We arrived at 23:30 and all eateries were closed. The next morning while having breakfast at the cafeteria we attempted to book some restaurants dinners. It was Sunday and nothing was available until Wednesday. We had to eat breakfast lunch and dinner in the cafeteria for the first 3 1/2 days. That was disappointing as well as the shaded areas at the beach, unless you had the black bracelet you had to constantly move your lounge chair to follow the shade of the palm trees, unlike the others that had huts and cabanas and beds to lie under.

Hotel's Favourite
My boyfriend and I traveled to this hotel to celebrate our one year anniversary. We spent 7 days at the resort and just got back. We are extremely happy with our experience. We booked using RCI, our timeshare vacation exchange company and our room was in the adults only side. I think it's important to have realistic expectations of any resort, especially an all inclusive one of this size that has an adults only section and also welcomes families. Here is our honest and detailed review: Staff- We found most of the staff in the resort to be very pleasant and accommodating. Our concierges Itzel Orapeza and Sebastian Veramendi were exceptional. They reached out to us a few days before we arrived to introduce themselves to us and they maintained daily contact with us via WhatsApp chat. They helped us with our reservations to the restaurants, and gave us a tour of the resort so we knew where everything was. They reminded us of activities we might enjoy on the resort and set up reservations to the special events. They also set up our daypass to the Sandos Playacar since we were told the beach at this resort was rocky. We had water shoes but decided to try the other beach simply because I am not a strong swimmer and wanted to go into water I could easily walk in and wade in. Both of us got sick during our stay (me on day 5 and my boyfriend on day 6). Itzel and Sebastian made sure we had fresh chicken soups made to order, and bread and plain rice sent to our room. Being sick on vacation was a downer, but it can happen anywhere. I've traveled to Morocco and stayed at a 5 ★ hotel and had vomiting and diarrhea there too. Food- The food at the buffet for breakfast and lunch were fine. Lots of options to choose from, some were tastier then others. This is a typical buffet experience anywhere you travel. They do have fresh made to offer items on the grill such as omelettes, steak, chicken and pork chops. This is the way to go if you're concerned about food born illness from buffets. We only ate at the buffet once for breakfast and once for lunch because I found it to be too warm. They do have air conditioners and fans but with the pyramid style hut cielings and so many people inside of the restaurant it was not cool enough for me. My boyfriend was fine though so this is my issue that I am more sensitive to heat/hot temperatures. The restaurants were very good and our concierges got us in to all of them at the times we wanted. We ate at Toscano (Italian), Lirios (seafood) and Templo (Japanese) and loved the meals there. They will also bring you second portions if you want (so you can have two steaks, etc). We had breakfast and lunch at Fogo de Brazil almost every day since this was a la carte and was in the adults only section. We really enjoyed this restaurant as well and the service was great. Drinks- We had a bottle of tequila, sparkling wine and red wine in our room which was refilled whenever we wanted. The mini fridge had beers, soda and mineral waters. We also had our own water cooler in the room with filtered water. The cocktails/ drinks at the bars were "okay". The margaritas were the best thing to order and came in several flavors. This was not a deal breaker for us. There was a bar next to the theater that served excellent drinks. Spa and Pools- the adults only pool and jacuzzis were very clean, and well maintained. It was a peaceful environment and where we chose to spend most of our time during the day. There were plenty of pool chairs and huts to cover you from the sun. I like that the pool was 4 1/2 feet deep all across so you could swim in it and also walk and exercise in it (aqua aerobics). We loved listening to our small speaker poolside with our drinks on the edge while we waded in the pool. The bar was pool side. Guadalupe took great care of us and brought drinks to us poolside and also made a yummy margarita too. The main pool was a nightmare for me lol! Too many kids and they splashed and screamed, like we all know kids do. We tried it for one hour and never went back to that pool. The spa was amazing and the prices were great. The massages were excellent with Norma and Lorena and the hydrotherapy pool was divine. We also really enjoyed the saunas and face masks and body scrub treatments we received. For the couples- we found it was way cheaper to book two massages separately for the same day and time. We still did every experience together except for the actual massage where we were in two separate rooms. Fun/ amenities- Our room was very clean and comfortable and there is a red light outside the room which indicates do not disturb to the cleaning staff. The bed was firm and comfortable and we had lots of pillows. The A/C in the room was excellent. The TV had clear reception and plenty of channels and we were able to see TV shows and movies in English and some with subtitles in English all week. We liked having double sinks in the room and a large walk in shower. The water pressure and temperature were excellent. This resort has so much to do that you really don't have to leave. We were planning on going on outside excursions but didn't feel the need to. We were able to swim in a cenote, see Mayan ruins, walk in the jungle and see animals (we also had a fun time seeing the monkeys and coatis from our balcony. They were also around the pool area). They had a romantic boat ride and swimming in the Jade river. They have vendors selling all types of Mexican art, souvenirs, clothing, typical food in one area of the resort. They even had a fair one night where even more vendors were there. So you can shop and buy things there that are made from local people (many are indigenous so you are supporting local communities). They are happy to negotiate prices and you will find beautiful and useful things at this "market". The evening shows are very entertaining (i.e. a fire show, 80's show, a show about Mexican history and culture, Michael Jackson, Beauty and the Beast). The musicians and singers are very talented. My boyfriend was singing along to the 80's show as if we were at a live concert. They had karaoke night at the theater and my boyfriend sang and it was a blast for us. Important things to know- you are going to be in a resort in a similar setting to a JUNGLE. It is hot and very humid especially in August when we traveled. It also rains for short periods of time almost every day. There are plenty of animals and yes there are bugs that the animals eat. So we saw cockroach looking bugs a few times when outside and we saw flies. I was only bitten once by a mosquito so they must be spraying the grounds. Bring bug spray, and also bring ibuprofen, pepto bismol, immodium and alka seltzer. This will allow you to recover fairly quickly if you do get a bit of travelers diarrhea, or catch a bug from eating at the buffet ( which again can happen in any country you travel to). However if you forget these items they do have a store on site that sells everything like this. To the ladies reading this- wearing your hair in braids or a protective style is wise. Otherwise you will probably have your hair up in a ponytail or bun day and night. It's too hot and humid to try to blow dry your hair straight or do curls or waves or other styles. Wigs will be unbearable and tape in extensions will not survive this environment. Naturally curly hair will look fine in this weather but it will feel very hot on your shoulders and back if you wear it loose.

My partner and I recently enjoyed a stay at sandos Caracol. We are a couple in our 30s, no kids. We stayed in the adults only section which is a big must for anyone able to, the breakfast and lunch options are about 100x better than anything on the family friendly side. The pool is lovely, there are snacks, coffee and concierge right there to enjoy too. The resort grounds are beautiful and clearly they work hard to maintain both the natural beauty and the resort itself which was nice to see. The adults only section of the beach has plenty of chairs and and beds as well as cabanas that don't need to be reserved. Generally a fun resort to explore and find hidden gems including several cenotes, ruins and even a suspension bridge. We were lucky enough to enjoy the romantic boat ride, Jade river swim and the pre Hispanic lunch. I chose the word "lucky" here because unfortunately getting these activities booked seemed to be a little challenging at times. You had to book some of them one day ahead of time, no wiggle room. We were on an excursion which meant we wouldn't have had time to book the boat ride before our time was up which meant waiting and asking repeatedly if the manager was available. Once he was, it was booked without issue. A bit of a hassle but we were glad to experience it. The eco activity team were excellent and friendly. We had an especially pleasant experience with Jesus (the manager), Beck and Daniel! Dining. This was probably the biggest downfall of our whole experience. We were told to download an app at check in, everything could be booked through there. Only to find out that two of the 5 couldn't and one wasn't working during our stay. Concierge let us know they couldn't help and we were to speak with the info desk by the sports bar. So off we went just to be told on our first day that the two restaurants we wanted (Brazilian and teppanyaki) were booked for the whole week and we were out of luck. That was it, our problem, not theirs. We weren't thrilled about that so we went back to concierge who got us a reservation for the Mediterranean a la carte the next night. So that night we ate at the Mexican buffet... Awful. Except for the mariachi band that played for us. Long lines. Chaos. No service and super duper sub par food. Riviera was a lovely experience. Delicious. Best. Dessert. Ever. No complaints. The next night we tried just showing up at El Templo (teppanyaki) as per everyone's suggestion, to see if there was space for 2. We were met by Montserrat, the hostess, who single handedly ruined that entire evening for us. She was rude, unfair, condescending and seemed to thrive in giving guests a disgusting attitude. After we were shafted in favour of a group who showed up late and offered her money, we were back to concierge. Daniel at concierge took our complaint, he listened attentively and assured us he would try to rectify the situation and apologized for the experience. At some point the next day, we got a delivery of chocolate strawberries wine and a bottle of champagne and shortly after that Daniel called our room to let us know he got us a reservation that evening! He really saved the whole situation for us and without his due diligence we would have been left with a bad taste in our mouth about the whole resort. Other than that, we also ate the Brazilian a la carte (by showing up early and graciously being accepted). All the a LA carte were delicious and once past we got paste Montserrat, everyone was lovely and helpful and service was excellent. Check in and check out were flawlessly handled. The bell boys were helpful and efficient. Quite a smooth experience. Biggest recommendation at this resort would be to push concierge to help plan your activities and dining reservations as soon as you arrive. If nothing else, have them explain how to book these, when and where!

Extremely friendly resort. Lots to do. Lots to see. Everything was very clean. Do yourself a favor, go to the Laguna buffet once or twice, as they don't change the menu but it is extensive. The adults only pool, bar, and restaurant is a good place to hang. Shout out to our concierge Javier. Couldn't ask for a better associate.

I got what I expected. The location lacks modernity or style. However, this is not a five-star resort. The food was decent, but the desserts were not. About the activities, I was delighted with several options. The personnel is amazingly polite and friendly. I would recommend it for families with young children who want a budget vacation.

Variety. Variety and nature are the two strongest aspects of this resort. Before I get into the whole review, I want to offer a shutout to Juan Carlos for his excellent and disciplined instruction of Ashtanga Yoga. The atmosphere of the jungle, the Tibetan bowls, incense and meditation had these yoga classes immersive, highly engaging and relaxing. *Bug Spray recommended. The resort is built amidst a jungle landscape including a variety of wildlife (Coati, Monkeys, Peacocks, Iguanas, etc.) for nature lovers to experience. The resort includes a variety of food options that can serve most palettes, simply be aware that there are often times lineups and making reservations for the à la carte dining can prove to be tricky. Of the various activities, there are a fair few pools that include a cast of entertainment staff to keep things fresh and exciting with Zumba, Water polo, Beach Volleyball & more. There are activities (including Yoga) which can be scheduled one day in advanced at the info centre, allowing you the opportunity to go Kayaking or swim through the Jade River. Alongside all of this there is a theatre with different performances every day, and a gym & spa (extra charges for the spa) area for those who value maintaining their fitness while out and about. All in all, there is a lot to do, beautiful atmosphere and welcoming staff. Highly recommended.

It is actually a really nice resort with fantastic surroundings and nature and the most friendly and nice staff, but also so many things that are not optimal, so i have tried to rate different subject: - Food: 2/3 same buffet all days though there are two places the quality was not very good, and the line for making omelets or the line for grilled meat was way to long, because there was only one person making it (waiting time for omelet was easy 20 min.) The Brazilian and the Japanese la carte restaurants were good and the others we tried was not worth it. Booking a la carte restaurants was a joke. You have to stand in line 90-120 minutes to book the Brazilian and Janpanese, and You have to book the others in an app that we could not get to work for the 9 days we stayed at the resort. - Animal/nature experince: 5. It was really a nice place and the kids loved seeing all the animals (raccoons, monkeys etc.) And it is perfect, that the resort have their own Mayaruins and Cenote. - Aqua land: 2-3. It was closed 5 out of 9 days. It was not 5 days in a row, and it was not possible to get to know when i was open or closed. The good thing was, that they were renovating(painting waterslides) so it should be better in the future! Waterslides: 5 - The beach: 2 If you rather snorkel it´s a 4. Rocks and stones in the water. It is possible to go to Sandos Playcar and use the beach (and resort). The beach in Playacar is perfect. - Activities in the resort: 5. There are a lot of different things to do. (feeding animals, swimming in "river" or Cenote and much more) - Wifi: 4. We had good wifi allmost all over the resort. - Staff: 5 so freindly and helpfull. The resort it very nice, but there are a lot of importent things that are not functioning very well, which was the reason, that our experience/stay was not very good.

I will start with the OK stuff… Resort grounds and animals. Lots of them which I loved. RE room is was good and spacious. Beach ok (much better beaches elsewhere) The bad was pretty much everything else! Check in was over an hour queue even though we checked in online. Delay due to prebooked taxi not available at the airport after a 10hr flight with young kids so the check in delay was awful. Kids starving but then became too tired for food which was good cos all the restaurants had closed by the time we got our brackets. Next day we joined a 2hr queue to book the Brasilian and Japanese restaurants. Only got one of those for our last night. Other restaurants had to be booked at midnight on their app but that was pot luck if you got a reservation. LONG queues for the buffets (unless you got up early/ went for dinner early). Food was average at best and we got food poisoning. Saw others being sick round the pool. The waiters in the restaurants were dire-they didn’t get us drinks even after been asked politely several times. All in all a terrible resort which has a lot of potential and should be great. It takes a lot of effort to be this bad! Dont waste your precious holiday time/money AVOID IT!!!!

We chose to do the time share sales presentation. Our representative Antonio was very kind and playful with our five year old daughter, singing songs and making sure she was having a nice time as we toured the royal elite section. As a gift for doing this presentation, we received two massages at the spa which were excellent, a beach bucket for our daughter and thermoses which came in handy at the smoothy bar.
