Before you travel here…download the PH app!! Mandatory for access everything at this hotel: booking reservations for dinner & all menus are in the app only! This hotel is on a mountain side and is approximately 30+ minutes from Liberia airport. When you arrive by shuttle, it stop at the security gate, which lets you know that this place is very safe. Once you arrive at the lobby, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. They will tag & take your luggage for you. Have it delivered to your room or you may choose to take it with you to check-in. As you walk through the giant glass doors, you will feel a burst of AC (which is very welcoming) and a refreshing scent that is always throughout the hotel.. Then you walk through velvet partitions to pose in front of the PH logo. After that, you are directed to the check-in counter: all the staff start to applause for your arrival. Because this hotel is on a mountain, it is very steep: so people with mobility issues will have to rely on golf carts to drive you around the resort. We stayed in building 16, which is right in front of the lobby. It is three stories high with 4 units on each floor and has no elevators.
This is a no smoking resort & has one dedicated smoking area on the patio just across from the lobby check-in. The lobby is very nice and music always in the background.
Most restaurants are located in the main lobby building or down by the pool. We loved the teppanyaki dinner & went 2x!! Our chef was Dilan: awesome skills & made it a dinner with a show. You must try!! (East - 3rd floor) We also enjoyed dinner at the Italian restaurant (Gusto - by the pool) : Guy’s Burgers (by the pool) is small but oh so good! : Pub (Overtime - by the stage). The main buffet (So Cal Gourmet Emporium 3rd floor). If you’re unable to book dinner on the app - don’t worry. Go to the restaurant of choice at 6:10 or 7:10 or 8:10 & ask if there is any no-shows/cancellations. We had an awesome sushi dinner on the deck and was able to see the Fire show on the stage below. One night they had a couple perform/sing live by Premiere Bar (lobby) - AMAZING!!
By the pool there is the Entertainment Crew: Hedder & Minor making everyday fun. Taking time to meet guests & knowing our names.

Property, rooms, location, steep hills, small resort, Star Class, specialty restaurants all exactly as advertised. The size of property may be reason for biggest complaints. The poolside burger joint with all outdoor seating was continually being destroyed every afternoon. The ticket orders are typically a 1 hour wait. We actually waited 1 hour 45 minutes for a single item 10 inch pizza, which is completely unacceptable. The only other option in afternoon is to dry off or change clothes and catch shuttle cart to top of hill for buffet location. The morning breakfast buffet on a Saturday morning had a 30 minute wait for table. This breakfast location can probably handle crowds 80% of time but when its busy you have to wait in line. Overall the food is very good at each restaurant the only complaint is not a good amount of fruit is available for a resort. The other issue is the excursion and tour people on beach. This is a very confusing and highly competitive sales market. You will be harassed and propositioned for every activity under the sun. You also have tour sales from resort and from Costco Travel located in the lobby area. Do your research and learn what is available near this property or come to terms with long commute times to tours centrally located in Costa Rica. We booked a very successful half day fishing trip through "Erlan" at the beach, we also booked a full day tour with zip lines, horses, waterslide, and hot pools through the resort provider. I actually have individual review for Erlan from funnytourscostarica.online he was the tour vendor on beach we decided to go with. The cleanliness of resort has room for improvement but to no fault of service staff. Its very frustrating to see resort guests that dont clean up after themselves or have the courtesy to not leave half eaten trays of food at the pool area where the birds and wildlife make a small mess into bigger mess. We also learned that in the month of July the schools in Costa Rica go on 3 week break and the resort became busier with locals arriving for family getaways.

Great Service at this hotel. Clean rooms, good location and nice walking trails. Food is good although not great. If you want to eat at the restaurants would have to use the Star Class to find available appointments. Lobby Bar (Premier) is excellent and great service. The Green Room is nothing impressive as advertised. It has a few bottles of lower shelf liquor and mixers are water, seven up or pepsi. A couple of cold ciabatta sandwiches and pieces of brownies. Nice place to stop and get a bottle of water as it has a desk that they use for private check in service. Our butler was Jordy who was exceptional trying to accomodate all of our needs and requests although she got so busy the last couple of days as it looks that every butler has many clients to take care of. The Star Class pool, bar and snack bar is probably the besy spot. Great drinks prepared by Jeffry and Karolina. They do have the top shelf liquor and you just need to ask, they will look for it and make the drink you' like. The servers are Francis and Indi and they do really make sure that everybody is taken care of with drinks at your chair or poolside and offering you the snack bar food. I was not impressed with the Guy Fieri's place. Just plain hamburgers and nothing especial. You'd be better off getting a hamburger at the Star Class Pool or the buffet. Bottled water available inside the rooms ar at the Green Room, nothing else but they insist that tap water is OK and they have filtered water all over. Maybe nothing that the hotel can do about it, but the beach vendors are too close to the pool offering trips, excursions, motorized, sports, massages, etc. Nothing wrong with it but sometimes they take up too much time insisting in offering their services.

We stayed with our family at Planet Hollywood Costa Rica and our experience was poor. The service is very slow and delayed for any room service requests. The room was not cleaned when we checked in and there were used bottles from earlier guests in the room, plus the wash basin and toilet sink were dirty at the time of check-in. The restaurant food was better than the daily buffet but getting reservation for the restaurants at your desired time through the app was a big struggle. Also, a heads-up on the Guy Fieri's burger joint at the resort, it served mediocre burgers with just the chicken tender and a slice of tomato, no lettuce, no pickle, no onion and no ranch though the menu said LTOP Chicken Burger with Ranch. It was the worst burger I ever had and the chef out there is tarnishing Guy Fieri's brand name by serving such pathetic food. The only good part of our stay was that the resort was close to Liberia airport and good location for visiting Nicaragua and other Costa Rica day trips.

We are currently Staying here between October 12th to 19th 2024 and we are looking forward to heading back home on Saturday.

This hotel has alot to offer with regards to the Costa Rican Atmosphere within a lush tropical forest with Monkies, Iguanas, a vareity of Birds and Wildlife. The rooms are spacious, modern and clean and the property overall is Amazing. Be aware though that the resort is on a steap hill but golf carts whisk you from the lobby, your room and to and from the pool area. Be prepared to climb 15 stories of steap hills to get to where you need to go if you dont want to waite for a golf cart. The property grounds are well maintained which creates a high end Property.

We are looking forward to leaving because of how loud the music is at the pool and beach area which is enough for it to become very hard on the ears. There is no quiet pool option.

Checkin is pure chaos!!! Staff are very un-organized with mounds of paper work, staff jumping qll over the place with "let me check" and dissappear into the back room taking forever to at least find q room that is available. Can they not clean the rooms that have checked out first? Its a long journey here and the last thing we want to deal with is an insane checkin process and pure chaos. The Clapping is just stupid!!!

The Buffet has long lineups to simply get in while at other resorts you just simply walk in.

Service at the resturants is pure chaos. Orders are forgotten, waites are long and staff have no idea what they are doing. Assign staff to tabels please. Gordan Ramsey would loose it here. Food quality is ok with limited options by the pool area.

Bar service also needs improvement as staff are un organized, slow and in many cases. only one bar tender serving 20 or so plus people waiting. The main Swim Up Bar closes too early at 4pm instead of 6pm.... Come on???

Room service frequently gets orders wrong with items ordered missing.

This resort has so much potential. but this is all from the top down!!!! Managenent has alot to do to improve this place. If this property was a Royalton as this is the same company under Marriott, the Atmosphere and service would be much better! Will we come back, the answer is a huge NO!!

I recently traveled to PH Costa Rica June of 2024 through July of 2024. The views were amazing. The friendliness of the staff was outstanding especially Fran who was one of the guys that took part in many activities around the resort and let’s not forget a sweet waitress named Tamara Luis Diego.

The only issue I had was it rained my entire stay aside for one day. And the resort Is fairly small so not much to do before things seem redundant. I would say this is one of the smallest resorts I have stayed at so baecations and small family vacations would be ideal for this location especially if you are looking to be low key.

The monkeys were a nice touch to the property. They were friendly and cute and stayed in their own living space. They were not intrusive at all.

I would recommend the resort investing in outdoor fans especially at the bars to limit the amount of bugs that hover around due to the sweetness of the drinks and fruit. I would also recommend them in the small shops that serve food as well example being the Fuel Coffee shop. Seen a few bugs in the compartment that held the sandwiches and cakes.

But overall my stay was very pleasant and relaxing

We stayed at Planet Hollywood in December 2024. We went on two tours through Frank the Tank CR. Both tours were fantastic. The tour company does not provide towels and Planet Hollywood does not sell towels in their gift shop so we borrowed towels from the pool as our excursions included swimming. On our way out of the hotel we were stopped by security and told we could not bring the towels off property. We spoke to a manager and offered to pay a deposit or rent the towels, but she made a scene in front of the tour group and insisted we pay $50 per towels, non refundable. We agreed to pay the fee for the towels, which were old, discolored and frayed (much like the chairs at the pool), so as not to hold up our tour bus. When we returned to the hotel - with the towels - they refused to refund even a portion of the fee. Others on our tour also had hotel towels and were not stopped by security. This was disappointing, but not unexpected as this all inclusive is not really an all inclusive. There are up charges on everything, you want decent steak at the steak restaurant, you have to pay for it. If you want Corona at the pool, it’s $6. We will not be returning.

We have stayed at a Planet Hollywood property previously in Cancun. The experiences were completely different. This planet Hollywood property in Costa Rica is on a hill so you basically rely on golf cart service to get around. I was a bit worried about that, but the service was fast, friendly, and the drivers were fun! It worked out very well. Minimal wait times.

Food was not good. The buffet was small with limited items. Room Service menu was small and took a long time to get. Restaurants - very difficult to get into. That doesn't leave much for food. The sports bar had decent food.

We had a cabana for a day - that was great. We had amazing service, and it was a nice relaxing way to spend a day with friends.

Almost everyone at this resort got sick - very sick for about 3 days. Visit the medical if this happens to you. Because we visited the medical provider, we were able to get more than 2 waters a day, and they sent up electrolytes, but the paperwork we were supposed to receive at check out so we can get it reimbursed from our trip insurance still hasn't come! Medical facility wasn't the cleanest, but they did help us to feel better. Knowing people were getting sick it seems like the resort could have done more advanced cleaning protocols.

The monkeys were so much fun to watch!
The black sand is warm, but so was the water at the beach - loved it.

There are sales people on the beach...they are super nice, but once you talk to one, you can't talk to any of the others, so recommend watching them for a bit, see which ones seem to fit with you the best before talking to them. We booked a fishing trip with one, and it was successful, fish were caught, and they were willing to cook it up for us (for $30). The resort wouldn't cook the fish for us.

Overall, the resort appeared clean, most of the people were friendly, they did a good job with the golf cart service getting people where they want to go. Food was subpar at best, illness spread like wildfire through the resort, could only get 2 beers a day sent to the room - it's an all inclusive resort - the room service beverages should not be limited like this.

We would not recommend this resort to others.

Great service! Everyone we encountered were helpful and attentive however, our assigned Star Class personal agent, Gonzola Badilla, requires special acknowledgment for going above and beyond! He was communicative, available & thorough. There wasnt anything that we mentioned that he couldn't take care of. He saw to every detail and the made trip incredibly memorable. He deserves a raise!

The resort itself is beautiful and well designed. The rooms are well proportioned and have a warm decorated aesthetic for a tropical resort. Also, there is an incredible list of activities in addition to the nightly shows.

Drawbacks:

1. The food was hit or miss at each restaurant and the room service menu isn't very appetizing or extensive. Additionally, it takes 30-35 minutes (regardless of order time throughout the day/night) for rokm service to arrive and some items are substituted without warning. It definitely feels like this is an area that could be improved. Also, it's key to make restaurant reservations the minute you arrive otherwise, you get stuck with late dinner options, or having to repeat restaurants if you don't want to eat at the buffet every night. It seems that making reservations should be built into the Star Class tour. It's also worth noting that each restaurant is closed on a different day so that has to be factored in.

2. The trolley service isn't consistent and the resort's landscape is steep. It feels like the number of drivers should be doubled and widely available between 6am - 11pm. There were times where we waited upwards of 15 mins at the main bldg for a trolley while restaurants were still open and entertainment was going on.

3. The number of people you encounter. Various people come to your door (housekeeping, minibar restocking, room service, nightly turndown service, etc). This consistently requires you to answer quickly and be dressed or have the do not disturb sign on your door at all times. While the sign is typically my preference, I wanted to have the room cleaned without consistently asking for specific services. However, I didn't realize how many people were involved. Also, various employees upsell services throughout the day (spa, wine, etc). While they are not pushy, this is a bit disconcerting as you're not sure when to use your Star Class personal agent and when not to. It seems that upgrading to Star Class service (with the associated wristband) should require all other personnel to work with directly with your agent.

All in all, the resort is beautiful and definitely worth staying at!

Ten days at Planet Hollywood with a total of 4 couples. We were greeted with applause & drinks upon entering PH. Great value booking through Costco. Julio, our Costco Rep at PH was helpful and informative. Private transfer- about 30 minutes from Liberia Airport. Ocean view rooms- Buildings 12/13- were spacious, clean and comfortable. Easy walk to main building for breakfast buffet & shows. We were prepared for the steep walkways based on previous reviews but always had transportation available throughout our stay to get us to the beach/pool area. Always plenty of lounge chairs & umbrellas by the pool, especially that we were a group of 8. Had hoped for a bit of shaded area in the pool as it is very hot during the day and in the water is the place to be for me. Beach is black sand and very hot, although if you choose to spend time at the beach there were plenty of trees and a nice breeze.

Staff was warm, welcoming, friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. We found the PH App to be a bit disappointing, especially with restaurant reservations. However, we met Steven Dijeres one of our first mornings, and Steven went above and beyond to assist us- always with a smile - Pura Vida! Steven assisted us with information & reservations and we were able to enjoy many meals at the different restaurants. Our group was able to experience all of the different restaurants and return to our favorites - Gusto (Italian) and Teppanyaki (Both Hibachi and Sushi Bar).

We have returned to Costa Rica for several years every February to enjoy the friendly people and beautiful weather. In the earlier years we enjoyed some adventurous excursions to see the natural beauty of Costa Rica. Now, we just enjoy the resorts, the weather, the people, some entertainment & activities in the pool, massages on the beach and a relaxing time. A few of our group participated in excursions, but be aware there is some travel involved and not on the best roads. PH offered nature hikes and kayaks if you’re looking to explore a bit. Saw some monkeys on the beach- always entertaining. We’ve stayed at other resorts where there are monkeys and iguanas in abundance, but at least at PH were able to use our balcony uninterrupted by the wildlife.

One more note if you are booking, be aware that not all buildings have elevators. So, if you are not comfortable with steps, ensure that you request rooms on the first floor or request a building with elevators. Our room was on the second floor, so not a problem for us. And, as far as navigating the resort, we always had transportation available by waiting for a cart or calling for a cart. We did not opt for Star Class and not sure that we missed out on anything based on conversations with other guests.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Are there good tours close by to this resort and do you book through the hotel?

We went on a zipline tour that was about a 1 hour drive and a catamaran sunset cruise that left right from the beach outside of the hotel which was very enjoyable and included snacks and snorkeling. We booked both through Planet Hollywood. We also went on a kayak tour that was included as part of the all inclusive benefits that left right from the beach.
