Amritara The Poovath Beachfront Heritage in Fort Kochi is widely celebrated for its exceptional service, with staff often commended for their kindness and attentiveness. While the rooms are admired for their heritage charm and amenities, some guests have pointed out variations in room size and natural light. The hotel's amenities, including the food and serene atmosphere, are frequently lauded, although mentions of the pool and A/C have been mixed.
Cleanliness is a standout feature, contributing to the property's overall value despite some views on room pricing. The tranquil atmosphere and prime location near cultural sites and the beach make it a popular choice for travelers, though noise can sometimes be an issue.

Detailed Reviews
The outside covered patio was a pleasant location to start the day with a delicious breakfast. The room was comfortable. The only concern was that a mosquito net was provided (in the closet) but there didn’t appear to be any method to hang it over the bed. Our friends did have a net installed in their room. Other than that, everything else was fine.
We could easily walk out to the beach area and visit shops and historic sites. The reception staff coordinated tickets for us to see a local Kathekali dance performance.

The perfect place to explore Fort Kochi Island. The rooms are spacious, comfortable beds and huge washrooms have us the comfort we needed. Food was delicious (as expected) and staff was very polite and warm. So it was truly an amazing stay with picturesque location. Highly recommended.

Having read glowing recent reviews and looking at the position and glorious old building with a pool. Was the most expensive stay we booked in our 6 weeks in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and India, and was to be our final 4 nights in a bit of luxe as a treat.
Big dissappointment really. The building and garden are lovely. Just like the photos, wide central public gallery upstairs and down, gorgeous really high timber ceilings. Restaurant setting in the old rear open portico with the ceiling in the clouds and sea breezes coming over the wall. Nice pool on a pleasant garden. All set for a heavenly stay.
Unfortunately the devil is in the detail, or lack thereof.
We were asked on going to our room to ask if we need "more medicine" for mosquitoes. No mozzies coils in sight, no nets and no spray. Big as B52's the mozzies there, and plenty of them. We live in the tropics and we get it, but they don't seem to treat the garden to stop them. In Bali they fog the grounds and place coils out in bedroom, bathroom and cafes, even in the $20per night places. I got some spray from reception and by night 3 someone left a net in our room, for us to put up, ourselves. It was a single for a king bed, and labelled by staff that way too!
Rising or lowering damp in our bathroom. Toiletries not replaced until requested then replaced inconsistently.
Breakfast was lousy (see my review for their restaurant). Pool towels not replaced or tidied during the day.
The lovely pool was cloudy by every afternoon with the abundant pigeons nesting in the eaves of the roof (a facia board needs replacing and it looks like for ages too, easily and quickly fixed) dropping poo into it whilst they and the crows fly overhead and also stop to drink. I pointed it out on day 3 because I wasn't sure they knew ("I'm getting it done, it rained until the end of November and no one local will come over Christmas and New Year" on the 21st January).
We paid $AUD1200 for two rooms for four nights for a special boutique hotel experience. By comparison we paid $260 for three nights, two rooms, no brekky in Jaisalmer and the staff were keen to please, smiled, the cook was a wonder, and if things were not quite right they apologised and got on with it. Good grief we didn't get hot water or heating and I wasn't cross! They got a rave review from me!

Imagine for a moment that you have a rich uncle who owns properties around the world. You mention wanting to go to Kochi and he tells you he has a place on the beach in Fort Kochi that he never uses but that you are welcome to use anytime. He tells you that he will let his staff know when you are coming and they will take good care of you. Well that was what my experience at Amritara The Poovath Beachfront Heritage felt like. Reception is in a separate building so when the porter carries your bags to your hotel room, it feels like you are an important guest at your uncle's beach cottage. The hotel is essentially a large, open, modernized heritage home, with views of the Arabian Sea from the second floor. It is in a very quiet location and it has a small, private backyard with nice landscaping and a small pool. Meals are served on the first floor covered terrace. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive and helpful. If there is anything you need, just ask and it will be taken care of at once. (Sometimes you don't even have to ask.) There is an extensive menu for breakfast and another menu for lunch & dinner. The food was generally well prepared - especially the grilled fish with lemon butter sauce. The hotel was not very busy during my stay so I really felt like an honored guest at a private home. I was able to walk to all the places in Fort Kochi that I wanted to go during my 4 days there. It was the perfect little getaway. PS: If you want the most privacy, ask for Room no. 105, tucked away behind the grand staircase.

We stayed three nights. Start with positives. All my experiences with staff were positive and I thought the food was good quality and reasonably priced. The pool looked nice but we did not use it. We stayed in the room at the back - very small (had to crab-walk to get past the bed), no view. Wifi was pretty hopeless as was the TV. The place is a little tired and worn and shows for the apparent low level of property maintenance (the weight of pigeons nesting in eaves pushed a very large piece of the eave lining out and crashed to the ground not far from us during breakfast). I don't think it would take much to bring this place to an early higher standard - but at present, owners need to spend some money to improve this place.

Beautiful, spacious, well-ventilated room with a private balcony overlooking the gorgeous Kochi beach. The room is larger than most standard rooms at five star hotels! History and culture blend beautifully in the architecture and decor of this property. Laze around in the balcony and watch the waves rise and ebb, enjoy a swim in the pool, or step out and be at the beach in two minutes! Little nooks and corners replete with hand-picked books, historical paintings and engaging curios ensure that the time spent at Amritara is anything but boring. All modern amenities are available here. The staff is extremely courteous. Dining options are a la carte; the dishes are truly lip-smacking and economical.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this heritage hotel to anyone looking for a great place to stay at Fort Kochi, right at the beach, with picturesque views and excellent hospitality.

We requested for an early check in and we got it since the hotel was not fully occupied. The location is nice and the hotel can be marinated well with a bit of effort and awareness. It felt like the owner didn't care to upgrade the business
Breakfast is very limited. There is one item served per day; First day we got toast, omelet & chicken sausage (sausage was not edible) and the next day only Dosa. The coffee machine was inoperative, The dinning area was full of flies and debris all over the place.
We had the sea view room but the room was quite small. There was literally no room for any luggage inside the room. There was a small 2 door wooden cupboard which was completely run down and it wasn't comfortable to put clothes inside the cupboard.
After arriving at the hotel, we decided to shorten our stay for 2 days as we were looking for a bit more comfort. We informed the reception for the change although our initial booking was for 4 days. I agreed to pay for one extra day since we arrived early and requested not to charge us for 4 days but staff members were very rude and refused straightway. I made couple of calls to the hotel reservation, spoke to the hotel in charge but nothing happened.
The hotel charged us for full 4 days although we stayed there only for 2 days.
It was a total disappointment and I believe that they would make better policy for their business.

Dear Guest, Thank you for staying at The Amritara Poovath Heritage Hotel and for sharing the experience of your stay on TripAdvisor. We constantly strive to provide the best experience & comfort to our customers. We were glad that we were able to provide an early check in especially at early hours of the morning. Please note over the years our owners have generously taken care of the 3oo hundred year old Dutch mansion and continue to do so every year. We have noted your feedback regarding the breakfast spread and shall inform the same to our chef. We apologise that due to technical issue the coffee machine was out of service during your stay, but our team is always ready to bring freshly prepared coffee from the kitchen. At Amritara Poovath Heritage Hotel, the rooms our true blend of colonial style architecture with added modern requirements of 21st century. Sea View rooms are even more spacious as compared to other categories as it comes with an attahced verandah overlooking the beautiful Arabian Sea. We are upset to know that the room did not meet your expectations. Respectfully, we would like to disagree regarding your statement ascribed to us for the refund. Upon booking we had informed about our cancellation policy and it was only on the 3rd day upto last minute that you had shared your intention of shortening your stay as you had change in plan hence the management was not in the position to refund. Please be informed Amritara Poovath Heritage Hotel have always been praised for staff politeness & professionalism, so we are shocked to know you experienced otherwise. We hope you give us another opportunity in near future to show our true hospitality. Thank You Nancy Desai General Manager

Amritara The Poovath Beachfront Heritage is really a beautiful hotel. Its an old dutch house transformed in an hotel. The location in fort kochi is perfect! The most touristic locations are close by and even reachable by foot. Locations like jew street can be easily reached by tuk-tuk in 15min. The hotel room is really clean and quite, the shower was really spacious. My room had a private balcony looking out on the green garden were in the morning you could see the birds and a lot of colourful butterflies.
What i also really liked was the breakfast there was no buffet so the breakfast was made fresh and almost everything was possible. I would recommend the french toast.
In the hotel everything was organised really well there is plenty of friendly and helpful staff. From the nice guard saying good morning when entering the property to the hotel manager helping me with day trips around cochi.
But the most memorable experience was a day trip to the backwaters of Kerala it was organised by the hotel so there was a taxi pick up and drop off at the hotel. The funny thing about the trip was that half of the staff could join me with this trip because i was there in the off-season and there was time for them to experience the trip themselves. The trip was really beautiful and especially compared to the busy Indian cities really peaceful and the nature is really beautiful, because the staff joined me i had a lot of fun too and they also explained me a lot about normal Indian life for example how to eat the traditional Kerala lunch.

A cozy and luxurious heritage hotel set in a beautiful part of Kochi. Nancy, the GM of the property, was very helpful catering to our needs and the Verandah is a nice place to hang out for breakfast or Kattan Chai.
I recommend the deluxe rooms over the standard room since the standard room is a bit too cramped for a couple.
