The Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya garners praise for its wealth of amenities, such as diverse dining choices and pristine beaches, although it's not without occasional maintenance and overcrowding issues. Guests enjoy the spacious, well-furnished rooms with stunning views, but some have noted minor upkeep problems. While the staff's attentiveness is celebrated by many, others have encountered slow service.
The resort's cleanliness and beautiful design contribute to a pleasant atmosphere, but noise levels and event disturbances have been a concern. Its scenic yet secluded location is a double-edged sword, offering tranquility alongside occasional inconvenience. Lastly, the cost of food and beverages sometimes surpasses guests' expectations for value.

There's a lot to like but there are a few annoying things you should be aware of. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
Positives: - The resort complex is in a large gated jungle area that includes four 5-star resorts (Andaz is one of them). There is an amazing powdery white sand beach that is cleaned daily to remove seaweed (which is a big problem in the Mayan Riviera). - The staff is overall very friendly and helpful. A few can look like you are bothering them if you request anything but most are really friendly. - The rooms are clean and spacious. - The breakfast is very good with a made to order quesadilla station. - The bikes everywhere is a nice touch and we liked biking to different areas of the resort (it's a huge area).
Negatives: - The main resort area is a mile from the beach. There is a beach area you can stay in (fewer rooms) and there are restaurants, a pool and beach loungers but you have to take a buggy or bike the mile. The bikes I like a lot and there are usually bikes available everywhere (but not always). The golf carts are unreliable when you call them. More than a couple of times, it took so long for one to arrive that we simply walked or biked and were late once to a reservation. The bikes are nice but at night, it's not safe to ride so you are reliant on the unreliable buggy service. We stayed in the beach area but each morning, we had to bike or buggy to breakfast and back. We went out for dinner and same routine. They have to find a more reliable buggy service process. This is by far the most frustrating thing we faced. - There are way too few beach loungers so unless you get to the chairs to put your stuff on them to reserve it before 9am, forget about getting a space on the beach. This is frustrating and ridiculous. They is a deal-breaker for most people coming to a beach resort so they have to find a better solution. - The food is decent but outrageously priced e.g. $14 for a small order of french fries in the casual tacos restaurant. I even asked them if they made a mistake on the bill. We ate outside the resort almost every night because the restaurants in town are significantly cheaper and the quality of the food was excellent (but it requires a 15-20 drive each way). The service in the restaurants was subpar mainly it seems due to understaffing. If you order anything or ask for a coffee/milk/fork/etc, it takes a long time to arrive and many times, they forget so you have to remind them. If you want the bill, be prepare to ask 2-3 times over 20+ mins.

Iâm over the moon in LOVE. My kids are world travelers and although 8&9 they understand the quality and process. They too had a fantastic experience. From the pick up at airport to the unbelievable experience of relaxation when we came into the resort. We were welcomed by a lovely staff who showed a lot of love with helping us with bags, giving us towels and a nice popsicle. We were met by Dennise and Valeria. I must say that their level of professionalism, kindness, positivity, and tenacity is astounding. I feel that Dennise has a genuine affect and openness that feels nice to me as a guests. It felt like home and I appreciate it. Then Valeria too has a strong sense of people and offer a direct explanation that is educational when asked questions about how to get around and what to do. She gave solid advice and I feel she is honest! I could not believe how she helped saved and navigate our week. I was going to do ânothingâ but with her encouragement and guidance I was able to reunite my love for golf!!!! She helped me with that MUST DO Muyan Jungle Experience and the dinners were A PERFECT fit! I loved the HAAB- all their hard work and effort to teach the truth about the culture and strong impact with influence on the Mexican traditions and heritage! AMEN as more should spend time to educate themselves and while having fun. Meeting Phillippe at the Golf School is also w/o words. I did a review on travel advisor. He is an excellent instructor and has patience to teach and also passion to share his knowledge! He worked with me and my kids; stellar! The staff there as well in golf store were so kind to help me and the nice lady who handed me my coffee; thx! Then the staff who drove the golf carts, the staff at the pool especially Omar and all of them really were SO KIND and excellent customer service delivery. They went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. The staff in dining at the Andaz LOVES their job. Also, housekeeping keep us stocked and kept making sure we were doing ok all the time. Great job and paid attention to detail. Meeting and taking to Rafael the professional driver for your organization is the BEST person for this role. He is so insightful and so knowledgeable. I enjoyed each moment we shared stories of Mexico City.
Iâm also going to recognize the nanny services and the 3 lovely ladies Angie, Magda and ?? Name I forgot BUT the kids LOVE you. The last day of our trip they came to the front to send us off on our way! They did not have to do that but it touched our hearts so much. They kids had so much fun because they were so motivating and fun to be around. They are dynamic trio!! Keep up the great work ladies. We trusted you with the kids and you did a super job!
I feel that if you keep taking care of the staff (finically and respectfully) they will take care of each other as a community and THEY will take care of your customers!!!
I canât imagine who I might have missed by we look forward to coming back to continue traditions incl the cross cultural experiences which become part of a better world and future generations.
Thank you to all!

Andaz is a hotel within the Mayakoba Resort and that allows you to go to any of the other Mayakoba Resort hotels. We went to Andaz for six days in January and the resort was only at 45% capacity so we always got an umbrella on the beach or pool, got a free kayak / paddle board / bicycle / golf cart ride / boat ride / restaurant reservation. We had three beautiful beachfront rooms and enjoyed 2-hour bike rides around the resort each morning before breakfast. One of our rooms had a plunge pool that felt like a mild temperature hot tub. The beachfront was cleaned every morning and the beachfront staff was very attentive. Beach side service immediately brought us cold bottled water (free) and you could order food / drinks and charge it to your room. However, poolside service was non existent. We went to each pool but never received any service. We had dinner at each of the other properties and although they were all great, we felt the prices throughout Mayakoba were too expensive. In room non-alcoholic beverages were free (and they were restocked every day) , beverage prices (both alcoholic and non alcoholic) were outrageous at bars and restaurants. Transportation via Mayakoba to and from the airport was also expensive.

Overall below the standards youâd expect from an Andaz. Property is amazing, being run by staff that either doesnât care or is far understaffed.
As other reviews state the room was not available till hours after posted check-in. Staff offered no reasons or apologies. Told us to go eat at the restaurant, at 4pm, what we expected was a room at check-in time.
Towels, the never ending towel game. Pool rarely had towels, the room was never stocked with an appropriate number. When we checked in the room had 2 towels, total. 2 bath towels, nothing else. Zero attention to detail. Maid would come to the room and REMOVE clean towels.
The pool chairs and seating was all removed for 36 hours, literally zero chats at the lagoon pool. Told it was for a private event that never happened. Front desk was being very dishonest with us. Best we can tell, when rain is in the forecast they remove all the chairs. Craziest thing Iâve ever experienced at a resort.
Service was slow and inconsistent. Likely understaffed, I sympathize with the staff that was working hard, but it will be at the expense of the guest still paying full price. Drinks would arrive at the table with melted ice and food cold. The hostess at casa Amate was a special type of rude. Just say youâd better have a reservation or youâll be hunting down dinner elsewhere. Thanks to her for sending our son away hungry.
Overall, take your money elsewhere. This isnât up to typical Andaz standards. Also Donât expect this hotel to give a flip about any Hyatt loyalty.

We love the Andaz!! We stayed as a young family, December 2022 and returned December 2023 because you can't beat the combination of outstanding service, convenience with young children, beautiful surroundings, swimmable beach, excellent food and low-key vibe.
My husband and I have travelled to some gorgeous off the beaten path beaches in the Caribbean and around the world before having kids, but wanted something easier with our daughter. We stayed on the lagoon side both times and really enjoyed the change of scenery between beach during the day and juggle feel during the evening and our daughter thought the golf cart rides were really fun.
The beach at the Andaz is the best maintained in the Mayakoba complex and very clear and swimmable with kids. For both visits we left right before Christmas so it might get more crowded between Xmas and New Year's, but we never felt like the resort was too busy. Across the board, we were always impressed by the service. Our daughter has several food allergies and I was very impressed by the communication before our first trip and on site, they take food allergies very seriously (every time we entered a restaurant the host and waiter asked about allergies, and the menus are clearly labeled as well). The restaurants were so cautious and accommodating, frying our daughter's French fries separately to avoid cross-contamination etc. She is a picky eater besides the allergies and they really went above and beyond, accommodating our requests for simple foods not on the menu like steamed carrots.
The only cons I can think of: some restaurants are pricey (at least $100/adult) but Tinto del Pupo was really fairly priced and delicious for Mexican food, as well as breakfast at Cocina Milagro if you order a la carte. Some of the other resort restaurants are difficult to get into, you must reserve a month or two before your trip for a normal time (our only options were 5pm or 9pm at Saffron or Zapote). If you're at the beach during/after a storm, the water can be a bit cloudy that day but it is clear the next day.
We will be back again!

Rooms were great, the first day we checked in the pool was out of towels, the second day the pool bar restaurant was out of fruit to make any fruit beverages no strawberry, pineapple, passion fruit. The portions were small, and over priced. Book way in advances for dinner options because most restaurants were booked with no reservation options. Breakfast service was lousy, we had to pretty much wave the staff down for refills on breakfast coffee and orange juice. The quality of the food was great and I loved the option of breakfast buffet. Depending on a golf cart to constantly pick you up to bring you where you needed to go got a little frustrating. Overall the property was not what I expected- we've been traveling to Cancun Mx for over 12 years decided to try this hotel and see what the hype was about, way over hyped for what it is. Will not return sadly.

Never staying at an Andaz again--> Deeply disappointed !
We had been very impressed by our prior stay at the Andaz in Scottsdale, AZ and therefore decided to pay an exhorbitant amount for this Andaz. We have currently spent 2 nights here and have 3 more to go. Current grievances..
1) Impossible to reach to operator/concierge by dialing from the room/cellphone/whatsapp or any other method. 2) Finally when we do manage to reach someone, they have been clueless--> " ran out of blankets" when they actually didnt. Hard to make restaurant reservations among other ongoing issues 3) Our restaurant reservation (supposed to be on the beach) was changed last minute due to risk of rain, to a cheap tented area--> we were not informed of the change (and the restaurant management were shocked that we weren't !) We wouldve been charged 75 dollars pp if we didnt show up regardless. 4) I have asked the operator to have the manager call me to discuss things--> still waiting for a callback 5) Impossible to book some of their basic activities including a trip to the cenotes--as it is already fully booked. I am paying the same as other folks who are here and being able to have a trip to the cenotes as a part of the included experience. Does not seem fair. 6) Rooms are outdated--. flush is partially functioning, shower door is leaking and the room service is certainly NOT upto expected standards.
In other words--take your money to another real 5 star resort and save yourself the hassle.

Hyatt Globalist. Wanted to love this resort, but it was not a good stay. The Mayakoba is highly rated and we (2) were excited to visit. Came from the Hilton Conrad Tulum before this stay. The staff was the most disappointing part of the stay. The property is huge and you basically need golf card rides all over the property. Calling the front desk to be picked up or asking questions was not great. Half the time the service staff seemed annoyed. I always try and be as nice and pleasant to workers as possible as I've worked those jobs before too. At check in was assigned the wrong room and a replacement room took around 3 hours to get ready. We only stayed 1 night and that basically ruined our day there because we didn't have a room to call our own. Was also told to leave my backpack at the front desk during check in and that it would be brought to the room. Had to call twice to get the backpack delivered to the room. One of the tv's did not work. Food at breakfasts wasn't that great to be honest. Had lunch in the mexican restaurant by the pool/ocean and it wasn't that good either, but it was on the pricey end of things. Pool by the ocean was not amazing either. A bit small and looked like a pool that you'd get at a much less expensive hotel. The seating on the beach was odd, sort of packed in too closely like sardines. There is some seaweed on the beach, but also crushed shells and small rocks to make the sand not smooth or comfortable to walk on with bare feet. On the positive the hotel property is adjacent to others and the beach is long and walkable for what seems like miles (probably less though). Mayakoba golf course is on property and easy to view or play. Lots of raccoons onsite....lots. Seemed harmless, including for kids. I talked with my buddy who came with on the trip and the Hilton Conrad surpassed the Hyatt Mayakoba in every regard....every single aspect, which I was shocked to acknowledge and now type. This is my first disappointing Hyatt stay. I have heard Mayakoba is going to be doing renovations in Feb'25. They have a lot to improve on. I would not stay here again and can't recommend unfortunately, and considering the prices and/or points charged per night, it's a big NO.

I come to stay for 4 nights in the hotel and love every days of my stay.
The hotel is located in an exclusive luxury property complex away from playa del carmen. There is no grocery shop. Itâs very big and divided into beach area and lagoon area.
As a globalist, I was given a huge beach area one bed suite upgrade. Itâs just a few steps away from the sand. The beach is absolutely lovely. Crystal clear water and white sand. For someone place high focus on beach quality, this resort score definitely high. I saw no seeweed issues as the hotel maintain it well with various methods. The watersport( non motorized) are also free .
As itâs away from the town, the atmosphere is generally very quiet and tranquil. Itâs family friendly so has a lots of kids on the beach but they have lagoon area pool which has less kids and more quieter. The waiter will come to refresh you with ice bucket and water often. The room also come with free soft drinks in mini bar you can bring to beach and refilled daily.
The breakfast has many options with daily change on some hotfood. I tried to beach restaurant which has on beach setting, the Mexican restaurant by the pool which do good chef special. The drink here are more expensive than the hotel in town but itâs not unexpected given itâs concept and exclusive location. They do 5 to 7 pm happy hour ( cocktail half price). You canât miss this and the fine dining restaurant do special and bespoke signature cocktails and we try it everyday without a miss.
All staff are very nice . The management team are very dedicated and will occasionally come to speak to guest to make sure their experience are good and take feedback, which make the services very personal. The middle manager and supervisor are also very polite and quick to resolve things with good understanding and empathy to customers ( I had two small issues on beach and breakfast but was quickly resolved on spot without any escalation)
The hotel also has various free or paid programme. I heard the food and cocktail making class ( 25 usd per person) are good) and you do end up having some food and drinks which make whole experience worthy it. I tried the boat trip which you can see big turtle, fish and crocodile in the river which was a nice experience too. You can also see lots of different cute animals in the resort which are lovely creatures
All my globalist benefits are delivered and beyond . Thank you

We had a very relaxing family vacation (with two children ages 5 and 2) - staying a full week at the Andaz. It was a quiet week with lower occupancy during our stay, this meant restaurants were not all open or only open on select nights, but that was outweighed by the ease of access to all other amenities (chairs, reservations, shuttles, kid club, etc.).
We stayed in a room with walk out beach access, which was fantastic for "nap time" as the adults were able to enjoy peaceful beach views from the patio / private beach while the kids napped right behind us. The location also meant that we had a few noisy nights due to evening events that took place on the beach for weddings and parties - (all wrapped by 11, but pretty noisy for small kids that go to bed on the early side). That said, the proximity to beach and pool outweighed the three noisy nights.
I especially want to thank Alex Flores (our favorite shuttle driver) who connected with my son and made us feel so welcome, Alejandra (the lead breakfast chef at Cocina Milagro) who made special pancakes for our daughter several mornings to accommodate allergy needs, Izamar Soto (our "butler" who made sure we had everything we needed all week), and Omar (our poolside waiter who anticipated our schedules and made sure smoothies and lunches were served just as soon as restaurants opened; since we had small hungry kids). The restaurant staff were all diligent about food allergies (which both our children have) which I was so thankful for.
Overall, we had a great week - it was time to slow down and spend quality time together in a beautiful setting.

Not at all rocky, smooth fantastic beach, sea water is much warmer than in other places, it could be rainy but gets better closer to December. No sea weed issues as they clean it daily.

I did not have kids with me. I do not see it as a good hotel for kids. My kids would not have enjoyed it - there are so many great hotels for kids in Mexico. I'd go elsewhere and save this spot for an adult getaway.
There are more places to choose from in the Playa del Carmen area.
