Villa Stampa stands in a commanding position overlooking the huge and beautiful plain of the Pian' di Marte, seemingly in the middle of nowhere but only twenty minutes from Lake Trasimeno. A vast and ancient building, it has a variety of accommodations of varying size and quality. The owners have done much work in the recent past to bring some conformity to the rooms, and though not all the equipment is 100% and not all the facilities yet work perfectly, nevertheless the place has immense character, stunning views and a wonderful and very well kept swimming pool. The food is pretty good - generous and very authentically local - and the staff are charming, attentive and hard-working. As one who has been there several times over the years, I would say that the potential visitor needs to understand that Villa Stampa is an Agriturismo not a fancy hotel, but its position and its huge charm outweigh one or two shortcomings in creature comfort and sophistication. I stayed in Villa Stampa on a yoga holiday about 12 years ago and loved it. The views are stunning and the old worn character of the place I find delightful. Unfortunately on returning this year with my partner, the weather was poor and the cook was away so they weren't doing evening meals (they had told us this in advance). This disappointed my partner who couldn't initially see why I loved the place. However the old rambling rooms, a change in the weather and friendly staff won him over and he, like me, is a convert. We shall return. Don't expect luxury but old world charm. More

“Rooms in the newer part are probably better equipped. The older part can get hot, and rooms on the piano nobile share a huge balcony.”
