Not only is the hotel in disrepair but downright dangerous with ( police tape) holding the railings together on the top floor. The non functional elevator serves as a rat habitat. The bed bugs are amazing and long lasting fun on your feet and ankles weeks after our stay is over. The pool which looks amazing is only 15 inches deep, 20x12 feet. Lastly "the crème de la crème" is that the hotel manager (Miss YASURI) knowingly gave us a defective lock for the room safe. Then again knowingly upgraded us to the top floor which was the "only room" that did not have a direct line of site from the pool as well as the only floor without updated and functioning cameras so no evidence of the crime that occured three days later. The thieves (thief) then opened the door to the room with a key (no break in at all) to have at the room to rob while we were only 50 feet away one floor below at the baby pool. The view again obstructed by the non functional elevator. They robbed us of over $40 thousand in cash and jewelry as well as devastating loss of jewelry from my wifes deceased grandmother that cannot be replaced. Of course insurance does not cover anything in Mexico wonder why as well. This was Totally an inside job from day one when they saw my wife and I with our expensive watches, jewelry and carrying her Gucci purse. "They saw us coming" Stupid on our part but we have traveled the world for decades and have never had any issues. Live and learn. So to finish the trip I wasted half a day of our last day at the (fiscaleria) DA's office filling forms out and talking to the Police (that came immediately after we learned of the crime). Their recomendations where to make sure we pay all of the bribes otherwise the investigation will not occur. Unfortunately they made away with all of our cash and credit cards so no bribes could be paid if that would have even helped. So we ahve been home now for a month and nothing has happened and hotel management has kept in contact because I continually reach out daily waiting for the police to show up knowing that we had no money and could not pay the bribes necessary for the investigation. Of course the thieves were nice enough to leave licenses and passports so we could leave the country the next day. Although in hindsight very smart so we didnt have to stay any longer to create a bigger scene in the front office than necessary. I am spanish Itaian and know the language very well and if given time would have gone the 90 minute drive to the american embasy but had no money for even a bus ride. I have continued to harrass the general manager Lucas who seems like he cares but knows that nothing will happen without me being there so he probably laughs every day knowing that they all split the proceeds of the heist. Without payouts for the legal system nothing will happen im sure of it.

It is absolutely mind boggling that this " So Called Hotel"is still listed on every 3rd party platform !!!!! THEY ARE THIEVES !!!!!!!!!! The only thing guarneteed is that "YOU WILL BE ROBBED " and then you will be up all night thinking about which one of these employees did it , because Senor Frogs is your neighbor and they shut down at exactly 3am.!!!!!! Every other review is that someone was robbed !!!!! They took the contnets of our safe !!! All cash, jewelry , purse, and car keys with fobs. To make it even better .... THEY STOLE BOTH SETS!!!! I am 3 weeks in waiting for new keys to be laser cut in England and the car reprogrammed !!!! And I get to pay 1400.00 JUST FOR THE FOBS !!!!!!!! At what point will you deem it UNSAFE !!!!! The first attempt they did not realize I was in the room. So brilliantly had a small folded towel in his hand as his decoy , just in case someone was in the room. They staff was the most callus , unsimpathetic group of employees I have ever met !!!! The only think that is guarenteed is you will get to waste a full useless day at the police station , basically for no reason at all !!!!!!!! Oh and throw your suitcases away and your clothes once you are home. Then make a Dr's appointment for antibiotics from all of the bed bug bites!!!

I have traveled all of the World and always read reviews before booking! I was so confused upon arrival to actually see the property ! I felt like they really used an amazing filter for the website pictures. The pool is 2 feet deep. Two if the 8 lounge chairs provided were broken . The elevator is non functional collection of trash and cleaning supplies. There is NO restaurant on site. No blankets and 2 towels. No snack Bar . Pool Bar ….no snack bar ….no bartender….. Continental breakfast 2 blocks always and they want to sell you a time share. That’s all fine and we knew we would still make it fun and had a great story when we got back . The part that was the most upsetting was coming in from the pool and opening our safe to being completely cleaned out ! All of our cash wallet, purse, all jewelry …and both sets of car keys ! Staff was less than helpful and there was not communication problems , my husband is bilingual. Two wasted days at the police station in order to get a police report to have the video footage released…coincidentally the camera aimed at our room was the only none functioning camera.

Do NOT waste your money on this place. It is located right across from the extreamely noicy bare ‘Senor Frog’. It was impossible to get any sleep here because of the extreme noice. And this is NOT mentioned anywhere on Hotels.com or their website. Also the place is worn down and dirty. I changed my room 3 times in one night. All 3 rooms had dirty/stained bedlinen/towels - very disgusting. It was dirty and does absolutely not categorize as a 3/4 star hotel in any way, shape or form. One of the rooms i changed to smelled so bad of either mold or pee..or a combination of both… We had booked 1 week in this place through hotels.com and unfortunately the hotel was not willing to refund our stay although they promise a totally different experience on hotels.com. We checked out after one night and tried to get a refund wich the hotel refused. So we basically wasted our money. The standard of this hotel is VERY low and you dont want to waste your money here. Breakfast is included - but dont get fooled by this either. The breakfast is the most basic you can imagine and you have to go to another location for this. If you want a good vacation in Playa Del Carmen do NOT go to this hotel.

We reserved the hotel for 4 days, the rooms were nothing compared to the photos online, they were very filthy and smelt old. The ac weren’t working well and the safe was broken so we weren’t able to use it. The complimentary breakfast is only toast and coffee. My mother’s room was robbed while we went swimming on the rooftop pool, which the depth was no more than 3 ft; and our report was not taken into serious consideration. Sadly because of the robbery we were unable to find another hotel. Honestly not recommendable at all. Also we were so busy with resolving the theft we didn’t think of taking any pictures of the rooms.

This was a very inexpensive hotel in a great location. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bed was large and comfortable. For the price, it's a very good value. Our room itself was quite strange. No table at all, one dining chair in the corner. Light switches in odd places and a single step up into the bathroom. There was a TV on the wall, but we never turned it on. Fan and AC worked well, but the AC would emit an odd smell every once in a while during the night. Probably from the duct it was attached to, but that's just a guess. If price is your main concern, you'll be fine.

Horrible service; they had a dirty looking crappy towel, and no blanket on the bed, no chair, table or mini fridge in the room. We asked for a blanket and towels and 4 hours later around 10:30 pm they said they didn’t have any towels or blanket,,, pictures online don’t match. Also they had a white curtain and a bright light ON all night right outside , the whole room was lighted up all night.. we left the next morning and they didn’t want to give the refund of $437 that we had paid in advance for 4 nights

I wanted to give this place five stars because I've stayed here before. They have gone downhill since my last stay. Very disappointed. The beds are super hard, and there was no water one day. We had to ask for extra towels daily, and the ones they gave us were super dingy. Bring an extra blanket or sheet because they don't have extras to give you if needed. If you are on a budget and don't mind super basic, then you may fare well. The location is PERFECT if you don't mind the loud club noise. The beach is right there, and shopping on 5th Avenue is steps away. Also just remembered that I need to mention the elevator doesn't work. So if you can't do steps or traveling with someone elderly, this is not the place. The entire week we were there did not see one person or company come in even to attempt to fix the elevator. Not a good place to stay at all. Trust me!!!!

We arrived on November 19 and our plan was to stay one week. Due to weather in Canada and weather in Mexico we did not arrive till after midnight on November 20. We were greeted by a very pleasant person whose name was Facundo. He showed us our room, and although it was not what we had imagined, it had a bed a fridge and a television. The next morning we tried to set up our room however, there was not a table or chair to put our stuff on. That evening there was a tropical storm, and the power was out for several hours, which gave us time to relax . I spoke to the next concierge, whose name was Leonardo and I asked him if it would be possible to get a room with a little bit more furniture in it, like a chair, and/or a table .He said he would work on it. The following day I spoke to him about it, and he gave us quite a nice room .We were extremely grateful. We are a senior couple and we are here in Mexico for several months and had more luggage, possibly then a traditional tourist might have. I would say the only issue was that internet/wi-fi was TERRIBLE . As a result, we were unable to watch the television. I spoke to Leonardo about it, and he said that he had to get it serviced. Today is one week later Saturday the 26th and we are checking out and the TV does not work to this day. The wi-fi remained very poor where our room was situated . Breakfast was at hotel energy since illusion boutique does not have the facilities for breakfast. The included breakfast was eggs and toast and coffee and juice, which was adequate. The staff providing the food were very friendly. Proximity to the beach was a super plus and our beach was very nice ,sandy and without a lot of people on it, the exception being weekends, My final comment is that you do need earplugs of some sort at night time, because the music is extremely loud meaning that the vibration was extreme and most nights the music went until 3 AM, be prepared for that !!! All in all, a very relaxing experience throughout the day with our own little paradise next to the pool, the pool, being maybe 2 to 3 feet deep, but cleaned every morning. Thank you to Rosa, who cleaned our room, Facundo and Leonardo, who made our stay very pleasurable. Thank you.

AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS! The cleaning/maintenance staff will steal your items! We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and I had some very expensive headphones stolen from inside my work luggage. One of the cleaning/maintenance workers intentionally opened my work luggage while they were cleaning the room and STOLE a pair of very expensive headphones. The day we arrived the A/C was not even turned on so the room was steaming hot when we arrived, it took a couple of hours for the A/C to fully ventilate the room with cold air. The check in process was an absolute joke. It took the receptionist almost an entire hour to find our reservation even though we reserved the room months in advance. I could go and on but I wanted to keep this review short and to the point! Stay away from this hotel!!
