All of the staff at the Grand Riviera Princess are incredibly hard working. While everyone was amazing there were some experiences that really stood out. Rodolfo and Ivan at Miso Teppanyaki went above and beyond not only to entertain but to meet all of our dietary requirements Pedro and Carlos at La Hacienda gave such great service , so friendly and professional Ady was our server at the Villas pool, she took such great care of us all week Alexander , concierge at Platinum , worked so hard to get us reservations

Lovely resort! My wife and I stayed for a week in the Platinum at Grand Riveria Princess/Sunset. the "Welcome" We were disappointed with the welcome we received. Platinum guests are to be taken to a platinum check-in location, but it was closed due to a lack of staff (this is a recurring theme), and receive a welcome cocktail (we didn't get one). Instead we had a 20 minute wait at the main front desk to check in. We then walked to the shuttle area to be taken to our building, but were told it would at least a 10 minute wait for a shuttle. So after waiting for airport transport for 30 minutes, and check in for 20 minutes, we were tired of waiting - so we just walked. It is .75 of a KM from the front desk to the platinum buildings near the beach - which was fine, but far from the Platinum experience we were expecting. This is such an opportunity for a resort to make a 'forever experience' with a guest - so we were quite surprised with the lack of attention to it. the Room The room was exactly as pictured on their website. It was clean, and the bed was medium firm with great linens. The room temp was very controllable, and it was incredibly quiet - we were surprised just how quiet it was for the evenings, and nights. The minbar is stocked daily, and included four bottles of water, four Corona beer, and one of each of coke, orange Fanta and Sprite. The balcony is a very good size, and includes a soaker tub (while we didn't try it, it didn't look very appealing). Cleaning staff were prompt and did a great job. Overall room experience was 5 stars. the Food We ate breakfast and lunch in the Platinum buffets. Food was very good quality and there were lots of options. Wait times for a custom offering (omelette in the morning, etc.) were not bad. They routinely ran out of some main items (eg. French fries at lunch), but were pretty quick to replace. Staff are all friendly and efficient - they are incredibly hard working, but frankly there just isn't enough of them. There were times at breakfast that we could only see two or three staff working the tables. It wasn't uncommon that after waiting until we were finished our meals that we finally walked over to a staffing station to get coffee (not that I am lazy, but it is supposed to be table service). I felt bad for the staff - they were incredibly hard working. Maybe a carry-over from COVID - not sure if there are staffing shortages generally, but this is a resort management issue, not a staff issue. We ate one dinner in one of the two main buffet restaurants. Comments from above apply to this experience also, but I would add that it was incredibly noisy. These rooms are very large, they are closed in (not open air spaces like many resorts), and are tile floors and glass walls - so the sounds are all echoing - when it is filled with people it was simply hard to take. We only ate one meal there. We ate in the Mexican, Sushi, Thai and Italian a la Carte restaurants. The Mexican was the best of all of them, with a close second being the Italian. Both were quieter, had great menus, great service and the food was excellent. The Sushi was the worst, and we were disappointed. We both love sushi, and with such incredible access to fresh fish we were surprised with how disappointing it was. We were really pressed to have their "sampler", despite being very experienced with ordering sushi we agreed (don't do it). They started by bring us a spring roll appetizer - which we didn't order. It was heavy and greasy - and I only ate a little because I wanted to each fresh raw fish. The sample arrived, and it included a lot of assorted rolls on a platter (one platter per person), one shared platter of assorted Nigiri and one shared platter of assorted Sashimi. The Sashimi platter included tuna, salmon, scallop and one other white fish that I can't recall. It was delicious. The Nigiri was very light on fish and VERY heavy on rice. The rice was not fresh, was tightly packed and was overly sweetened. The rolls echo the Nigiri - way too much rice, and hard packed - I ate only one piece out of probably 12-15 they gave us. I HATE to waist food, but I just couldn't eat these tight rice packs. The unrequested appetizer, and excess rice is clearly to lower the consumption of the more expensive fish - but it is a sushi restaurant! The other issue with the Sushi restaurant is that it shares a space with the Tepanyaki restaurant - which as one would expect, is incredibly loud. Constant cheering, shouting and applause from people that have been drinking all day. I completely understand this experience - but we had not chosen Tepanyaki for this very reason, yet here we were in the Sush restaurant 20 feet from a Tepanyaki table. We ate two dinners at the "Chill-Out" restaurant on the beach. This is not included in the all-inclusive, and is a little pricy. The food was incredible and worth the extra cost. My Wife enjoyed various fresh fish options, and I had steak both nights. Eating a single meal there gave you access to use their exclusive beach area in front of the restaurant, and it is really the best area to enjoy the beach - so worth it to start your stay with a meal, and have access for the rest of your stay. The only criticism I would have of them is that they are quite pushy with the wine menu. The 'house' wines are included free, but other options on their menu are over-priced, and they really want you to buy a bottle. We purchased a bottle each on our first night, and they kept the second half of each bottle for us for our second night - which worked out great for us, but when we were finished the wine on the second night we had the same waiter come three separate times to press us to buy a third bottle - I was in the process of standing up to insist he leave us alone when he finally got the message. They are clearly financially motivated to sell these higher margin items - and I understand the business side of that - but it is too much. the Staff We were continuously impressed by the staff (comment re wine sales aside). Everyone was friendly, warm and welcoming. They asked us about ourselves - wished us a lovely vacation - asked if there was anything they could do to make our day better, etc. They are so hard working - incredibly busy, and when there was a wait they were apologetic (even though it was not their fault). We would put out a special mention for two of their staff that made the biggest impressions: Humberto from the Platinum Princess bar was there early each day, making us capaccino's each morning with a smile and warm greeting, and all afternoon offering snacks and drinks. Raquel from the Chill-Out Restaurant & Bar - she was simply incredible. We spent almost every afternoon on the beach there, and every day she had a warm greeting with a big smile, and took care of us. She always knew our drink preferences, brought bottled water and fresh ice without asking, and we really felt we were taken care of. Incredible. the Grounds The grounds are beautiful, and well maintained. There is wildlife walking all over, which was charming and not an issue. We didn't use the pools, but they seemed to have all options for your preference of quiet to party time. Our building had a small private pool that was great for lap swimming. the Beach The beach is incredible. There are lots of resorts in the area that have largely lost their beach due to erosion - so do your homework. The beaches are large, well maintained and there are lots of seating options. It was generally safe for us to swim, with only one day where the wind had them put out the red flags. Tons of options for activities if you are interested. overall we were very pleased with our choice. We would return, and would now know all the tips to enjoy our stay!

We had a nice time. Bummer that the family pool was closed for the better part of our week there. Pirate buffet didn’t see a lot of action it seems, so the food was often cold. But great staff. Our server (in the one main buffet), Alvaro Pacheco was a highlight. He made an extra effort and our young daughter really loved him. Thanks, Alvaro! The photographer (Rodolfo?) was also excellent!

We were there in February when it was Winter Break . As the hotel was at 98% occupancy, my review will be different than if there was a lower occupancy. Check in was easy but we took a private transfer so there were no large lines that a busload would provide. The resort is on the larger side, about a 15 minute walk from the front lobby to the beach. It is very beautifully landscaped and lots to enjoy along the walk If you are in a hurry, it is definitely shorter to take the covered walkways along the rooms. The restaurants are subjective and each one varies in quality from night to night. One night the food was okay and another night, it was very good. Razil at Mama Mia's is a phenomenal waiter, a true professional. The reservation system is underwhelming as it can be confusing on when to make the reservations on the app. Tables are released in both the morning and evening. That being said, we were a group of 8 and were always able to sit together. The Chill Out is charming but we chose not to take advantage of it. Their beach area is at the end of the resort and not very crowded. The lounges were padded and looked confortable. As they resort was selling Platinum packages upon check in, the Platinum beach area was very crowded and the chair game started early in the am. Some people who had paid for Platinum in advance were irritated that they were unable to secure a place on the beach. We also had a lounge chair taken while we were at the beach bbq for lunch. We had left our things on it and some jerk placed them on another chair and moved the lounge we were using. The towel game is also at the pool if you want a palapa. However, there are so many pools, there are always lounge chairs available. We enjoyed our stay at this resort as the service is amazing and the staff so friendly. The rooms are large and very well appointed. Some of our group stayed in the Family Club and liked the location convenience and of course, the ice cream parlor. The water park was perfect for the 2 year old but the 8 year olds preferred the other pools. The lines can get long for the taco and hamburgers stations but they are worth it and do move quickly. The lines for drinks can also get long but part of that is because each drink is invidivually blended. The pool bar is busy but the bartenders are very efficient and know who is next in line to be served. BTW, try the mango margarita with the tamarind rim. So good. We enjoyed our vacay there and will most likely return. Our only real disappointment was the lack of tipping to the friendly and hard working staff by many of the guests.

Rooms well appointed, beach nice, lots of wildlife to enjoy. The a la carte restaurants all serve delicious food with excellent and friendly staff. Staff over all very friendly and do their bests. Cesar at the Steak Restaurant was very good. My only complaint was the beach breakfast Buffet was crazy busy so it’s worth walking up to the main Buffett. Great selection at the night time buffets. You get lots of steps in walking around the resort.

We had the best time at this resort. No complaints at all. Sunshine, beautiful people, and nature. Eduardo at the front of the lobby brought us to our room and gave us top notch service. He will be remembered. All staff at this resort are the most kind and courteous people. Will return.

My wife and I just returned from a lengthy stay at the princess resort. We paid for the Platinum upgrade. This resort promises to give a platinum experience and in reality it gives you a sub-par experience at best. The 1 star is for the room and beach or it would have been a Zero. If you think you’re getting something different than the average guest by purchasing the platinum package YOU ARE MISTAKEN. First they sell the platinum upgrade at the resort for 18 dollars a day WOW, that’s only 220$ less than I paid per person per day. When you arrive you’re told to book your reservation for the restaurants with the app, unfortunately they are all booked for the next 2 days, so buffet it is and that’s like being in an MMA fight. The food at the restaurants are good for resort food if you remember to book it early in the morning or you’ll have to eat at 8:45 or later. If you like to get up at 5:30 in the morning to get a seat on the beach, this is your place. If you like fighting in line for drinks food rides to the lobby, this is your place. I will never recommend or stay at this resort again which is unfortunate because some of the staff were amazing. If you try to complain to a manager about the issue, they don’t have one or they say they’re the manager but in reality you get someone with zero ability to do anything about the issue…. The photo below shows the difference in regular room price and platinum.. this is not worth it.

We have enjoyed many all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and this ranks as one of the worst. I do extensive research to find a great resort with a reasonable price. This place seemed to fit the bill although their trip advisor reviews are all over the place. The hotel is gigantic with a 1990s look, and not in a good way. Many fountains were not working, tons of concrete, brown water in the fountain areas and the place's feel was rundown. Our room was very dated and there was major upkeep and cleaning that was needed, especially on the outdoor balcony area. We liked the strong AC and the bed was comfortable. The monkeys and deer are cute. The coaties are aggressive and will steal food. It is a huge walk from hotel rooms to the beach. The beach itself is OK but crowded and the jet skis were super loud and smelly. Thankfully the food was pretty good. Lots of choices at the buffet and enjoyed the Sports bar for drinks and food. A huge problem is no availability for the ala carte restaurants. We were there for 3 nights and only 1 night was available for an ala carte place (unless you paid $100 for a bottle of wine...and then they would fit you in!) We had no luck approaching the ala carte restaurants for any cancellations or openings when we stopped by to ask. Service was good and we left a tip at every meal or drink. Definitely will not return, Iberostar and Barcelo chains are a much more enjoyable vacation and they are reasonably priced.

Had an amazing time. Only thing the wifi isn’t the best. In some areas you connect very well but most times connecting to the wifi was difficult. The entertainment was fun and amazing! Special shout out to TonyFlow who always ensured guests were engaged and having fun with the activities Food was pretty good! The bars at the beach and the pool had long lines. The lobby bar was probably one of my favourites. Special shout out to Sebastian! You will definitely see lots of wild life which is amazing. This resort is huge so be ready to walk ! Overall we had fun! The resort has a lot of activities for kids. For adults they have activities such as rifle shooting and archery!
