I've just returned from two weeks at the Catalonia Riviera Maya as a group of six, 3 couples no kids and thought I'd follow up with a review. Context is essential, we stayed as privileged guests and I'm in no doubt that those in standard would have a significant difference in opinion. Location - The hotel is situated in Puerto Aventuras, this is a gated a gated community around 1.5 hours from Cancun airport, this needs to be a consideration, especially those flying from as we did from the UK. It's located around 30 south from Player Del Carman, this around M$500 (£20ish give or take) each way in a taxi. The area is lovely, there's lots of bars, shops and restaurants around, top tip would be to pay in M$ (Pesos) as the exchange rate differs significantly and you'll pay a lot more if you use US$. If you walk down to the marina in the morning you may be lucky enough to see the Dolphins being trained, a real treat. Hotel and Grounds - this place is so clean, every morning there's an army of staff making sure the place is clean and ready for the day, this is great to see. The Privileged rooms we stayed in were in blocks around the pool area, a point to note is if you have issues with stairs, bring this up on the booking as there were only two rooms in each block on the ground floor. Pools - All cleaned regularly and until now, I've never seen the pool cleaners clean the edge of the tiles with a scouring pad! We mainly stayed in the privileged pool, a lovely small pool on the edge of the hotel with a small pool bar open from 11. The pool bar in the main area got really busy at times, but Leo made sure we were significantly hydrated throughout the afternoon though, and a little thank you to him assured this, well done Leo! Rooms - The room was cleaned daily, ours was stocked with coffee, soft drinks and a couple cans of larger, yes they are dated but only if you're comparing them to new travelodge/premier inn. They are more than good enough, Sat TV, Air Con, free safe, coffee machine and massive super king sized bed, I really did not care what the colour the walls and tiles were, TBH. I've stayed dirtier hospitals! Food and Drink - This is a big one, again context is everything. We only ate in the restaurants and never ate in the Buffets, booking could be a nightmare, but as a group of 6 we never struggled, we booked on the app around 0830 in the morning and managed to get in all of them. The Bloved restaurant was amazing, the breakfast and evening meal menus were outstanding, it really did make our holiday and the Privileged access made you feel that extra bit special. There's a choice of Italian, Japanese, Grill/Steakhouse and of cause Mexican. The drinks included as a privileged guest were all branded top shelf sprits, again this was a nice touch, the beer was a standard Mexican local larger. There was even a Hot Dog and Crepes stand in the Yucatan side of the hotel for afternoon treats! There is food available all day, breakfast finishes at 0930, the snack bar open at 1100 and then reopens again around 2300. Beach - It's no secret the hotel is situated on the edge of a marina, there is a small man made beach, with the opportunity to snorkel and and see the vast array of fish and sea life, if you're looking for a stunning sea view with an amazing beach, perhaps this isn't the place for you. However, it's clean tidy some water sports and loads of beds and not forgetting it's the warm Caribbean sea, don't let this put you off! Animation - OUTSTANDING! the shows in the evening were fantastic and there was lot's to do around the pool in the day should you wish! Well done, these guy's work extremely hard, as do the rest of the staff to ensure your holiday is fun! Excursions/Trips - There's a company in reception that sell trips that we used, they worked out the cheapest, as they offered 3 for the price of 2 on trips from booklet, if it's just one trip you want or you have to book them one at a time, then a shop on the edge of the marina are cheaper, they will beat the hotel by US$10-15pp each time and they both use the same tour company, Cancun Adventures. The sunset cruise is a must if you don't have children with you, some amazing views! Tui didn't bother even coming or doing a welcome meeting when we arrived so I can't comment on them. Downsides - The spa staff - every day, twice a day you'll be asked if you want info on the spa packages and if you agree you're pressured to by packages, this a poor show and could be easily rectified, let's be fair the spa is very, vey expensive, my wife had a 25 minute back massage and it cost circa US$100! Drop the prices and don't harass and you'll see more people take it up. Check out - Leave plenty of time to check out, it took me over an hour, stood in midday heat to check out and only just completed before the TUI bus came to collect us. this could be smoothed out I'm sure! Summary We had a fab holiday, and as privileged guest it was worth every penny! We never came across any grumpy or rude staff, I know this get brought up on reviews, but I suppose this is subjective. If you want the hussle an bussle of Payer del Carman and the fab beaches of Player Car, this isn't the place for you, if you want a relaxing holiday, with great food and drink in a lovely location then I would recommend staying here. sorry for the long review, but what I've put here was exactly what I was looking for when I booked the holiday. Top tips, Take mainly Pesos not all US Stay as a privileged guest Book early for restaurants Try room service breakfast on the balcony Don't be put off by the reviews Shout out to Leo in the pool bar and Ivan from the grill, great work guys!

The hotel was in a beautiful location, all the staff were friendly and courteous, my only issue with the room was that it was dark and dated, just needed a refresh and update, but this wouldn't stop me recommending it to anyone. Overall we had a fabulous time at the hotel.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at this hotel. Rooms are spacious and immaculate. We booked an ocean view room and got a free upgrade to privileged. This gave us access to private beach, bar and a separate restaurant. Staff are so welcoming and can’t do enough for you. The animation team are fabulous with lots of planned activities around the pool and in the evening. These guys work so hard for you to enjoy your holiday. Delmi, Emilio, Arturo, Yael, Leslie, Jared and Luis make your holiday. Definitely recommend.

Very well organized hotel with friendly service, staff and employees, clean spacious rooms, wide choice at the buffets, well maintained restaurants with tasty food. A wide choice of facilities within the resort where everyone can find something to their liking, young and old, sporty, less sporty, there is something for everyone. A rich day and evening program with sports, games, dance, live music, evening performances by professional dancers, a truly top team, highly recommended. The entertainment during the day was provided down to the last detail by a fantastic top team. thanks to Luis, Jared, Emilio, Yael, Delmi and Lesley who always gave everything of themselves and contributed to a very beautiful memory. I'd say keep up the good work, it's really great regards, Inke en Darah

I'm writing this a year later as I'm on my 2023 holiday and found my review in my drafts. To be fair it is a good excersize in comparing this years holiday. We went to this same hotel in 2021 and decided due to Covid issue we would just return as we enjoying it so much the previous year and the second time was even better. The entertainment team are amazing, from morning till night there energy never dropped. The children's entertainment was superb but the peice de resistance was the evening shows, absolutely top notch l, The Lion King was out standing, disney was a fave of my son. Restaurants are fine with a good selection, you have to book the day before to ensure a reservation. We upgraded to preferred which was a nice treat as you get a slightly better room and use of one extra restaurant, not neccerssery for a good stay but if you can afford it then worth while. Pools are clean, a little cold one day but they put the heaters on and they were fine. We were there for Hallowean and the face painting and day of the dead festival was really good fun. I guess if I am being critical I would of liked a little extra shine to make me feel like it is 5 star treatment, but I am be super picky. I would highly recommend this hotel and will look out for them when booking our next trip away.

Visited for a week in August with Husband & 20 yr old Son. Public areas of hotel really clean & welcoming, pool & beach area very well kept. Bar areas also well kept & friendly & evening entertainment was excellent..very professional in the theatre! On the downside we stayed in standard rooms & they were clean & large but very dated, definitely needed a refurb. Never seemed to be hot water in the morning only in the evening. Restaurants were clean & never crowded (nice touch to be taken to your table), but food choices for lunch & evening meal were poor in the buffet restaurants. Nice to have the burger bar available & again this was never packed. We didn't try the Mexican or Italian restaurants so can't comment on those. Hotel in nice gated area with Marina, bars, restaurants & shops around it. Overall good holiday but if we went back we would choose different hotel.

We were only able to stay for 3 full days, but we had a wonderful time. Everything was very clean, staff was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable of the area. There was plenty to do without ever getting bored. The beach was beautiful and the staff made sure to keep it looking so. Only downside was the time that the pools closed, but I understand since they have to have a lifeguard on duty (plus, it'd probably be a bit too cold at night). Overall, great experience, and we would come back!
