Set between the tropical jungle foliage and the picturesque turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea sits the quintessence of a sustainable all-inclusive luxury resort. A secluded sanctuary with swim up suites, jungle spa, plunge pools, infinity pool, swim up bars, butler service, gourmet restaurants, private beach, and 24-hour room service sets The House of AiA apart from other luxury resorts in Mexico. The House of AiA offers a level of seclusion and tranquility often associated with far-flung island resorts. As the sun sets over the white sand beach, the pink horizon transforms into a star filled night sky becoming an overwhelming impulse for a romantic stroll through soft sands and lapping waves. The exquisitely designed oceanfront suites complemented by stunning ocean views, elegant decor, and holistic amenities are unlike anything else in the Riviera Maya.

Beautiful plant based resort. The location is amazing right on the beach. The facilities are top class. The staff and service is excellent. It is a quiet heaven in Playa. My wife is vegan and she loved the food, all the restaurants are excellent but my favourite was Su Casa which had an excellent location right overlooking the beach and the ocean. The breakfast everyday was excellent, eggs to order, avo toast and what not, you could eat to your heart's desire. The activities like Yoga and chanting were also excellent and very relaxing. Can't wait to come back, waiting for December. For kids they have a small waterpark with slides which my 12 year old really enjoyed.

We were in the Ocean Front King Suite With Bathtub. The rooms are spacious and the balcony has wooden panels so you can do yoga or other practices right in front of the ocean. The bathtub is really big and great for two people. The overall design is modern and calming. I also want to mention Ed (manager) who was very nice and helpful.

I visited Palmaia for a week over Thanksgiving, and we enjoyed our stay for the most part. It's a beautiful resort, and while the design and amenities are top tier, there are several elements which need improvement. Bottom line is I would expect a higher level of service at this price point, so I hope they can work out the kinks as I'd like to return in the future. PROS... - Ocean view room was spectacular, well-appointed, and comfortable - Grounds were well designed and maintained - Spa services, especially the massages, were incredible - Food was delicious for the most part, but some options were bland and unexciting - Staff was very friendly and willing to help - Music was well-curated, and overall vibe was relaxing - Golf carts and bikes readily available when needed - Off site shopping close by for basic toiletries, etc. CONS... - Too many kids, running wild. Everywhere. Need an adults-only area - Pools were not heated. Too cold to swim in and largely uninhabited - Gym was relatively small for a resort this size - Huge language barrier; some staff not speaking or understanding English - Inattention to food allergies & requests; friend was served peppers several times after noting on every restaurant reservation and again upon arrival for each dinner - Nomadic guides and reception didn't always respond, and sometimes confirmed incorrect reservation times CONSIDERATION / RECOS FOR HOTEL... - Consider adults-only areas and / or restaurant or restaurant night (or make it an adults only resort!) - There are likely staff shortages due to the pandemic, but client-facing staff should speak fluent English - Beach at Sandols is much better - smoother and flatter; maybe comb and flatten out the beach at Palmaia to offer better experience for the guests - Consider updating food menus to include more non-vegan options, and true international cuisine choices (more pescatarian options - sushi, asian fushion, mediterranean, etc.)

We arrived at Palmaia on Christmas Eve, it wasn't a great start as the hotel mixed up our room -- it was really the fault of AC vacations who advertised the set up of the rooms incorrectly. The hotel was able to sort out our room situation after we were nearly in tears from a long day of travel, hungry cranky children and the day before Christmas. The next morning we woke up and quickly realized we were in paradise. Breakfast was amazing. Don't let the plant-based menu deter you, there are lots of options you just have to specify what you want. The property itself is incredibly beautiful and natural -- built right into the jungle with lots of private areas. It never felt busy, no pumping music like other resorts. Very secluded and safe which was important to us with young kids. The spa experience and all the rituals were very special, but if you're not into that then the pool, beach and bar are great options for a day well spent. The service was good overall, at times a bit slow and sometimes the waiters would forget things. It didn't really bother us that much -- everyone was very friendly but I think some of the staff were new, so a little patience was needed. The interior design of the restaurants is breathtaking, all the food was beyond delicious, very flavourful and fresh. Would we go back? Absolutely.

When I pay north of $1,000 a night, I expect perfection. The location, scenery, rooms, views, architecture, everything about the property, was really beautiful and felt exclusive. The vibe was very relaxed, and every staff member was amazing, friendly and helpful. The pools were fantastic and we really loved our meals at Su Casa (breakfast and lunch only, did not get to try dinner) because the restaurant was in the perfect spot, overlooking the beach and ocean, so beautiful. Food overall was really good. I love meat and fish and was able to have that at every meal with no hassle at all. Plantissa was a gorgeous space and we loved going for smoothie bowls. We did not attend any of the classes or go to the spa. The reason I am knocking off a star is because of two reasons. The first is that dinners at Ume and Lek were just average. Nothing to do with the service, just the menu, vibe and the food were so-so. (One night we could only get a reservation earlier in the night and the restaurant had a good amount of small screaming children. If this resort was adults only that would be a big plus). The second reason I'm knocking off a star is because the ocean water was not swimmable, very brown, lots of seaweed floating around. Yes, I know, the Palmaia doesn't control Mother Nature. We went in December when the sargassum is not supposed to be as bad as in the summer. On the same trip we also stayed on the beach in Tulum as well as at the Fairmont Mayakoba. The beach at those two places was exponentially better, in fact, wonderful, and no problems swimming. When I pay a fortune, I expect perfection and I didn't think it was perfect. If I had paid half of what I paid, I would have given 5 stars for sure.
