A true gem. One of the most perfect boutique hotels I have visited in travels across Mexico and Europe. Neil and Sara are wonderful hosts. Our room (the Colonial) was lovely and spacious with a handsome bath. Pool area is peaceful and pretty and great for a quick dip to cool down. One of those places you almost don't want to tell people about because you want to be able to get a room when you want -- but have to share because the effort that the owners put into running a perfect place deserves recognition.

Hotel's Favourite
This is one of the most beautiful small hotels I have ever visited. Gorgeous & tranquil. Lovely pool. The breakfasts were fabulous! The hosts and staff were great - friendly and mega helpful. We traveled as three couples, and it worked out well as we had three of the four rooms and so pretty much had the place to ourselves. Our group stayed for a week. And, some of us could’ve just stayed for another month. We also were fortunate to be able to book Raul for three different days of excursions. He was a marvelous guide. I can’t say enough about the Diplomat. I WILL return! Beth McGown

This was our third visit at The Diplomat and the experience continues to rival that of the world’s finest hotels. The staff continues to execute flawlessly and the owners are redefining hospitality. Highly recommend travelers to Merida begin their stay here if for no other reason than the included breakfast delights with its creativity and execution.

We spent 5 nights at this FABULOUS boutique hotel. There are many reasons why this is the best place to stay in Merida & why it is rated #1..... Yes, the food is wonderful, the suites larger than most & beautifully decorated, the swimming pool refreshing & divine. But, the other feature that stands out is the "Service" provided by the owners Sara & Neil & their staff. They are hands on, always knowing the right choices to guide you to have a smooth journey. They did that for us everyday. We spent a month in Mexico, most of the time in the Yucatan. One of the highlights for us was staying at The Diplomat....Thank you Sara!

This hotel is an absolute gem that far exceeded our expectations. The truly warm and personalized service was incredible, making us feel like cherished guests. A special shoutout to Sara and Neil for making our stay so special. Their, along with their staff's, attention to detail and genuine warmth left a lasting impression. Breakfast everyday was incredible, and not only delicious - the meals were gorgeous! The hotel's central location allowed easy exploration of Merida's cultural wonders, making it an ideal choice for travelers seeking both comfort and convenience. Our stay at was an experience we'll treasure forever, and we cannot recommend it enough!

Thanks to Neil, Sara and their wonderful team for making our stay in Merida such a memorable one. Neil and Sara were outstanding hosts. Their well-informed insight and suggestions on where to tour and dine in the area greatly enriched our experience. Even while away from the hotel they responded to our many questions. They arranged for a full day tour that included a visit to Uxmal and a swim at a local cenote. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated. Our rooms and the grounds were comfortable and very spacious. Breakfast was a treat to look forward to both for the delicious food and interesting conversation. The hotel itself is about a 20 minute walk (all safe) from the center of town.

Recently spent a week in Merida and all at the Diplomat Hotel. What a treat!. We were 3 couples and had the hotel mostly to ourselves. Sarah and Neil, the owners could not have been more helpful. They arranged for Raul to be our guide and driver for most of the time and his expertise really enhanced our experience. His knowledge about the food scene in town was another added benefit. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, beds super comfortable, bath products wonderful and breakfasts a gourmet delight and healthy. The pool area is so relaxing. A bit of a walk to the center of town but ubers are very inexpensive and come quickly. A truly wonderful experience.

Outstanding in every respect. Amenities, luxury, good location, support of local artists and artisans ... what a gem of a boutique hotel! We loved meeting Neil and Sara and shared stories and a few laughs. While you're there, ask Neil about his relationship to the legendary band "Rush" from Canada - this alone is worth your stay. The breakfast was delicious (with homemade bagels!) and the cocktails (in the coolest shaker on the planet) refreshing. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Pool, atmosphere, vibe, relaxation, and staff were all perfect. Your trip to Merida will benefit from staying here!

My wife and I and two other couples spent a week at the Diplomat two weeks ago and we all loved it. Sarah and Neil are terrific hosts and the staff is superb in all respects. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean as are the public areas and the pool is wonderful. We were given great tips on what to visit and restaurants and Sarah hooked us up with Raoul who provided driving and guiding to sites including Uxmal. Raoul is superb and made the trip special. Special shoutouts to Maria, the assistant manager and Carla, who prepared the most awesome breakfasts each morning with fresh fruit and Yucatán specialties. And to all members of the staff as well. I can’t say enough about the Diplomat. By the end of the week we all felt like family at this very special place.
