Relaxing. Here are the pros and cons: Pros - beachfront, quiet, in Playa del Carmen Cons - Not enough beachfront chairs (had to set an alarm every morning to claim chairs) Only 2 restaurants last olas and fuego. Not my definition of all-inclusive.

Superior EVERYTHING! That’s what has kept us coming back for 11 years. The staff feels like family. The grounds are kept immaculate which is impressive because there are trees and plants everywhere. The food is delicious. If anything is off, the staff makes it right immediately. The beach is wonderful and kept 99% seaweed free (which is amazing considering how prolific the seaweed is on other beaches). Already planning our next visit!

Loved the location near active beach, shopping but felt like secluded, tropical paradise. The room, beach, pool -fantastic. We walked the beach and loved the warm ocean swims. The staff is so helpful, fun and friendly. Yes, we got noise from adjacent beach club and beach partiers but the ocean sounds over ride that and it would be easy to pick quieter area of resort. Almost hate to share the review - we want to be sure we can always get a room!

We return year after year for one reason: the staff! Sure the resort is beautiful, has a perfect location, delicious food and comfortable accommodations, but the staff make our stay perfect. The check-in process is always a little slow, but "Front Desk Jesus" found the perfect room for us and even days later, remembered our room number and the room numbers of our other family members when we were making a dinner reservation. At the spa, "Spa Jesus" helped us schedule our appointments and later was so kind when I had a question about the bill (my mistake, not his). And Meraz performed magic when I visited the spa with a sore back and legs. He was so great that I returned for another treatment! We were at Mahekal for the Super Bowl and they made it an event, with large screen TVs, delicious food and the American TV feed so we could watch the commercials. Zuri did such a wonderful job planning the event and making sure everyone was comfortable. Alberto took such good care of us at Fuego Pool and later at the beach. He was always ready with a smile, his great laugh, and micheladas. At Olas, we got to see the bulk of our regulars. Rogelio and Manuel...we love Rogelio and Manuel. They both went above and beyond countless times during our stay. Enrique knew what we wanted before we asked and kept a smile on his face, even while he was dealing with some leg pain. Luis, Ignacio, Marcos, Carmelia and Oscar were ready with smiles every morning and evening. We only saw our friends Brian and Gilberto a few times but were happy every time we did. The new ownership has made some good improvements to the property and we look forward to seeing what else they are planning. The staff are like family to us. We love them and as long as they are there, we'll keep returning to Mahekal! Hasta proximo ano!

Beautiful resort with one big flaw - no adult only pool. There are four pools at this resort and the nicest one is called Las Olas, which has an infinity edge overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately this is the pool that the 10% of guests with young children all choose to use. So almost all lounge chairs are saved every morning with dozens of kids toys and floats and then all day the pool area is filled with jumping, running, shrieking, crying kids. So adults looking for resort tranquility have to retreat to one of the other pools which don’t have ocean views. If Las Olas pool was designated adults only, then families could use the other three pools where the lack of an ocean view wouldn’t matter as the focus is all about the kids.

So disappointed with this hotel. The reception staff was so rude and non accommodating it was almost uncomfortable making any kind of requests. For the price I paid (over $400 per night) it is not worth it at all, you should just stay at a Dreams or Hilton and pay the same. One of the restaurants was very good but also very over priced. The best thing about the hotel is the location right on a street filled with restaurants and 5th avenue about 2 blocks down.

We loved our stay at the Mahekal Resort, we had a ocean front room which was amazing, there was four of us sharing our room, room was a good size, best beds we have ever slept on while on vacation, room was cleaned daily, plunge pool always maintained, staff from wait staff, bartenders, cleaning, gardeners etc were amazing as well, we truly felt spoiled while staying here. Security staff did a really good job as well, always monitoring the beach area day and night we never felt unsecured. There were four of us in our group and we all felt the same. Our waiters and bartenders were truly amazing. We would definitely return but would choose a room away from the beach next time even though we loved our room but since the resort is on a public beach there was a lot of loud noise throughout the night on several nights but the rooms that were away from the beach were very peaceful. Overall our stay was my favourite resort stay in a very long time. Food was great as well.

Thank you for sharing your review of Mahekal Beach Resort, Shirley! We are glad that you had a wonderful and enjoyable experience. We are happy that the rooms, the beds, the cleaness, and staff, all made a possitive impact on you stay with us. We apologize for any inconvenience if the public beach was a bit noisy during your stay, for your next visit we recommend an Oasis room if you wish for a more jungle-oasis vibe, or a Penthouse room if you would still love to wake up and see the ocean from you balcony without being directly on the beach. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

The resort is beautiful! Well landscaped and clean. The location is perfect. The side road leading out to Fifth Avenue from the resort has a lot of great restaurants and cute shops. We stayed in an Ocean front room and had a beautiful view. The balcony was awesome with a table and chairs and hammocks if desired. Some reviews complained of beach noise but it was never an issue for us. There were a lot of locals hanging out on the beach but that added a fun atmosphere. The club noise many reviews mention was not an issue in ocean front rooms. I could see that some Garden rooms and the Oasis area could be loud. I noticed club noise late when walking around those areas. The Las Olas pool was where we spent most of our time. It was a good temperature and the hot tub there was hot so we could always warm up if the breeze was cool. Pool service was great. Servers were very friendly and prompt with orders. Always free chairs around the pool, even for all 6 of us! The food was good. Breakfast was repetitive but plenty of variety so it didn’t matter. We did the breakfast/dinner inclusive option. You can swap lunch for dinner which we usually did and had guacamole, salsa etc for lunch and then would go out to other restaurants for dinner. That worked out perfectly. The negative is the front desk. We waited so very long to check in. My group of 6 friends made the best of it since we hadn’t seen each other in ages, but many people were upset, understandably. It seemed to take almost 30 minutes per group for check in so we waited about an hour and half before we were in our room! I’m really not clear on why the paperwork wasn’t just all ready to go for arrivals. Very strange. I’ve never experienced anything like it before and I’ve travelled in Mexico a lot. Check out was better and the worker was so friendly. I wish I could remember his name. Still took longer than seemed necessary but at least we had a good conversation!
