This is my 3rd visit to the Hard Rock Puerto Vallarta. Everyone is hard working and doing their best to make your trip enjoyable during a global pandemic. I would specifically like to recognize Elizabeth and her kindness to me. She answered all of my questions about Mexico and did it with a smile while keeping me hydrated all day long on the beach. I appreciate you!
We have been to all 5 Hard Rock All-Inclusive Resorts in the last 18 months. This one, we have been to twice, and is our favorite. Why? The best beach, best service, and best staff! Our butlers Uri, Gerardo, and Memo were absolutely amazing. They took care of dinner reservations for us, spa, salon, and bali bed reservations, as well as reserving us lounge chairs on the beach. They checked on us regularly and were incredibly pleasant men! Cerezo and Gerry on the beach are now lifelong friends. They immediately get to know you and bring you drinks without even asking. We have already planned 2 trips back in 2021.
I visited the Puerto Rico Hardrock to attend a wedding with my sister. I did not plan the trip so I didn't know what to expect. The staff was incredibly friendly, Alda, one of the activity directors was informative and helpful. I would recommend staying at the Hardrock, and planning some activities nearby. We were able to zipline, but SO many other activities were available nearby. Alda recommended snorkeling, or hiking, there were also private island excursions. Sea kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding were available on-site.
First, the TLDR version: We have been to 5 Hard Rock Resorts and we would rank this one #2 of 5, only behind the magnificent property in Punta Cana. We had a great time and service was beyond excellent. This resort is much smaller than Punta Cana, so if you think Punta Cana is too large, this is likely the place for you. Our ranking of the 5 Hard Rocks we have been to: 1. Hard Rock Punta Cana 2. Hard Rock Vallarta 3. Hard Rock Orlando 4. Hard Rock Heaven 5. Hard Rock Riviera Maya Fatboy Information: I’m a big guy at about 6’0” and 400 lbs. I did not attempt to lay down on the pool-side chairs. In a previous trip to Punta Cana, weighing about 370 lbs, I had no problems with the chairs. At 400 lbs, I was concerned. The chairs in Ciao and Frida have arms on them, but I still fit in them. I wasn’t 100% comfortable, and I wish they had alternate chairs without arms. Inside Ipanema, The Market, and Zen, there were no issues with seating. The theater seating was also friendly to someone my size. About our room: We merged 2 weeks of Legendary Membership to get 1 shared presidential suite with 4 family members. We had a master bedroom and two allegedly queen beds that looked more like double beds. The master shower was glass on the side facing the ocean and had a glass door. The main room was comfortable with a table that seated 6. We never actually checked to see if the couch pulled out, and there were two side chairs. The master had a huge balcony that looked out onto the theater where shows occurred each evening. The other rooms had a narrow 2 ft deep balcony meant for opening the sliding doors to get air into the room. About our butler service: We had an excellent experience with Hard Rock Butler / Concierge Service. They are connected to the room via WhatsApp and it was a great new way to communicate. They helped us at check-in, check-out, handled our room service, reserved our poolside / bali bed spots, scheduled our spa visits, made our dinner reservations, restocked our refrigerator, and even made the extra effort to come up to our room to check on a bird that temporarily got stuck on our balcony. They were available each morning when we woke up. They texted us when they were about to leave at night, usually 10:45 PM. The level of personal service was excellent, and I highly recommend the butler services at this resort. The butler staff members who went above and beyond the call of duty to help us were Gerardo (perhaps the butler supervisor?), Uri, Frank (Francisco), Jazz, and Dani. We loved them all and we would request them again if we went. Restaurant Service: We were generally happy with the restaurant service. One server at Ipanema knew that we didn’t know what we want, so he brought us an assorted meat plate, along with bread, baked potatoes, and steamed vegetables. The restaurant servers appeared to have been the best-of-the-best that were kept during coronavirus. Wine was poured correctly, food was served from the same side each time, drinks were replaced immediately. The language of all persons in the restaurants was excellent and easily understood. Pool-side Service: The pool-side wait staff was below average for a hard rock. They didn’t seem to care about tips, and they seemed to be running a travel route about once per hour. They would not bring food to the chairs, alleging that there was a coronavirus prohibition. The drinks that they brought were light pours, and we got much better balance in our drinks if we just moved over to the swim-up bar. At a normal Hard Rock Resort, I tend to lose about $30 to pool-side tips in one week. I did not tip a single dollar all week to the pool-side team. Spa service: These two massage therapist were absolutely excellent! My wife and I got a couples massage from Veronica and Monika. It was the most relaxing couples massage I have had at any resort. The hydrotherapy was not worth the effort. It was just a hot pool and a cold pool. Rhythms of the Night: If you can only go on one excursion, this should be it. We should have paid $149 per person, but we used a resort deal and paid $149 for each couple. I wish I would have paid the $199 so that I could have the VIP wristband. The excursion involves a hard core drinking party boat and each boat has its own entertainment. Ours was a set of 5 guys dancing / lip syncing to a lot of 1980s music with a heavy emphasis on Michael Jackson music. When you arrive at the event, which they said was on an island, there is an almost magical feel. There is a sound system playing jungle noises, various entertainers in costume, and beautiful night time lighting. The show is fantastic. The benches we sat on for the show could have been better. The feet for two our our family did not touch the ground on the benches. VIP wrist bands got to sit up front, surrounded by the action. After the show there is a buffet with a good variety of food. Tequila Tasting: This is only available on Friday nights and cost us $25 per person. Our sommelier was Victor. I really liked this guy. He explained everything at length. Because Friday was our first day, it changed the rest of our trip and made us really think about what we were drinking during the week. There were 12 total people in the room, so it was an intimate setting. The people we met that night were very cordial acquaintances for the rest of the vacation. Nightly entertainment: There is an indoor gathering room and an outdoor amphitheater. Both were very comfortable. The night time entertainment team was really good to everyone. The shows included a fire show, Michael Jackson cover, a rock concert, and an illusionist show. If we went in person, there was alcohol and they were very good to us. If we stayed on our balcony, we could still see the show. What we missed: I wish I would have gone out on the jet ski, but that service was not scheduled by the Hard Rock team. I should have just walked out on the beach and paid the vendor in cash. We also wish we had gone on the RZR tour from Vallarta adventures. The reason we decided not to was that it was hot for 3 days in a row. I also want to give a shout out to the two referees of the pool volleyball games, which were held daily. There was a cranky guy who wanted to dispute everything. They handled things fairly and stayed with the assertion that there was only 1 referee....not a referee by consensus. I really like the way they kept it light hearted among some super competitive people.…
