Stopped for a night in Tulum, traveling from Puerto Morelos to Bacalar, and found this great place. We left for a dinner, slept well and had a terrific breakfast. The vibe seemed great. We returned to our room to discover that someone, either during dinner or while we were at breakfast, had stolen my computer. The owner talked with his...

Most hostels have one feature that sets them apart from the rest. While otherwise rather average, I really loved the Weary Traveller's unique selling proposition: free caipirinhas between 6:30 and 7:30! OK, a free cocktail is always nice (and four are even nicer) but what I liked most about this is that it brings people together. Just before 6:30 the...

I spent four nights here. I took a private room as I'm a bit older than most people staying here and I was on a two week holiday rather than a longer adventure. This hostel was a great place for a few days. The free breakfast well surpassed expectations of what you normally get in a hostel. And the free...

We three middle aged British guys are travelling around Quintana Roo, booked ahead from Playa the previous day and arrived after the hour long journey by collectivo (40 each) at 14:00hrs and walked the block to the bright cheerful WTH and into reception. The Colombian receptionist explained that we knew about the fact that we were not in the hostel...

When we first arrived to the check in desk, the hostel was bustling with good vibes. We were really excited about staying here and considered the possibility of staying even longer! Check in was a bit complicated because of our lack of Spanish, but we figured it out with the help of other staff. Once we paid for our rooms...

Fantastic atmosphere for travellers of all ages (rumours have it that other hostels are full of younger travellers). The bar and social area was great for solo travellers to make new friends, free caipirinha hour and also events every night hosted by the hostel. Perfect for making friends and very centrally located in Tulum town.

Contrary to some of the reviews below I had a great time staying at the weary traveler. I stayed at a fanned dorm, and the bed was good, the pillow heavy (bigger than some I've seen before) and the blanket enough cover for the usually warm nights (which are quiet enough due to it being situated just off the main...

This hostel has a chilled backpacker vibe, with awesome free breakfast that you can make yourself and free cocktails in the evening, with occasional salsa classes and other activities. In the evening it's full of people chatting and definitely a place to make friends. We stayed in a room which was clean, but the bathroom was sort of in the...

We stayed here because there was nothing else available. My first 1 star. This might be great for backpackers and remote year workers, but it's disgusting and comparatively expensive. And with a dead fledgling pigeon outside one of the rooms for two days until I told the staff about it. There were lots of pigeons on the second floor room...

Family? Band of heathens is more like it. I suspect one of the little monsters of killing that poor baby bird. I am amazed that one of them did not eat it. Please do me a favor. The next time there is no place else to stay...stay some place else!

I had booked 5 nights 3 months in advance via booking.com. Turns out i was paying double the price to everyone else and the owner refused to lower the price. The bedroom was horrid...matttress was full of staines. Instead of a sheet I had this weird sheet thing attached to the pillow case that was obviously used to save costs...

This is a hoot! This gentleman was asked upon checking out if everything was all right and he said, "It was great, I am just following this piece of tail to another hostel." Now, I personally do not agree with referring to a woman in such fashion, but I suppose that among the lower classes and less educated it is...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Weary Traveler Hostel Tulum was started by backpackers for backpackers back in the year 2000. The hostel was built around what they themselves wanted to find in a good hostel when they were traveling. A good social vibe A book exchange A bar with backpacker prices Communal Kitchen (loaded with free spices, salt, pepper) Full Cook Your Own Breakfast Free Rice, Pasta and lentils for dinner Good Advice on Tours and Activities Some aspects of the Weary Traveler Hostel Tulum appear to be unique but they are not. Many of them came from other hostels where we had stayed long before we dreamed of opening a hostel in Tulum. For example the Burn Your Own BBQ was inspired by the Bondi Beach Hotel's incredible steak barbi setup inside the bar. Huge, beautiful cuts of beef were in a display fridge that was part of the bar. You would say, "Yeah, give me that one!" and huge chunk of raw red meat came at you on a platter. It was your job to cook it how you wanted it. The Weary Traveler Hostel Tulum has changed, evolved, gone back to our roots and changed again and again over the years. We have always tried to evolve as a hostel, stay ahead of the competition and anticipated the changing needs and desires of our guests. So welcome to The Weary Traveler Hostel Tulum, mi casa es su casa! John, one of the originals from way back when. ... more   less
