We went for a five night stay in February and overall it was a big disappointment. Lots of maintenance issues and uneven service made our trip uncomfortable and not the pleasant experience we had hoped for. We had a lagoon view plunge pool suite and a standard beach area room (Two adults and one toddler in the suite, two adults in the king room). Maintenance problems: Our plunge pool was broken for most of our visit. We called many times to have someone come and repair it, but it never got addressed until our last day and I had to spend a lot of time trying to explain to various people that the pool was scalding hot, too hot to even touch the water with your hand. At times, the water drained about a third of the way down and that just made the whole thing hotter. I asked to have this fixed on three separate occasions. I'm not sure if anyone ever even showed up the first two times I called, but either way the problem remained. On our last day, they finally sent a team who was able to address the issues. But not having access to the plunge pool for most of the trip was a big disappointment. I mentioned it to guest services and at check out and they didn't seem to care. We also experienced the following maintenance issues during our stay: --Our shower had sewage smells coming from it. I alerted maintenance (again) and they said it would be fixed before the next guests arrived. --The air conditioning in the king unit was broken for a whole day during our stay. --The motorized curtains in the suite stopped working during our stay, maintenance came to fix them and that was good, but it was annoying nonetheless to have that issue while we were dealing with all the rest. --The phones in the rooms stopped working during our stay (front desk said it was a problem across the region) but in the suite they didn't come back online for several days and required, again, multiple requests to have it fixed. Other issues: We had a few others issues during our stay as well that made the experience disappointing. --First, the beach area pool is NOT heated at all so it was very very cold. I asked the staff and they said it only gets warm if there is an extended heatwave. We had mild temperatures and so no one was in the pool aside from the occasional child who would brave the cold. We were hoping to have a lot of time with our kid and their grandparents swimming in the pool, but it was so cold that no adult could get in. The lagoon pool was a warm for half of our trip, and so we used that, but then halfway through the visit it got cold as well and the only people in the pool were using the hot tub. Again, just a below-par experience. --Second, we had dinner one night at the Fairmont and we asked guest services how we could get our crew (including a toddler and seniors) there and back. They said Andaz staff would take us there in a cart (they did) and that the Fairmont staff would bring us back. Nope. We were stuck over at the Fairmont and had to go through a long process that included long walks and lots of stairs (remember, seniors and a toddler makes this challenging) until we finally got to the main Fairmont lobby where they offered us a ride after a long wait. I wish the Andaz team would have helped us arrange this better. --Third, service is friendly but very very slow. We ordered two drinks at the bar by the lagoon pool and waited 40 minutes for them to be made. I asked the bartender why the wait was so long, he said "I'm very busy" ... I looked around and gestured at the entirely empty bar and the pool area with just four people in it and asked "really?" and he just sort of shrugged and didn't say anything. This was the worst example, but generally it was really hard to get any poolside or beachfront service, I spent an hour at the beach waiting for a drink, and ultimately just left because no one ever returned after I ordered. Overall, I think the place is well designed, the rooms are nice, and the food is OK. The amenities, especially the pool areas, were a big letdown. Service was mixed, friendly for sure, but slow and not responsive. The maintenance issues also seemed excessive, especially not having the plunge pool working. I brought up all of these issues to guess services, but never received any kind of apology, any offer to switch our rooms, any explanation, or any compensation. This was my first time at an Andaz and I guess my expectations were just a little too high. I definitely will not return, lesson learned.

Hotel's Favourite
Overall, resort is amazing! Staff are very friendly; resort is clean and beautiful. Minimalist design, yet elegant and beautifully set in the jungle. A wonderful vacation at Andaz and would go back! Room: Beachfront was great location; thin walls. My husband and I stayed at the beach front room and enjoyed the convenience of walking out directly onto the beach. The room had a smart TV we used to Chromecast our phones to watch Netflix. It also had a Bluetooth speaker for us to play our music. We were pleasantly surprised that the rooms were cleaned and towels changed twice a day. Water was consistently restocked twice a day, sometimes more. Rooms are not soundproof. Sometimes we heard our neighbours and their kids, so we played music to drown the noise. There is a little bit of evidence of wear and tear, the bathroom mirror had black spots lining edge of mirror, the shower stall had some paint peeling off the floor. No major problems. Everything was in working order. Food: awesome Mexican food!! We visited all the restaurants except the Vegan Bar. Our favorite restaurant was Tinta del Pulpo. Their tacos are so good! For dinner, we recommend the tempura fish and rib eye tacos, and fried octopus tostada. For lunch, their fish burger, ceviche and nachos were also really good! We also loved the breakfast buffet at Cocina Milagro. Their serve a mix of western and mexican breakfast for those who want comfort and adventure. Their homemade hot chocolate was delightful! Cooked with spices like cinnamon, cloves, orange. At the restaurants, we were pleasantly surprised to be approached by the resort manager, assistant manager and head chefs to ask about our experience and feedback. It made us feel like they cared and I have never been approached by a head chef before! Beach: The resort was quiet when we went (mid June 2022), not busy with other vacationers, so there was always room on the beach under an umbrella, set up with beach towels. The staff at the beach immediately bring you cold bottled water (free) and you have the chance to order anything else (food/drinks) you like and they just charge it to your room. They kindly check up on you. There are staff who spent all morning and afternoon cleaning seaweed. Apparently the amount of seaweed has increased over the years and mayakoba has been trying to recycle it as fertilizer and material for goods. There was always seaweed along the border, more so after a storm. But we swam a little deeper into the ocean and it didn't bother us. This could be more of an issue for families with toddlers. Pool: Quiet with a few other small families/couples with their space. Clean, but not overly smelling of chlorine. An area blocked off for children. Activities: lagoon tour and biking! The resort, along with some others, is located in the Mayakoba area. A good portion of the resort sits in the jungle and extends to the beach. A lagoon sits in the jungle and is home to fish, crocodiles, and many birds. We got to see lots of cool wildlife including coatii, iguana, crocodile, and many birds. For this, we recommend doing the lagoon tour and biking or hiking on the paved trails to see the cenote! These items were special to the Mayakoba area, and makes it memorable. We walked the nature trail which took 1.5 hrs and it was challenging given the heat. So we recommend biking it instead. Time share pitch: non existent! We were not approached for any off resort expeditions, time shares or trinkets while on resort. Info was available at concierge for inquiry, otherwise, we were left alone for that. We saw people walking along shore with trinkets, but they were quiet and didn't seem like they were trying hard to sell. Weather: short bursts of heavy rain, lasting 10-30minutes. It rained once or twice a day, 4/6 days we were there. But there was still plenty of sun and some clouds and lots of wind. Weather is hot and humid but when we were swimming or still, we didnt notice it. It's most apparent after stepping out of our AC'd room but then we quickly got used to it. I was initially worried to book a vacation to Mexico during the stormy season and also purchased travel insurance, but I didn't have to use the insurance and I enjoyed plenty of sun! Also, when it rained, I just ran back into my room or a restaurant. It was off season and maybe that's why the resort was quiet. Dont let the June weather deter you! Gym: clean, equipped with basics and empty the one time we went. Husband loved it.

This resort is fantastic, I love the Mayakoba concept it is great to have the lagoon/forest area to relax in and then also to have the beach a buggy/bike ride away, it really helped to keep everyone excited each day. We stayed in the lagoon area which I really liked as it was less windy, is surrounded by wildlife so many birds and Iguana's, and the lagoon pool is a great spot for when it is a bit windy to be on the beach and was always quiet even during half term. Big shout out to John - Pierre he made our trip, and was always on hand to bring us a cocktail We went all inclusive and was so glad we did, we felt like we would have spent so much more money if we had paid for each meal, it soon adds up. Also the all inclusive is not restrictive at all and included almost everything on the main menus, which is often not the case. Recommend that you book your tables if you want to get the time you want, they did seem to get full. We loved using the bikes and going on the nature trail through the forest, so much fun. The whole Mayakoba resort is huge and its great that you can pop to other hotels for drinks and food, we did this a few times and the other hotels all looked amazing as well. I was worried about the beach seeing as it has the sargassum issue and the barriers and sand banks are pretty unsightly, but to be honest the barriers make it lovely and flat and there was not too much saragassum whilst we were there and what did make it to the beach was soon cleaned away. the water is a lovely colour and the sand is lovely and white and fine, I really enjoyed my time at Andaz and would highly recommend it to others

Beautiful location, very warm and helpful staff, excellent service - for ex. Golf carts are readily available for transport. One can also take bicycles around the property. The free boat ride on the lagoon is a wonderful experience.

The Kimbo (Kids Club) was incredible! The staff - Magna, Cinthia, Angie, Samantha, Gaby-took care of our kids so well! My 5 year old LOVED it here and wanted to be dropped off everyday. There is a charge for babies per hour, but totally worth it. My husband and I were able to have alone time - we had a couples massage, valentines couples dinner without hesitation if our kids were in safe hands. Overall the entire staff are so professional and attends to our needs promptly. They handle all of their guests with exceptional care!

My husband and I began our journey through the Yucatan at this resort and we were 100% satisfied. The tooms are large and well appointed, the bathrooms are spacious, there are many restaurant choices and the staff are all excellent. The resort offers plenty of activities as well, including a 4.5 km nature hike around the premises and a really lovely lagoon ride that we thoroughly enjoyed. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone visiting Playa del Carmen.

Staff are very friendly and service oriented. Kudos to Marco and Arturo at Cocina Milagros who took care of us at breakfast (included in the rate) everyday. The resort has a minimalist design and is clean and beautiful - however because of the tile floors and high ceilings the room echos and sometimes you can hear conversations from adjacent rooms. Would return.

Overrated hotel. I went in with very high expectations but Its not 5-star hotel. The food is ok, not good. alcohol beverages are terrible, watery drinks for $25. Resort is clean and beautiful. We had a good time but will not go there again. We stayed in Hyatt Ziva Cancun 6 months ago and everything was amazing.

The hotel is fantastic. The rooms are beautiful with balconies, bed is comfortable, the food is delicious and the staff is wonderful. We stayed on the laguna side and heard the birds every morning singing to us. We spent tim also on the beach which is beautiful. The water was warm and the staff brings you whatever you need. Truly this hotel is other worldly. We ate at each restaurant on the property and one was just better than the next. An incredible week.
