Preamble: This is an honest and a professional review “This is Definitely Not a 5 diamonds resort”, but has the potential in a year or two. Summary: Positive: I loved the resort facility (the corner suite and the Pools) Negative: I hated the incompetent service. (All Inclusive is just not for me) Was it worth it?: Yes, I paid for the privacy and luxury of my corner suite.... My main reason why I picked this resort versus more luxurious resorts in Cabo. Detailed Report: Grand class corner suite: Tip for selecting the preferred corner suite: The right end facing the ocean, for privacy pick (view of ocean and public area/beach) 301, 401, 501, 601, 701 For ocean and resort view (the pools) pick 303, 403, 503, 603, 703. Large and spacious, very clean and smells fresh King size bed (regular king) and very comfortable mattress and pillows. Good/different options for the included mini bar and nespresso coffee (plenty of water) Shower and jet excellent Plunge pool excellent option to avoid using the public pool, daily. The butlers are very knowledgeable and helpful... do not hesitate to use their services Housekeeping staff: inconsistent... depends on the shift... could be excellent and good be lacking. Minor observations about the room: I locked myself in the restroom as the door lock stuck and could not open.... 5 minutes of juggling before we called maintenance. Salamander visitor was spotted in the bathroom, just keep an eye on those reptiles if you are afraid of them (they are harmless)... not anyone’s fault ...it is Mother Nature. Unfortunate incident: Water shot down in the morning.... getting up to get ready for checkout to leave to airport, no water for bathroom or shower. Called front desk, they said a shuttle is available to take us to a close-by resort to use restrooms and take a shower.... no time to do that, we used pockets of water for restroom and we left to airport without shower. I know it is beyond the control of the management, but I recommend to check the facility and perform maintenance before reopening the resort in full capacity. Tips and service charge included: Well.... this by the hotel administration not the employees/workers!!!! They all expect tips..... I am very familiar to the this level of prestigious policy and I always wary about giving money to people so I do not have to insult them, but here .... it is awkward and you will feel uneasy if you Do Not Tip.... even to those who do not go above and beyond and who do not perform exceptionally (which is usually the case when you tip EXTRA). Just use your judgment and act according to your comfort level not to those people’s expectations. (BTW, administration gives 13.8% tip to services such as SPA staff) Pools: Amazing pools. A beautiful facilities. Serenity Adult pool: No social distancing during the Pandemic era, all chairs stacked side by side with no buffer. You pick chairs close to the pool with safe distance from others, but soon others occupy the right and left chairs next to you. Family Pool: plenty of space. Pool cocktails are mediocre at their best (All inclusive style). I liked the spicy Bloody Mary; a cocktail mix with splash of Vodka. The mojito is a very sweet none sparkling water with few drops of possibly rum. So, here is my recommendation: try the “Ojo rojo” (micheleda).... a Bloody Mary cocktail juice with beer and not Vodka, and you yourself mix the beer with a portion to your liking. If you need more attentive service, give tips..... (remember that tips and service charge already included in the daily rate i.e. you pay tips regardless the level of service). Pool lunch: coming from Azul restaurant, the tacos and the ceviches are excellent. One terrible observation: Everyday and once a day, a guy comes with ice cream cart "Paletas"to offer to people sitting by the pool.... You can ONLY request one small ice cream cup (just one flavor).... I wanted to taste two different flavors, he said no... I found it awkward that I pay this exorbitant amount of money every day in this ALL Inclusive resort and yet I am ONLY limited to request ONE Ice cream... Yes, it is comical, hilarious, yet INSULTING... So, if you are making limited amount of ice cream daily, either make more, or offer none. Do Not Insult the guests. SPA facilities: We tried 80 minutes specialized couple massage, expensive but provided by one professional and one newly trained. We needed the treatment for easing our stress and muscles spasms from being over stressed and being overworked 14 months of COVID era none stop work with no break. One excellent experienced therapist, the other is not (hit and miss). The barber “a lady barber” with 5 year experience, well trained and competent gave me a nice haircut before I go back to my work from my vacation. Highly recommended (Thank You Isabel) Restaurants: //General note about service in restaurants and other facilities: Service all restaurants on the Grand Velas resort has incompetent, inexperienced and unqualified waiting staff to serve at 4 stars restaurants. (Not the fault of the resort or the new hires who are trying extremely hard, but it is due to something I cannot mention in details in this review.... due to contract and dispute issue with the Union that forced > 100 original well-trained staff to leave their jobs at the resort). My advice.... ignore the service and enjoy the food.// Azul (Buffet Style Restaurant): Very Good Food, Limited variety for a Buffet Azul breakfast: excellent variety and of good taste and quality Azul lunch: limited but sufficient variety of international buffet style, but do not forget to order from grill station your favorite steak, lamb chops or arrachera. Service very attentive and friendly but lacking experience (All waiting staff). The person on the grill needs training.... very slow service if you request something other than buffet (which you will get yourself). Room Service: The food is way better than those prepared at Azul restaurant (honestly). I tried very same items (egg Benedict for example), the room service is way better and properly prepared. Besides, you do not have to deal with the incompetent servants at the restaurant. Frida (Gourmet Mexican): Well... it was disappointing to us, it just did not meet our expectations of finding authentic upscale/gourmet Mexican cuisine in “Mexico”... Service was Ok not to the level of the proclaimed restaurant; yes very friendly and trying hard to please yet lacking competency and experience .... just need refresher course of servicing in higher class restaurants..... it is absolutely sufficient for a nice restaurant in 3 or 4 stars hotel/resort.... not the Proclaimed 5 stars “Grand Velas”. Servants do not comply with same rules as guests, such as use the face masks properly... some put the mask over their mouths and under the nose not above the nose .... quick note: if you read the dress code on the hotel website about Frida restaurant, they declare that open footwear and shorts are not allowed .... we came to dine on Friday night with our elegant casual attire and the two adjacent tables had people with shorts, t-shirts and slippers. We felt overdressed.... hotel Manager: either remove the restriction of dress code or enforce your rules. This is common sense for 5 stars establishment. Follow-up note: The second day, we received the daily program and mentioned in the letter that the dress code for Frida restaurant is resort causal .... what a confusion! Velas 10 (Seafood and grill): Seafood Items better than Meat Ones Grilled bone-marrow inedible as it is not fully cooked, rubbery instead of what suppose to be a spreadable on bread. Flavor bland but provided side condiments..... Do Not Order due to health hazards Rib eye steak, about 12-14 ounces grilled temperature to order but meat quality is ok, tough not tender and not properly seasoned Seafood items are excellent (I highly recommend it over the meat items)....local sea bass very good and the chocolate clams is superb Salads are amazing and soup is very nice too. Cocktails selection are excellent Service very attentive yet you have to ask for more drinks and water as servants/wait staff do not see empty glasses. I predict that the service will get better in 6 - 12 months after the waiting staff and manager (new hires) get trained to serve at nice restaurant and a new or more experienced chef oversee the kitchen (I may be wrong, but I believe Chef Sixtos was transferred to serve at Cocina De Autor). Luca (Italian): A true authentic Italian restaurant. Thank you chef La Monica. The best restaurant on the resort for taste and authenticity. Items we tried: truffle risotto.... must try for risotto lovers Pasta ala vodka ..... excellent Meat balls .... true Italian representation Lamb shank .... perfect The beef carpaccio.... a genius item by chef La Monica....was impressive Octopus carpaccio..... 2nd to beef carpaccio but excellent as well About the wine .... I am a Level 2 Sommelier, so I do have some knowledge of the wine. The wine options that are part of the all inclusive are not drinkable “to me” ... very mediocre. I ordered (premium and not included) the best Baja Mexican red wine to try, but it was not to my liking .... so I asked for the restaurant Sommelier to help with what selection they have in the cellar, no Sommelier available on the resort (the website claimed they have one (Don Pedro Poncelis) and bragged about their 2,500 bottles wine cellar); Pedro is now 78 years old and he did not return to work after the Pandemic (retired). Anyhow, the wonderful manager “Simone” helped me with the selection and I ordered an Italian wine moderately priced at $200USD (four times the price on the market)... but well worth it. Service: as the rest and all restaurants on the Grand Velas resort; incompetent, inexperienced and unqualified waiting staff to serve at 4 stars restaurants. (Not the fault of the resort or the new hires who are trying extremely hard, but it is due to something I cannot mention in details in this review.... due to contract and dispute issue with the Union that forced > 100 original well-trained staff to leave their jobs at the resort). My advice.... ignore the service and enjoy the food. Piaf (French): Very good food, but not a true French Food is above average ( The true French dishes; Escargot and Foie Gras were not executed properly). Dress code: I know it is post-COVID, I know it is very slow, I know occupancy of the resort is 35% and I know the administration wants to accommodate all visitors/guests and encourage tourists, but Do Not Deceive people. From the website, it seemed and written the dress code is elegant casual and no t-shirts, shorts, and slipper (flip flops)-sandals and open foot wear are allowed.... so we packed accordingly and dressed for a special occasion to dine at this What claimed to be “A nice French Restaurant”. The two big tables around us with two families in almost a pool attire (shorts, slippers and t-shirts) made this restaurant a pool side cafe rather than a nice dinner time. It is an insult to us, I do not blame the people who are inconsiderate of others but I blame the resort management of not enforcing the rules.... Service: as the rest and all restaurants on the resorts, incompetent, inexperienced and unqualified waiting staff to serve at 4 stars restaurants. The first three rounds of service were terrible: One mistake is acceptable, two mistakes means there is a problem, a third mistake “you tell me!”.... (The mistakes and shortcomings did not stop at 3....) My advice.... if you must eat there (All Inclusive resort); ignore the service and enjoy the food. Cocina De Autor (Fine Dining): This is the ONLY qualified “Fine Dining” restaurant at Grand Velas resort. The original chef “Sydney Shutte“ is the one who was awarded the 2 Michelin stars and NOT the restaurant Cocina De Autor. Also, Sydney, the original chef, created the menu that is offered now, he left to the States months ago. The current chef just executing the menu. The food: All dishes are amazing, small bites but all art pieces. Yes, you will leave hungry but satisfied. Wine pairing: definitely could have been better. Drinkable but nothing special. One same wine for two different courses.... this is not true pairing. One red wine did not match the fish dish at all. Service: the only trained waiter who was left after >100 fired after the Pandemic was very knowledgeable and met the fine level service; his name “Carlos Aragon”. As you may know, only 20 waiters (all combined) brought back to serve at the resort restaurants and the new hire have no experience and poorly trained (if at all received any training)... this restaurant have better trained waiter than the other 4. Still, some of the servants resist improvements and when we asked one to put his mask over his nose rather under it, he apologized but ignored the request... so whenever he comes to attend the table “WE” put our masks.... still he did not get the clue. So, other than the deceiving claim about the Michelin stars, the mediocre wine, and few service observations, for food this is the best of all offered at Grand Velas.

So.....per my title, this resort deserves a review. This place is amazing in ALL aspects. The food is GREAT, you should try all the restaurants if possible. Special shout out to our concierges Carlos and Blair, they took care of what we needed logistically. A special note in this review for anyone with younger kids. We used a nanny from 5pm until 11pm everyday. By far the best nanny is Scarlet, whom is a concierge/butler during the day at the hotel. My wife and kids LOVED her, and we wouldn't have had just amazing evenings without her watching our youngest. Joel and Reuben are your guys by the pool...these guys know what you want and need. All in all....a pleasure!!

My wife and I just returned from a weeks stay. Easily the finest resort we’ve been to. Top notch and very attentive staff ready to engage and take care of every need. Food was amazing with Lucca being our favorite restaurant. Our personal butlers for the week Erick, Michelle and Lucy were a text away from taking care of whatever we needed. Water aerobics with Jordi was a workout and then we followed him to the blackjack table. Would return in a heartbeat!

My amazing wife surprised me with a vacation for my 45th birthday and we stayed at the Grand Velas. I've been to Cabo a few times and love the area, but have never stayed at any of the Velas properties before; now I don't think I'd ever want to stay anywhere else! This place is amazing on every level! Generally I have never been a fan of "all inclusive" as It seems the food and the general service are subpar. This is not the case with the Grand Velas; I can honestly say they prepared some of the best food I've ever had. The service was exceptional as well, not just good or great, EXCEPTIONAL! The Velas staff went out of their way at every opportunity to make sure our vacation was perfect! Our concierges, Michelle, Lucy, & Eric were amazing! They made all of our reservations, even for places outside the resort, they had great recommendations on things to do, and fulfilled any and all special requests that we had. From specific liquors in our room, to a private birthday dinner with last minute changes, to bringing us sunscreen at the pool, they just went above and beyond, and truly made our trip special! Ruben, Eduardo & Joel from the pool staff were equally amazing and made our lazy days by the pool incredibly relaxing! The property itself is meticulously kept and stunningly beautiful, and while all resorts in this caliber can likely make that claim, it is with mentioning as you will not be disapointed in this aspect! My new favorite place in my favorite place! Just book here, you will not be disappointed!

My wife and I stayed at Grand Velas Los Cabos this past week for our honeymoon and are so happy we picked Grand Velas. The service, food, drinks and property itself are second to none. Some people are hesitant to stay at all-inclusive hotels because they're concerned about the quality of the food. That is definitely not the case at Grand Velas. The restaurants at Grand Velas not only have the best food of any all-inclusive we've stayed at but is better than most restaurants we've ever been to. They have 7 restaurants with a variety of cuisines so there is something for everyone. We ate at Velas 10, Frida, Luca and Cocina de Autor and not only was the food incredible at each restaurant but the presentation was better than some of the most luxurious restaurants we've been to. What makes Grand Velas stand out even more is their service. Diane and Ricardo were our butler concierges throughout our stay and they went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time at Grand Velas. They would text us each morning with a list of activities that we could enjoy, were available 24/7 and also would find us at the pool every day to check on how we were doing. Every other staff member we interacted with was also extremely friendly and willing to help in any way that they could. We absolutely would recommend Grand Velas to anyone traveling to Cabo. We've already told our friends and family how great our stay was and hope to be back soon.
