An oceanfront resort located on a privileged stretch of white sand, facing the turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean and surrounded by the energy and excitement of La Quinta Avenida - Fifth Avenue - , Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen brings guests to an intimate introduction of the Bohemian vibe of Playa del Carmen, or simply Playa, as it is locally known. With its spectacular architecture, unique outdoor dining concepts and our signature food and beverage author recipes, mixed with local flavors and fresh ingredients of the region for a memorable gastronomic experience. Located inside we find the Paseo, a large open air corridor that connects the entrance of the hotel all the way down to its iconic infinity pools, ending with its breathtaking white sanded beach and majestic turquoise waters for our guests to relax. Our two restaurants and bar are our own extension of the vibrant offerings of La Quinta Avenida.

My husband and I booked massages for our two year anniversary. Our massages were amazing and a perfect addition to our romantic vacation. Our massage therapists did an amazing job and we enjoyed our time at the Cenote spa. We feel extremely relaxed! We ate several fire rolls and drank smoky tamarins at the sushi restaurant afterward. We highly recommend visiting the sushi restaurant at the hotel. Lauro provided us with fantastic service and was extremely attentive to our order. We’ve tried a lot of sushi rolls in California, but the fire sushi roll is the best sushi roll by any standard.

Great experience. Big room, great food and service (shout out to Lauro at the raw bar) and perfect location. We were able to walk to all the restaurants on 5th Avenue. Also, Club Room was great for breakfast and coffee. Wish they had a hot tub that wasn’t $50/person to use but that’s a minor complaint.

Overall this hotel is fine. It’s very clean and modern to the point it feels sterile and a bit impersonal— you could pick the hotel up and place it any where. For the amount of guests the pool and beach are just not enough and overcrowded. The beach is very small— maybe 15 feet of sand total— and senior frogs is next door blasting music and screaming for shots constantly. If you like a quiet room make sure to stay away from this south area. The hotel is one block from the main 5th Ave drag so if you want to be close to that scene it works well. This hotel is perfect for the party set but if traveling with family, or want something with a bit more flavor head elsewhere.

The Grand Hyatt Playa Del Carmen Resort hit on all cylinders. Staff was helpful the atmosphere was serene and the amenities were top notch. The Grill was a great food experience , the bar by the pool was noteworthy. I would definitely recommend friends and family to stay at the GHPDCR.

This hotel is bizarre. It’s very beautiful, but also terrible. The strangest thing is that they do not provide hand soap in the bathrooms! Any of the rooms!! Apparently if you ask they will provide it? The service is awful. There is a dark cloud over the staff, they are clearly unhappy to be here. They will make promises and then not follow through - for example they told both myself and a friend that they would email us once our rooms were ready, but no emails arrived. There is no comraderie amongst the staff, everyone has a miserable look on their faces. The food is ok and very expensive - many good restaurants surround the hotel, I would recommend eating out. The drinks are inconsistent and mediocre. Very all-inclusive tasting, and no innovative cocktails. There is a large bar in the main lobby area with no drink menu!! The beach is small and unappealing. I only came here to meet a friend that was already staying here. I would never have chosen it as it is very expensive and the beach is not really useable. I was expecting a level of service and quality that is not present here. Also - there is no hot tub! You can only access it through the spa, where they require 950 pesos to go. Ridiculous!!

You pay per person, not per room. Over $100 per person per day for breakfast that was never communicated and was never used. Construction happening so noise level was high. Service was terrible and took hours to get something. No hair dryer in room for this price. No mini fridge for kids. Limited and poor quality food options. On site restaurant took 2 hours for service and we were the only ones in there. Would not recommend!

Never again. This hotel markets itself as a luxury experience, but management is making decisions that make it significantly less than luxurious. We booked this break as a grief trip after a recent bereavement, and hoped that we’d get the peace we needed to heal. What a bitter disappointment. At the weekend, the hotel is partially overtaken by huge wedding parties, which mean that large areas of the property - including many of the swimming pools - are not available to other guests. Then one of the remaining pools unaffected - the adult pool - is set up in the middle of the afternoon, for a raucous game of water polo, and kids are allowed to participate, without seemingly any power on the part of the staff, to stop them from shouting, splashing guests, hitting them with their own balls and generally shattering everybody’s peace. I witnessed many people who had paid a lot of money to rent the adult poolside cabanas being treated without a shred of respect or courtesy by the kids and the adults playing water polo. Many of them just got up and left. We had to complain five times before security intervened and shut down the chaos and inconvenience one afternoon. I get it - of course the kids should have their fun, but who made the idiotic decision to set this up in the adult pool? It wasn’t the fault of the staff - they were very courteous and helpful, but were hamstrung by management’s absurd decision making. The Sunday we were there was the absolute pits. A huge wedding took place, that meant around 50% of the pools area was off-limits. To make things even worse, a Super Bowl party was set up right next to the wedding, right at the heart of the hotel. Cue hours - going on until the small hours - of drunken screaming, shouting and singing, audible throughout the entire hotel. The cacophony of the amplified wedding music and the shrieking sports fans was horrendous. If that had been my wedding, I’d have been livid. And of course, as everybody else has reported, the adult pool and adjacent rooms, have the pounding music from the immediately adjacent day club next door, to contend with. It all boils down to the fact that if the hotel wants to stage large events like this, they need to have adequate space away from the main hotel, so that guests aren’t inconvenienced this way. This hotel simply doesn’t have the space to do that. As many other reviewers have mentioned, the food and beverages are eye-wateringly overpriced. Management seems to be living in some sort of alternative universe, because the net result is that there is little patronage of the hotel’s three restaurants, except for guests who have paid for some kind of meal scheme. Like most, we voted with our feet and ate well just down the road, for considerably less. If they priced food more reasonably, people would eat in the restaurants more. Plus it’s hard to justify these prices, when the atmosphere at the hotel far too often resembles, and sounds like, a rowdy frat house party. Nickeling and dining the guest also extends to the rooms; we booked a king room, which purported to sleep up to four people - we were three. Yes they bought a cot into the room, but we were charged $35 per night extra for this. I don’t mind paying, but for goodness sake, why conceal this charge at the time of booking? It’s a shame, because the service we had was overall very good, but staff are being let down by dubious and nonsensical management policies. Whoever is in charge of running this hotel needs to research and visit high end resorts in the locale, and compare and contrast what those properties are getting right, with their own misguided interpretation of luxury. The pity of it is, that my daughter has stayed at this property twice before in the last decade, and had a very positive experience both times. This time, she was mortified by the sub-par reality of our stay. Hell would freeze over before I stay in this property again, so please don’t respond with the usual cut and paste bland spiel along the lines of how much you value us as guests and hope we give you another chance to put things right, blah, blah, blah. Too late - you blew it.

Not what you would expect from a Hyatt. We had a swim up room, no extra pool towels, no robe included. 1 coffee cup in the room the entire week after asking multiple times for a second. But not that this matters seeing as how they will only allow 1 coffee pod of each flavor at a time. If you both want dark roast… go buy their $17 coffee down stairs. Room service was terrible. 2 different days our room was not cleaned by 4:00 when we wanted to come back and get ready for our evening. Each day we left on our “please make up room light”. We called for towel service and didn’t receive it by the time we gave up 4 hours later. 1 day they never made up our room and 1 day they came in while we were there to do it. The vanity lights didn’t work. The furniture was old and tattered. Shower floor/wall seal was molded terribly. The fan and bedside light didn’t work one night. We called for ice multiple times and never received it. Other times it would take an hour or so. BE PREPARED, it is not an all inclusive… a well margarita is $22 and takes like premade syrup… the food was a joke and CRAZY expensive. $32 for breakfast buffet that doesn’t have any meat was a bit odd. The location is AMAZING but there are other resorts right there that are much better. (We visited them) They did come in and fix the fan and light. The bed was comfortable enough. Not what you would expect at a Hyatt brand hotel. We have stayed at others in Mexico and were VERY pleased but this one… NOT THIS ONE!
