I was given a closet instead of a hotel room. The pictures on the site look nothing like what I’ve got. There is nothing open after 8:00pm in the area & the hotel is way too expensive for what it offers.

Interesting stay at this quiet and friendly hotel in the heart of a busy city. Feels like you are in the countryside. Very quiet and peaceful. Hotel is embeded in the UCR campus. Not super easy to access but once you figure it out it adds to the charm... The hotel rooms need a little TLC and upgrading but are clean and provide a relaxing stay. Breakfast was included and is very good. Staff are all very friendly and helpful.

I stayed one night (was going to reserve a second one, but I didn't), I got there super tired and ready for my good first night of sleep in about a week... it was a failure. Internet speed was terrible (the moments I was able to connect) so I had to spend all my phone data credit to upload work documents, when I was finally done and ready to sleep a noisy couple next door (that definitely were having a better night than me) ruined. The rooms are not private and you can hear your other guests sleeping, talking, etc. On the morning, I had a work meeting so I asked the staff about the internet, to what they reply "it always work, try logging again", no solutions were given. I ended up paying Parking and coffee to get access to internet in a restaurant near by. I used to send all my work guests there, not anymore. Just realized it is like said in other comments, an overpriced hostel. Summary: Noisy rooms, terrible wifi. Breakfast was ok.…

HELLO MR., I want to answer to all your complains and the real reason why we did not want to have you as a guest in our hotel . 1- Not true we have bad internet , it is optic fiber and it works perfect. 2-You can not hear other room guests. it is a very quite place 3-We do have a huge parking and is FREE THE REAL REASON BECAUSE YOU ARE UNHAPPY AND WROTE BAD THINGS ABOUT OUR HOTEL IS BECAUSE WE ASK YOU NOT TO SMOKE IN YOUR ROOM AND ALSO BECAUSE YOU WANTED TO BRING PROSTITUTES TO OUR HOTEL (WHICH YOU DID ONE NIGHT) This is a family owned place , with 31 year in the market and we are happy our guest are best of the best, very decent people we prefer not to have guests like you at our premises . I had the most amazing experience here! To start, I had COVID and needed a place to quarantine. They took me in open arms and thoughtfully placed me in a room that had an apartment feel with access to part of their garden where no one goes. They delivered breakfast, drinks, food from their Cafe, and even stepped in when if came to phone calls regarding medical paperwork from testing positive with COVID. They were helpful in arranging my transportation and printing out a paper I needed to fly back home. The place was very cool, clean, and artistic. It is located next to the university which has a lot of nature all around!! I would reccomend them to everyone!

My stay at Ave del Paraiso unluckily coincided with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the quick global escalation of chaos and uncertainty, the hotel owners took excellent care of both guests and staff. Unlike many other hotels in the area, AdP didn't rush to close until all guests - but the charming sloth and the humming birds from the neighborhood - were able to rearrange their flights from Costa Rica back home. The Adamskis were fantastic! I'll definitely book a room here again next time I'm in San Jose.

I picked this hotel because I had stayed here twice before in years past, for work. The Organization for Tropical Studies uses this hotel because of its great location. I was happy on those visits. My current stay is HORRIBLE because they put me in the newer house which is closer to the driveway (I hear people going in and out and talking loudly), nearer to the street (where I can hear traffic, especially the airbrakes on the trucks late at night -- the racket is impressive), and has really frustratingly unreliable WIFI. If they try to put you in the new house by the street, just cancel your visit. The new house is also next to the Cracovia cafe on the street. This restaurant/bar is run by the sons of the owner of Ave Paraiso. Tonight, they started live music at 10PM, and I need to work tomorrow. I know sometimes hotels in the city have noisy neighbors , but here the very same owners run the hotel AND create the noise. I am sure the main house is still quite, no traffic noise, no concerts, but I don-t think I will every stay here again if I don-t have a clear guarantee of what room I will be in. Very nice, safe and secure Art Deco hotel in great location. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The location is next to University of Costa Rica in a great neighborhood with lots of restaurants and museums. Breakfast is included and has fresh fruit and tropical Tico breakfast.

This is an eco boutique hotel. Very centric, with easy access to a mall nearby, fast food restaurants and a plaza with a food court. Public transportation runs close to the hotel, which is also located next to one of the university of Costa Rica´s entrances. Feels very safe. It´s also about 5-7 minutos far from Escalante. There is a good breakfast (fruits, bread, ham, cheese, gallo pinto, coffee, tea, juice, cereal.) The customer service was over the top. Do not expect to find a fancy room with AC. Rooms are quite and very basic but comfortable. There is hot water, and a small fridge. I would recommed this hotel if you are in San Jose for work or business.
