After a fraught journey from Hampi I arrived unwell in Fort Kochi. Augustine made feel very welcome at the Elite Hotel and I was given a clean room with fresh towels. The staff are friendly and Augstine was very helpful organising an excellent trip to the backwaters but also telling me there was no point going on the elephant trip as the place was closed. The Elite Hotel is close to the centre of many attractions and local amenities so I was able to walk around safely in the evening. I enjoyed my stay and hope to return.

Attached to the Elite Hotel in Kochi is the Garden Restaurant. Quite a good menu, varied foods, all those sampled have been of good quality, and a fair price. The head waiter, always dashing about with the orders to a few kitchens of varied assortments of food and drinks, and always willing to help. If in Kochi it is worth a visit.

Staff wonderful. Local rooms standard were good with clean facilities and safe environment. The breakfast was excellent and the added bonus of the bakery led to an overall excellent feel. The owner and also the trip advisor/ receptionist were both ultra helpful. The owner got up at 4am to see us off. The poison in Fort Cochin was great for all the area and I just loved the feel of the town. Thank you.

Stayed here in March 2013. Very clean and very central with friendly service. About 700 rupees a night for en suite twin room. Also used the travel agent based on the ground floor, next to the restaurant, who arranged a brilliant overnight boat trip on a smart new eco-boat (as claimed!) with delicious food on board: Breeze Houseboat.

We are a couple around 70.
After having tried a some of hotels around we ended up at Elite. Clean and with the nicest people you can imagin! And cheap as well. The bakery had everything you can imagine and the coffe was as strong as we are used from home.
The lokation is also perfect in the middle of the town and close to everything. If we come back (which we will if there is a biennal in two years time) we simply must stay at Elite!

After many years coming to Fort Cochin, I decided to stay at the long running Elite Hotel on Princess Street. My wife and I arrived early in the morning by the first ferry from Ernakulam and despite persistent pleas by commission seeking rickshaw drivers insisted on being deposited at the Elite. It had been 21 years since I last stayed on Princess Street and wanted the central location, close to what passes as action in this still sleepy town.

Our room was clean and spacious and reasonably priced, especially considering its location. Every morning the staff in the restaurant were happy to make up a pot of good (not Nescafe) coffee and a chai for my wife. The second generation owner tells me he never pays commission and is able to keep his prices down because of this.

The restaurant is OK, though meal timings are a little perplexing with many menu items not available until after 7:00pm. Especially good is the bakery with its wide assortment of cakes, cookies, and if you're early enough, hot out of the fryer jelly donuts. Their south Indian dishes are good, and the prices lower than any other place in town.

All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for great location and budget prices.

This bakery cafe should have a separate listing to the family's adjoining accomodation business. With its entrance on Burgher Lane (one block over from Princess Street) the cafe is great for a cheap western or Keralan style breakfast or lunch. Popular with locals and travellers alike, the cafe also sells good fresh fare from its bakery further down the lane (think French style pastries and breads, as well as 'famous' vege puffs). No pressure, relaxed vibe, good music (including Dylan) and English language newspapers - worth a go!

I stayed here for one night.
The owner was friendly and amenable to being woken at 6 in the morning to let me in.
Room was basic but very clean. No loo paper, towels or sheets so bring your own. I asked for loo paper and was directed to a shop. Room a bit run down and dark.
All of the above was fine really but I struggled with the extreme damp and mould smell. It's obviously an issue in Cochin (the moss) and vines everywhere attest to that) but was particularly bad in my room.
Nonetheless - perhaps other rooms with better ventilation (mine was on the first floor -as in one up - and onto the interior courtyard) don't suffer from this problem.
Without the damp issue this is a simple clean cheap run down inn with very friendly helpful proprietors.

Stayed at the Elite for 3 nights. Basic rooms and basic amenities. Friendly service and the older man at the front desk was very knowledgeable and helpful, told us lots about Kerala state and helped us book onward travel and our backwater tour which were both the same price as found elsewhere in Fort Kochi. Great location on Princess Street right beside the Chinese fishing nets. Nice restaurant downstairs with bakery and little shop. Cheap prices, okay food.
