Our first trip to Isla consisted of 10 days here. Our traveling companions, who are "Isla-holics" liked to stay away from town, so they picked this place. It was their first time here as well. We stayed in the double beach house shown in the picture. The house is quite simple, no frills, and could use some upkeep, especially in... More

The system will only let me submit a review that's a year old. My remarks are from a visit in 2006. Now that goes back some of course, but I cannot think things have changed a whole lot. From the looks of things, they haven't. The place is getting the right kind of remarks probably because they've got a good... More

My wife, 5 month old son, and I spent 10 days in the beach house at Playa Gaviota in January 2011. The house is right on a nice semi-private beach, it’s spacious, has a well equipped kitchen, and is adequately furnished with a dining room table, small sofa, chair, coffee table, a double and single bed both up in the... A group of sixteen Austin friends spent a week on Isla Mujeres from December 1st until the 8th recently. My wife and I had been to Isla 3 other times but most folks were on their first trip to this part of paradise. This was our first time staying on the south end away from downtown and we have stayed... More

I rate Playa Gaviota as "excellent", since it was excellent for us. I've read all the reviews about this place before choosing it, and I must admit I was a bit worried at what I would find. But Playa Gaviota exceeded our expectations (which granted, were low!) and we had a perfect, peaceful, and beautiful family vacation there. We were... More

My husband and I, with our 6 month old daughter, rented the beach house in Playa Gaviota. We went with little to no expectations and were happy with our vacation. After reading some of the reviews on this site, I can imagine there would be few people who would feel the way we do about Playa Gaviota. No offense to... More

We stayed twice at playa gaviota. The resort is a little tired and dated, as someone said before. The appartments near the street are big with a kitchen and a private terrasse with a nice view. The cleaning lady comes every day except on sunday. Be careful though for the street noise specially on the third floor. If you rent... More

My spouse and I are well travelled and have experienced a large variety of Carribean accomodations so we are accustomed to 'unique accommodations' so this isn't just a rant from some inexperienced traveller. We stayed there from Nov 1-12/09 while attending a friends wedding, and athough this resort was recommended by aquaintences, we were very disappointed with the accomodations, (we... More

The rooms are adequate, not really decorated but they are very clean and have air conditioning. The kitchen is well equipped. The only thing that would have been appreciated was screens on the windows and the sliding glass door to the patio - to keep bugs out and let the wonderful breezes in! The view from the patio is amazing... More

We loved our stay at Playa Gaviota...then again we're not very hard to please. We rented one of the two beach 'cottages', the one on the right which has a (or did have a) palm tree close by for some shade. The rooms were spacious (pictures attached) w/ kitchenette including mini fridge and the beach was quiet and relaxing. Water... More

“Make sure you put some Dollarama stuff in your luggage - pencils, markers, colouring books, simple toys - and then pay a visit to the Little Yellow Schoolhouse. A highlight for our kids to hand that stuff over, watch the Schoolhouse kids eyes light up, then play together for an hour. There's also a small chapel futher north and east of that - on the eastern water almost - that made Sunday very peaceful and reflective. You don't need to be a church goer to enjoy the music and devotion, but it helps to give perspective to your visit, while leaving a little extra in the collection plate if you know what I mean...”
