A walk in historic Fort Kochi left us at the gate of Ballard Heritage Bungalow. We wandered in, met Markose, the easy-going on the surface but hard working behind the scenes manager. Each of the rooms is distinctly historical, well-maintained, extremely spacious, and clean with high quality bedding. I really appreciated the distinctive heritage feel, not gentrified, but fully intact. Markose was friendly, always available to share his ample knowledge of Fort Kochi and makes great coffee to boot. Genuine colonial chaise lounges offer a relaxing view of the courtyard. This place is a real hidden gem.

Totally wonderful stay at Ballard Bungalow. It is a beautiful old Dutch Colonial building. Absolutely perfect location .The owner Marcus is charming, helpful , very knowledgeable and all the activities and transport he arranged for us was efficient and the right price. Glorious large heritage type rooms. Good Wi Fi, Air Con, Hot Water, Breakfast. The double rooms have huge beds that can be split to make singles if required. Just great value for money and "location location" . Would not hesitate to book again or recommend to friends.

We had 3 nights here: huge bedrooms in an old Dutch house. Very clean and air conditioned - a relief in the March heat. Excellent location within walking distance of the Chinese fishing nets. Good breakfast included. Markose, the host, is a mine of information and very helpful - felt like home. Peter, the tuk tuk driver we used from the Bungalow, is also very knowledgeable and helped us get around to all the sites. One of the friendliest places we stayed on our Kerala trip.

We arrived early and they let us check in no problem, the place is really clean and quiet, the rooms are huge! It's an old heritage building right in the centre of the main tourist strip, it's close to all of the main attractions, but when you're inside it feels like you e stepped into the past. This place is ideal for couples, backpackers and families alike, they have a pleasant outside and inside area for socialising, plus you can use the pool of the adjacent hotel. They also have a kitchen for communal use or if you want breakfast they can provide. All of the rooms have ac, TV and hot showers, and are wifi ready. The owner is also a really nice guy, really accommodating and friendly, and they just kitted the place out with new fancy bedding which gives the place a five star feel.

Potentially a great place to stay BUT very dusty rooms, no hot water and beds not made or rooms cleaned (we stayed two nights ). Poorest breakfast ever had in India- plain omelette and a couple of slices of super market bread. Can not recommend this hotel.

Wonderful colonial architecture at an affordable price. This place has a perfect location, opposite the wildly more expensive Brunton Boatyard, and close to the Chinese fishing nets. Despite the name this is not a bungalow. The building is grand and spacious with high ceilings, teak floors and a refined ‘manor house’ atmosphere. I don’t usually write reviews but the charm of this hotel really stood out compared to other places on our 3-week holiday. The rooms are massive with en-suite bathrooms, a/c and free wifi. Our room had a private balcony overlooking mango trees in the courtyard. The enormous bed was a beautiful antique four-poster with a comfortable modern mattress, quality bed linen and big fluffy towels. We stayed 3 nights and were very well looked after by the welcoming and friendly staff who went the extra mile to make sure we had all we needed. I would certainly stay again and happily recommend.

Amazing location in surroundings that take you back in time . 5 minutes walk to see the fishermen's nets ,ferry crossing across to city, numerous restaurants all good quality fresh fish . Ballard really blew us away in our room we had a large 4 poster bed which you needed to us a small step to get onto it was just amazing. The laundry facility was amazing, dirty stained linen trousers came back as new. Staff so lovely helpful .We had travelled around for a few weeks and this experience would be great for anyone wanting to really see another side .Very clean , comfortable and providing another amazing India experience ?

We have just spent ten days at Ballard Bungalow. This is a splendid property, full of character. It is very very central, close to all the sights, and yet it was very quiet. It was exceptionally clean and air-conditioning worked perfectly. The beds were so very comfortable and wide. The rooms (with beautiful period furniture) are very well insulated against mosquitos. There are proper nets on the windows and around the door, and we did not have a single mosquito in our room throughout our ten-day stay, which is quite an achievement in Kochi!

Ballard Bungalow is run by very friendly, efficient and genuine people, Tuomas and Joseph. They were very helpful. Tuomas recommended a very good trip to the Backwaters (organised Discoveries travel), where we had an exceptionally knowledgeable guide.

We travelled with our 9-year old daughter, and I would highly recommend this hotel for families.

I stayed in ballard bungalow during my holidays in december 2007 along with my wife. The booking was made through makemytrip, i think i paid somewhere around 1500 rupees, that is my wife's usual budget for accomodation in South India. My budget is usually a higher than that since i'm worried about the kind of cleanliness and service i get.

I was completely surprised with what we got for that price, the room (or should i say a MINI SUITE) was huge and spacious, the bed was king size (if not more), bathroom had a clean tub and we used it. There was a place for everything inside our room, a big table, a stand for clothes, TV with cable, air conditioner, a closet, a small dining room, candles...

The property is a heritage building with the style of colonial dutch architecture, that's what we were looking from Fort Cochin. The service was very good, very friendly young people and the delicious breakfast gave us enough energy for our walk in Fort Cochin.

Dear Jenny, I am really sorry to say that the cheaper room does not have the garden view but it is over looking to the street! Markose.
