Wyndham Alltra Playa Del Carmen Adults Only All Inclusive garners praise for its prime location near 5th Avenue and its vibrant atmosphere, complete with music and entertainment. The rooms are a mixed bag; some are spacious with ocean views, while others suffer from noise and cleanliness issues. While guests appreciate the clean pools and variety of food options, the limited beach and chair access can be a downside.
Service is generally applauded for staff friendliness, yet some experience slow service and room allocation challenges. Opinions on value vary, with some guests finding it affordable and others pointing out extra costs.

Food My husband and I have no complaints here. We loved the variety of food options. The affogato at Bella Italian restaurant was a standout for us. The Steakhouse and Mexican restaurants were also fantastic. The buffet is great too, though it does get busy by 9 AM, but it's not a huge issue. The staff is wonderful—definitely tip them as they really deserve it. A note about drinks: straws are no longer allowed in Mexico, so if you prefer to use one, you might want to bring your own to make your drinks more enjoyable.
Hotel Room We stayed in a junior suite, which was clean and well-kept. The housekeeping team was diligent, cleaning our room daily and also does mosquito spray. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The only downside was the shower—it fluctuated between hot and cold water sometimes, which was a bit frustrating. As Canadians, we definitely appreciate a warm shower! 😅
Crowd We didn’t see many guests under 30, but overall, the crowd was friendly and pleasant, except for three rowdy young adults we bumped into a few times. Other than that, the atmosphere was great.
Hotel Location The beach is nothing to write home about, but the pools are fantastic, and if you want a good seat, be sure to get up early because they fill up quickly. The hotel is conveniently located close to shopping areas, like 5th Street. For more affordable souvenirs, Walmart is a great option—just a 15-minute walk from the hotel. They have really good stuff and it will save you some $$$ too!
Pro-tip: If you’re visiting this month, better bring a light sweater as it gets a little breezy. Weather wasn’t great, it has been a rainy week for us.

Staying at your hotel was a great pleasure. Your staff is exceptional and strived to go above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be. This made us feel very comfortable and welcome on your resort. The room was the exact room that we requested and room service was an added luxury that was very beneficial for my husband and myself on the days that we needed it. The bed sheets could be a little less rough, otherwise, everything in the room was great. Eric at the pool bar made our stay a memorable one and we were sure to let him know that. We thoroughly enjoyed our chocolate dipped strawberries that were waiting for us in our room when we arrived, we loved how clean it was (except for under the bed), we loved coming back to our rooms every day to a fully stocked fridge and we took notice that the staff member who helped us with our luggage made sure that the temperature of the room was what we would be comfortable with because it was set to Canadian temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius (this was very thoughtful and very much appreciated). The air conditioning worked perfectly for our entire stay and we only had to have our key cards fixed once (on our second last day). We were so happy to have found a spot that was very private at the top of your resort being the hot tub. I have a bad back and it really helped to relax me. We loved the big round bamboo beds that were placed there and actually both of us fell asleep on them for a short time because it was so nice to have that spot to ourselves with no one else around. I did notice the last time I went into the hot tub, there were many little flies that I had to scoop out of the water with my hands. Maybe if there was a small skimmer that people could use to remove the debris from rough winds and flies from the tub, that would be ideal. I would have scooped them out a lot easier if there was one that was accessible. We adored the little creatures that the maid left on our bed every day that he/she made with towels when we returned to our room and especially loved the effort that was put into the making of the swans on the bed on our last day. The resort was plush with vibrant green palm trees and plants that made it feel like a sanctuary which I loved and the structure of the archways going to our room and all over the hotel with Grecian style pillars in our room as well were breath-taking and beautiful. I felt like I was in a palace. I’ve never seen a better resort than yours and we have been to a few resorts in Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Approximately 15 different 4.5-5 star resorts. When my husband and I went to the end of our hallway where our room was, we walked out onto the balcony that was there. When we were finished with the view there, I turned to step over the floor hump to get off the balcony and tripped over it and fell down on my hip. I knew the ending of the floor was there, but I think it is a little high to step over. I am very sore from the fall but hopefully it will feel better soon. I thought you should know that is a little dangerous. Maybe make them a different Color than the floor? Because of this stay, I know we will be back. The food every day was above and beyond any expectations we had. We loved every meal we had and loved that there were steamed cauliflower, carrots and broccoli every evening. I was a little disturbed by the display of the full body pig one night, but I understand that this is tradition in some places and I respect that. I should have asked the waiter to move me to another table instead of sitting beside it. It just made me feel uncomfortable. The little coffee shop with the free ice cream and the grab and go 24 hr snack bar was very nice and convenient. Well thought out. Especially for those who need to catch a shuttle before breakfast. Room service was greatly appreciated as well for this reason. We loved the entertainment in the evenings..especially when my back was sore and we could watch the shows from our balcony. We had peaceful sleep during the evenings except for on our last night when there was a lot of noise coming from the room beside us. They stayed up until 3-4am and talked loudly and had the tv playing loudly all night. We had to get up early to catch our shuttle the next morning but I did not want to complain because I thought that your staff was so pleasing that I didn’t want to put that responsibility to stop the neighbours from having their get together on them. They did so much already to make our stay so wonderful. We also liked the servers at the buffet and loved that we could pick any alacarte that we wanted whenever we wanted. Our waiter, Jacob, was more than helpful at the steak alacarte the two nights we went and was very friendly and helped my husband with his Spanish daily at breakfast. My husband was very fond of Jacob and I felt that they developed a bit of a friendship while we were there. We are thankful that we had the chance to meet him and very impressed with his ability to speak English, French and Spanish. I can’t remember everyone’s names but we felt that all staff members were friendly, caring, and respectful. We felt safe and felt that we could trust anyone that worked there. Whoever did the hiring of this fine group of people did an acceptional job of placing each and every staff member where they thought they would best be useful. Well done. When we were there, we were asked by Melanie (one of the entertainers) what we would change about the hotel if we could change something. Of course our answer was quick and we told her that everything was perfect on our second day but also told her that the smell coming from the beach around the main pool area was horrendous (of which we saw first hand why it smelled so bad when we walked down the beach one day on our way back from Fifth Avenue through all the seaweed that staff are trying tirelessly to clean up). Because of this, there were only a few places to choose to sit around the pool away from the area that smelled badly and because the other half of the pool was surrounded entirely by canopies that we soon found out that some of the staff and time share people were selling to the guests for $150/day but learned when we looked at our offers in the pamphlet we were given when we arrived that the canopies could be purchased for 79.00 per day. This was disappointing. We thought the Canopies should be included for anyone who is staying on the resort that wants to use one. Especially where there really is no beach there to enjoy. There shouldn’t be any added cost to use them unless you want the full treatment with the bottle of champagne and anything special added to the use of it. I think you should give people a choice—- you can use the canopies at no extra charge since you have limited beach space for enjoyment and charge extra if anything extra is required with the use of the canopies such as birthday celebrations and what not. I would also recommend that the canopies and pool beds be equally distributed around the pool since it is really the only place to swim on the resort besides the swim up bar at the sushi place which is smallish and since there is reduced seating around the main pool due to the smell coming from the beach, people should be able to chose to sit on the side of the pool where all the canopies are if they want to. It feels like you’re not welcome on that side of the pool when you don’t want to pay the extra for a canopy. After thinking about everything after returning home from our vacation, we thought there should be a swim up bar in the main pool as well. If not a swim up bar, I think that the waiters should be offering to get drinks for people while they are enjoying the pool. It would be so much more convenient than having to get in and out of the pool every 10 minutes or so because the drink cups are small and you get thirsty fast under that beautiful Mexican sunshine. Overall, my husband and I had a very nice time at your resort and thought it was conveniently connected to the famous Fifth Avenue. Your staff members were very professional and caring which made us feel welcome, we got more than we ever could have asked for out of a long overdue honeymoon and I’d have to say that it was one of the best places I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying at. We learned a lot about Mexican life on Fifth Avenue and even some of the culture that seems to be slowly being replaced with merchandise that does not include true Mexican culture and beliefs. We look for special pieces of art that is hand made when we visit other countries and we really look forward to resorts bringing unique vendors to the resort’s property at night time especially for people who can only walk short distances and cannot walk Fifth Avenue. I am one of those people because of my back issues. I really would have enjoyed the resort even more if there were vendors tables set up after dinner before the shows. (Just a suggestion). I do understand that there are no perfect resorts and you cannot please all the people all the time, but I think your resort could be close to perfect with some of the changes I suggested in this review. Thank you for having us at your beautiful resort. Our time there will be cherished for years to come. I’m sure you will see us again in the near future.
Yours truly,
Angela and Patrick McGraw

As long as you know what you’re getting into this is a fine hotel to stay at in the heart of PDC within walking distance of fifth Avenue and all it has to offer. There is absolutely no beach. Even to get access to the tiny rough north beach is so inconvenient that it doesn’t even count. This is a smaller resort where you will actually be able to get to know staff. Most staff are friendly and efficient. It is truly special to have a specific waiter point at you and know what your drink is. This is an experience you will rarely get in a larger resort. Rooms are large and feature dispenser bottles in the shower for shampoo and body wash. The concoctions are not particularly special and more jelly than anything else so bring your own if you’re fussy. There’s a hairdryer plenty of hooks within the bathroom for things to dry. And a -very oddly placed in my case -But wonderfully lit make up mirror. There is a small fridge well stocked with beer pop and water. A tv with both English and Spanish programming. This time we found herself in a wing where there are large fans and tanks on the main floor roof in order to accommodate the kitchen. These provided a very unfortunate roar, and I just wonder if the hotel could do something more for guests who have to put up with the noise Such as putting sound buffer doors on the stairwells that are open to this area because we really did use our room only for sleeping. It wasn’t a big deal to us and these were definitely the lower priced rooms. There was an elevator at the end of our hallway that went out of service the day after we arrived, and no one was seen working on it for our entire time there. So be prepared to use stairs and have proper footwear because when it rains, everything is slippery. One thing that I was surprised about was that there was no umbrellas available. We happened upon a week that was full of rain And umbrellas would’ve made a little easier to get out and do stuff. Of course, food is always the thing that people comment on when they’re at an all inclusive. We enjoyed our experiences at both the Italian and steakhouse. This time the buffet put the breakfast bacon out, as the last visit they were hiding it behind the counter. So I guess good times have arrived. This is not an extensive buffet and you will find some oddly recycled items as the week moves on. In general, there was always something to find and the juice bar was always a favourite in the morning. The main buffet seating is cut to only about 20 tables for supper. I guess they would expect you to be making reservations at the specialty restaurants which are easy to get by visiting the concierge desk. Overall, I think in any situation, it’s the staff that make or break your visit. We found that the staff were excellent. I was even impressed with the room cleaning. Suggestion: Stock up on smaller bills for regular tipping.

I want to begin by saying that every employee I encountered during my stay was polite, respectful and resourceful. The resort was clean and the food was pretty good. However, there were a few things lacking. First, the resort is billed as all-inclusive, however, there were up charges for many things, particularly certain alcohols and food, and the options were limited.
It rained while I was there so a lot of the activities and entertainment all took place in one room, the lobby bar. There was nowhere else to go. If you didn't want to watch the evening's show, too bad, there was nothing else to do. I think, even without the rain, the resort would really benefit from having at least one more flexible indoor space for guests to use. There was a secondary check-in room that looked like it is meant to be used as a ballroom, I think that could be better utilized as an additional bar/lounge with a different theme perhaps or even just a room to hold the evening's show when it's raining.
Speaking of the evening show, the resort basically shuts down after that. The DJ for the show, Raul, is fantastic. One of the nights I was there, he played music for a while afterwards and everyone had a good time and he played a good mix of music. However, after the music stopped and the lights came on, it kind of felt like the end of a wedding when they're trying to get everyone to leave. The lobby bar is allegedly open until midnight but the bartenders were cleaning up well before then.
To me, an adults only all inclusive resort should have food and beverages available 24/7, people should feel comfortable to be walking around whenever they want, and there should be options open and available at all times. This resort did not quite hit the mark there.

This resort offers a more intimate experience compared to its larger counterparts. What made it special was the chance to forge connections with fellow traveller's, something we often missed out on in bigger resorts. We crossed paths with delightful couples, adding a personal touch to our stay.
Situated just a block away from Playa, the location boasts vibrant shopping options, albeit with frequent encounters with street vendors. While it might feel abrupt, a determined stride forward without engaging in eye contact ensures swift navigation through the bustling streets. Despite the minor inconvenience, it's a reminder of the local livelihoods we encountered with empathy.
Evenings here tend to wind down after 9 pm, except for those venturing to the lively 5th Avenue strip for entertainment. However, if cleanliness is a concern, this resort excels. The rooms were impeccably maintained, though a hint of mildew lingered—an inevitable consequence of Mexico's humid climate. Dining experiences were a highlight, with standout dishes at the Mexican and Italian restaurants, not to mention the delightful sushi bar. I'd recommend the Cannelloni and the Chicken Enchiladas Mole. We indulged without worry, as neither of us experienced any digestive issues, even daring to brush our teeth with tap water—a testament to the resort's standards.
Our relaxation peaked with a couple's massage at the spa, a blissful escape marred only by the limited hydrotherapy facilities. While the solo experience was rejuvenating, sharing it with my husband would have elevated the experience. Given the choice, we'd opt for the couples massage over hydrotherapy any day.

We were first placed in the standard room which was very small and dark with no windows, a very small bathroom which was not cleaned well (we found hair in the shower) and very far from the reception/main lobby area which was not what we were suppose to get. Than after accidentally leaving our key card in our room in our bikinis and barefoot we were told to go to the other end of the hotel to reception to get a new key where the floors were wet and slippery and dangerous. After threatening to sue them they got us a key and opened our door. After many complaints that this is not the room we expected we were upgraded to the junior suite room which was beautiful big, large clean shower and right above the main lobby area so we were very happy with this room. The small pool had a swim up bar which was located way at the other end of the resort but the larger main pool did not which was very disappointing. The food was ok the buffet wasnt that good. Only 3 restaurants to choose from Italian and Steakhouse were good and the Mexican one we did not enjoy. The entertainment was alright it wasn't that exciting. The one show we were looking forward too (fire show) got cancelled due to the rain very disappointing. We were told their would be many parties at night which their was not at all. The only party was a foam party during the day which we enjoyed but only lasted an hour. All entertainment ended by 10pm and alcohol stopped being served by 11pm which was very disappointing since I came to stay up late drinking and partying which we were not able to do. We went to a friend's balcony to chat at 11pm and listened to some music on low and the front desk knocked on our door at 11:30pm to complain we were being to loud and too turn the music off, we were not being loud at all. We turned the music off and 15min later the phone rang from front desk complaining yet again. We were forced to be in bed by 11pm since their was absolutely nothing else to do and all we could here was the hotel across the street partying until 2 or 3am. The beach was not easily accessible from our hotel we had to walk 10min up the road to it and it smelled so bad of fish and tons of seaweed and some rocks. We were not able to enjoy it at all. The resort was in walking distance about 10min to 5th Ave which was a fantastic place to go shopping. I didn't like how far it was from the airport we were told 40min drive and we ended up being on the shuttle bus for an hour and a half because they took forever dropping off other people at there resorts. Overall I do not recommend the Wyndham Alltra Adults Only Resort to anyone looking to stay up late partying and drinking. It is a nice resort more for seniors wanting to relax and be in bed by 11pm. Unless you have lots of money to waste going to 5th Ave every night at 11pm you can party there.

The only good thing was the location. Close to local shopping and restaurants.
The hotel it’s a little older but well maintained but the beach was DISGUSTING! First there is no beach access so the photos on the website are very misleading. It was covered in old seaweed that stuck to high heaven. They could easily rake it daily to keep the appearance of a beach and help the smell. We could not even open our balcony door due to the smell. The service is lacking. We were ignored and often overlooked. We had to refill our water many times while the staff stood around chatting w/each other. The cocktails were not good at all, I get they use cheap liquor but a mojito is pretty basic and it was not drinkable. Very disappointed in the cocktails. Food was mediocre at best, buffet was days of the same foods just refurbished. Also none of the bars open onsite until 11 am!
Thankfully it was located very close to their town and the restaurants open early serving well made drinks and food!

My friends and I had a great experience!! We were welcomed with a refreshing non-alcoholic drink each time we came in and the staff were very friendly and attentive in the lobby and restaurants overall. Service to our room was a little slow, so be sure to call well in advance or just walk down to the lobby. It's small enough that everything is easily accessible, but large enough that nothing is really overcrowded.
We weren't able to visit Bella as it was too busy at the time we were available, but we heard it was very good so make your reservations as early as possible if you want to go at a specific time. There were enough other food options to keep us fed, though, and the items overall were good. If you don't like the options they have though, or want to explore beyond the resort, they are walking distance from the main strip that has lots of food, shopping, and entertainment.
The resort also had a silent disco and foam party that were really fun. They have an on-site photographer that will take your photos for the duration of your stay if you want, and ours came out beautifully. They also have a tranquil pool if you just want to relax and be away from the noise and music near the beach area. That pool is also near the sushi bar.
If you want a fun kid-free stay at a great price, I highly recommend!

I don't usually write reviews but had to warn anyone considering this property! Upon arrival we were hit with the odor of Sh!t the minute the airport shuttle doors opened at the resort. My word choice is intentional to provide you with the most accurate description of what you are in for if you select this resort. You are spending your money to smell poop every single day of your stay. The staff have been coached to lie and say it's seaweed...they need to stop telling guests that sewage is seaweed!!! Why would they have to dig up the entire beach for seaweed? Every other resort just had cleaning crews clean the beaches.
We went to other properties to the left and right of the Wyndham Alltra and despite being part of the same strip of beach on the same body of water their beaches (with seaweed) did not smell of feces! We couldn't even really eat on day one as the smell permeates throughout the entire property.
Our first room was dirty with a view of a dingy pharmacy and back of some sketchy buildings. We changed rooms but mornings were awful, between the staff talking/singing loudly (before 8:30am) and the taxi guys lined up talking in front of the street and what we were told was a tranquil pool by the sushi bar (which was definitely loud & rowdy everyday) this was not relaxing at all. I tried repeatedly to sleep in and relax but it was just too noisy.
Most staff were very friendly, hardworking and accommodating and they have probably lost all sense of smell to work there everyday. I must say the people who work there are the best thing about the property. We met other guests from London, Utah, Arkansas, Kentucky and everyone was disappointed and displeased feeling we'd all been hoodwinked. Actually the term most used was "Catfished" as there was no notice that there was no beach by the pool as pictured on the JetBlue Vacations and Wyndham website; just a few small boats floating on mud and poop, cranes digging up the area...which was noisy and diminished photo opportunities to at least "look like" you're having fun. You had to look beyond a football field length of mud and poop before you could see the beautiful blue water everyone comes to Mexico to see. When the issue was raised to the staff they directed us to the North Beach. I felt hopeful that I would see a nice beach after all but the North Beach was a sad, awful patch of rocky sand that they tried to squeeze as many beach loungers on as possible. It was comical and at that point all I could do was laugh at "The Little Beach that Could(n't)" it was a waste of time just to walk to it. Its literally just rocks. What we all saw on the websites was certainly not what Wyndham delivered. I'm very shocked that such a reputable brand in hospitality would allow such an operation to impact their integrity.

A great resort and experience! The location is great, just a short walk away from the shops and there are many tour stalls around to buy a tour from. You do need to haggle and bring the price down. Even shopping locally was very expensive, even with cutting the prices down but I guess it is a tourist area!
Our room was comfortable but there was a noise in the background through the night (sounded like we were near a generator? But with jet lag we were so exhausted in the evenings that it didn’t affect our sleep!).
There are lifts and easy access around the large resort even if you have mobility issues.
The pools were lovely. Large one had daily entertainment and water sport class. We were on the beach and had a few days of excess seaweed which the hotel cleared promptly (left a fishy smell around the area and pool).
Exercise - they have a gym and daily yoga classes by the sea and other sports.
Food- we had 3 restaurants to choose from in the evenings but you need to pre book otherwise we had a 4th one which was buffet and didn’t require any bookings. We loved the Italian and Brazilian. We found the Mexican a but hit and miss depending on the chef that evening. Food tasted very salty for us. Daytime there a sushi bar, pizza bar, buffet restaurant with all you can think of, a cafe with whatever coffee or cake you like (and the best icecream!), a snack bar with salads and sandwich’s and fresh fruit pots. And rooms evice food which was really tasty. You will not go hungry!
Entertainment was great. Something on every night. The staff are so friendly and we made new friends everyday with other fun hotel dwellers. Lots of people from uk and USA. You won’t get bored!
Highly recommend this hotel. We would definitely come back!

It is very small. Much of the beach was lost in the last hurricane. There is a small patch of sand right next to the main pool. There is a larger beach off the end of the resort that is a public beach. It was pretty crowded the day I checked it out. If you prefer the beach to the pool, this is not the resort for you.
There are more places to choose from in the Playa del Carmen area.
