. A special mention to Luis, Felipe and... who were so nice and made sure we had our cocktails the way we like. Amazing bar service with great choice of quality alcohol. Another special mention to Mary, and also Cesar and Giovani, who are doing an amazing job with entertainment, activities and just being super friendly. The bathrooms had great water pressure but we’re a little small for two people to use. Also the rooms did not have dressers with extra jars to store closing so space there was quite limited. If you want an iron and ironing board and a coffee maker, you have to request it as they’re not in the rooms to start with. When other minor negative was that they really didn’t chase kids out of the adult only pool until something was said to someone. I think our only real negative experience was the guys working in the Celine shack. One guy didn’t speak any English at all and the other would ask for tips before he even gave you any service and their service could definitely use some improvement. All in all, it was a great experience at the Melia and we would definitely go back again!

This is a nice hotel on a great beach property. Compared to the other hotels nearby including the Westin the beach is much more expansive, not crowded, open lounge chairs, shade palapas available, and nice clean walk in to waist to chest deep warm water. Almost no sign of seaweed either during our vacation. The kids spent most of the time making sand castles at waters edge. The rooms are clean and comfortable too.

Now, this property in this location should be great. The problem is the food, the activities, and the overall vibe of the workers. The food is 2 star, bland oil soaked everything. They desperately need a new chef to prepare something great to equal the property. The activities are also very weak, lots of broken and run down equipment. Buy some new gear and hire some young motivated staff to share some experience. A new activity director would be a great improvement. Seems like most of the workers while pleasant generally lack the energy needed to engage the willing vacationers to do something new or interesting.

As an ex employee of a vacation resort it’s sad to see so much potential going to waste. A few minor changes would make all the difference with this place. Please breathe some life into this place!!!

Here is a pic of the sad remainder of the water sport activities. A few old kayaks, a broken down sailboat (never left the beach all week), not a single SUP, and a few old Jet Skis for hire...

Agreed. We had the water and ice along with many other drinks at the resort and never had an issue. My wife did get sick one day, but we believe it was from a low-key beach place where we had some ice and probably should not have. Outside the resort, I would definitely stick to bottled/can drinks unless you are at a restaurant that is a main location and not just a hole in the wall. Those are great places to grab a bite as long as the drinks are bottled and the food is cooked well. As the other person stated, at the resort they provide bottled water for brushing your teeth and bottled water for coffee in your room. They keep things really clean. We loved it.

In general, the Level upgrade involves some enhanced meal options and ability to book restaurant meals, upper shelf liquors, good rooms, reserved beach huts, etc. If you go on the website for Melia directly they list all the differences. I recommend it if it fits your budget. Good luck.
