The 5-star Occidental at Xcaret Destination in Riviera Maya is a perfect combination in a natural setting with preserved cultural landmarks and an all-inclusive resort with a unique array of rooms, services, and state-of-the-art facilities. Choosing among the many possible activities is the most complicated part of a stay at this resort in Playa del Carmen. Swimming with dolphins, attending a Mayan Indian ceremony, enjoying all types of water sports at the beach club or sailing down the beautiful rivers and canals that surround the hotel are just a few highlights. The Xcaret eco-archeological park offers one of the most unique and exciting park, especially for families, by guaranteeing over 40 cultural attractions and expositions on art and traditions in Mexico. However, as people normally say at the hotel: "Do it all...or simply do nothing." Choose from a list of diverse activities such as strolling through the lush gardens at the resort, enjoying the sun while lying on a hammock, or taking a refreshing swim in one of the resort's five pools or private beach. Anti-stress remedies at the resort are endless. Regardless of how you plan each day at the resort, the hotel's choice of culinary selections is designed to satisfy the demands of every kind of guest. With 10 bars, including the one at the club, and 11 restaurants, guests have the freedom to choose a snack, an informal meal, a gourmet feast or a candlelight dinner, among many other options. The key to this resort is balancing between modern facilities and the marvelous Mexican rainforest that is filled with stunning local wildlife. Entertainment, relaxation and nature coexist at the Occidental at Xcaret Destination.

This is our 4th time at this hotel as we have loved our past experience. We were super exited to come back again however it did not last long.... I will start with positive. Staff: The bar tenders and other stuff has been helpful and amazing the whole time! Hugo, Javier, Martin and Sebastian at the first club bars have been amazing! Some of them I remember from my previous trips and they have always have been great! Ramon from Snack BAR. Fausto from first club also amazing and helpful. Unfortunately this is the only positive experience we had this trip... Now on to negatives: Food: First 5 days was horrible... then quality went up but this could be due to owner that was visiting the resort. This has lasted for about 8 days and went down hill again on the last 2 days of the stay. On the last day of our stay, resort had health inspection on site and you could not find anything to eat at all! Every one was in such a panic to get everything cleaned up and most of the items that are available hidden it was kind of scary... Also we have booked a seafood restaurant one day which was located at the Beach Club the first week we were there but it was moved to Snack Bar area without letting people know.. and it wasnt just us. Alcohol: Man oh man did it go down... and I mean in a very bad scary way. We are the First Club members and get access to premium liquor that we normally drink here in Canada, however not every bottle had what it is suppose to be in there and I mean Im not talking about it being diluted.... Im talking straight up poison... At first I though I was just delusional and me feeling weird sick was just from too much drinking, but one day wife and I were at the bar and ordered 2 tequilas. Wife shot was poured from one bottle as it became empty and mine came from a brand new one. Same tequila brand and type but both shots were different color. Out of curiosity I still had it and it made me super sick just the way I was feeling before. With that said, I dont think its hotels thats doing it as each new bottle has been sealed well but maybe where they are buying it from. Stuff like that is looking for someone serious consequence with someone drinking it and not waking up the next day. Property/Room: Have seen some serious degradation compare to 2 years ago. Issues with the room although we are members and have 1 bd suit Sleep: Some of the maintenance folks would start using blower sometimes at 7am. Entertainment: Club / Sports Bar / Disco were close

Hotel's Favourite
We just returned from an 8 day stay at the Occidental. A few things that stood out were the amazing facilities, you really can’t beat the lagoon beach for kids and adults alike, and the pool options were great. We also loved how the hotel mixed jungle and the beach. We had monkeys on our balcony and saw an abundance of wildlife on resort trails, which made it a unique experience for an all inclusive that stands out from your typical Playa del Carmen resort. The staff at the restaurants (particularly the Mediterranean restaurant), the servers by the beach and pool, and the shuttle drivers around the resort (shout out to Moses) were all lovely. Thank you so much for making our stay more enjoyable. We loved the optional on site photographers that took family photos of us on the beach and with different animals around the resort. My daughter looked forward to “monkey photo day” or “parrot day”. The photographers were in no way pushy to take or purchase photos, and they made the photo shoots really fun for my daughter. They turned into some of our favorite photos from the trip. The proximity to the Xcaret park was such a treat. We loved the boats that take you in and out of the park. Also, don’t miss out on the excursion to Xel Ha. It was amazing! There is SO much for families to do at the Xcaret parks, we are already looking forward to returning. We did not care for the lack of lunch and breakfast options. Two meals out of the day had to be at the buffet. I really wish they would at least offer lunch at some of the restaurants. Additionally, after eating at the buffet all day...we struggled to get a table at any of the restaurants during several nights at the resort, and were forced to eat dinner at the buffet. Also, the gym closing at 4 was highly inconvenient. I couldn’t get one work out in during my stay just due to the poor hours. Finally, the resort did an excellent job with covid precautions, and really made us feel safe. We also appreciated the on site covid test to get home.

2nd time here, was here 3 years ago and not as good. I did a full 30 minute review of hotel on YouTube 3 years ago,but it has changed. Nothing to do in the evening. No shows, sports bar closed up, night club closed. Men now must wear pants at every dinner restaurant, so bring pants. No reservations needed but still hard to get into dinner. Very slow and understaffed. At the oriental restaurant, the host was very rude and for 3 nights would not let us have dinner, he said he was full as soon as he opened. Finally I got mad and he got us in but was rushing everyone out by starring and pacing at everyone. They also had better liquor 3 years ago that I put in my review. There is friendly and helpful people working there. Our concierge was on of the best part of our vacation, Jack Foakes, he was very friendly and happy and very helpful. Without workers like Jack our vacation would have been terrible. We also had a transportation driver around the resort names Moses, he was very happy and nice and helpful. I hope this hotel turns it around because it is a nice hotel with access to Xcaret Park as you can see in my YouTube video if you search occidental Xcaret full hotel review from almost 3 years ago. I know alot of hotels is using the covid for there excuse but we travel alot and alot are doing better.

Best food in the hotel and the customer service was amazing here. Angeles and Donaciano are excellent. I think I saw them at other restaurants too, so you’ll get great service anywhere you go. Buffet food is bland at the hotel so it was a treat to come here and get something tasty. The dragon roll, Kung pao shrimp, general chicken tso, all good stuff.
