Nestled on a picturesque beachfront and conveniently close to the airport, Wyndham Alltra Vallarta offers a mixed experience. While the resort's cleanliness and friendly staff are frequently praised, the atmosphere might lack vibrancy for some, and the decor can appear dated. Guests appreciate the spacious rooms and ocean vistas, yet some have raised concerns over maintenance and cleanliness. Moreover, despite the allure of various pools and the beach setting, issues with service inconsistency and perceived poor value due to additional costs and unmet expectations regarding food and beverage quality have been flagged by numerous travelers.

I’m writing this review as I sit by the pool half way through my trip. If I don’t do it here I likely won’t when I get home. I read many of the terrible reviews leading up to my trip and was a bit concerned. I don’t often leave reviews but thought I would to share my experience so far. For context, I have probably been to 20-25 all inclusives all over the carribean. This is my first time in Puerto Vallarta and at the Whydham. The weather here is incredible. Beautiful sunny warm days and no rain in sight. Mornings are a little cool but by 10 am it is hot! The ocean is beautiful and can walk for miles in either direction. I know some people complained about the rockiness and waves. It’s the Pacific Ocean so it’s a bit rough and there are some shells/stones on the beach but you can still walk barefoot but just being mindful of where you step. If you want clear blue water and white sand then the carribean sea might be a better option. There are 3 large pools. The one closest to the resort is where most of the activities are and mostly kids and it’s the warmest. The middle pool is where a lot of the condo/timeshare people hang out and it’s a little cooler and the last pool is an infinity pool closest to the ocean and is lovely. It’s also very cold, but refreshing. Here the pools are referred to as the Mexican pool (warm), American pool (cool), Canadian pool( cold).
As far as chairs and availability there are plenty. I came down on the first day around 8 am expecting to have to claim a chair and there was no one around and pretty much all chairs were free. It’s 10:30 am now and things are just starting to pick up but still chairs free on the beach and at the pool. There is one side of the pool that is almost entirely in shade because it’s blocked by the hotel but always plenty of chairs free. That being said I have no idea what the capacity is right now. The resort doesn’t feel busy though. Half is resort guests and the other half is condo guests so they are not part of the all inclusive but do use the amenities. The staff has all be great and always friendly. They keep the resort and pools very clean and are out raking and sifting the beach in the morning to get rid of any garbage and debris. I do tip regularly but don’t feel like I’m getting better service because of it. The staff seems equally attentive to everyone, tipping or not. The room is nice and clean. Beds are comfy but fairly standard. We have a nice ocean/pool view from our balcony.
So far the food has been ok. It’s definitely not the best food I have had at an all inclusive but decent. I get my coffee at the cafe which has been good. I only had breakfast once at the buffet and there were enough options that I feel most people could find something they like. For lunch I have been going to the pool side snack bar and it’s been pretty good. Haven’t been to lunch or dinner at the buffet so I can’t comment on that. Dinners I have been booking at the a la cartes. So far I have been to the sushi, Italian and steak house. All were good but I can see where people are complaining. More about the process of booking and the menu choices than the quality of food. The reservation system is annoying. You go down to the lobby between 8:30-12 on the day of to make your reservation for that night. I have never seen this at a resort before. Most places you can book all your resos for the week on your first day. That being said, I have went down every morning around 8:30 and had no problem getting a reservation and the most I’ve had to wait is about 5 minutes. I feel like the resort could easily change this as it’s mentioned in many reviews and a complaint of many guests. The other thing is the upcharges. This is frustrating. The steakhouse doesn’t have any steak on the menu but then there’s a sign with all the steaks that you can purchase for an extra cost. When I travel to an all inclusive I expect to pay for all my costs up front. This is a bit frustrating but not really affecting my trip. While the menus are a bit small I have had no trouble finding something to order and enjoy. The portions are a little small so I just order a second entree if I’m still hungry. Not a problem.
The sushi restaurant is the only one where I would say is too limited for a meal. More of a spot for appetizers and then go have a meal. The food was good though and the rooftop view at sunset is incredible.
The bottled water situation is something I have also found at other resorts too. They are trying to get away from giving out bottles. There are 4 small bottles in the mini fridge restocked daily and I always bring a reusable water bottle with me on vacation so I just get it refilled at the bar regularly and it’s not a problem.
The alcoholic drinks have been mostly good. We didn’t pay for the premium upgrade so we just get basic brands. If you don’t specify they will use local brands in the drinks but name brands are also available on the basic package if you ask. Smirnoff, tanqueray and lots of others. From what I have heard from other guests the premium is mostly not worth it. It gets you access to the 7 th floor little snack bar and top shelf alcohol but only on that floor from 10am-7 pm I think. You can’t get the top shelf alcohol at the other bars. This makes no sense to me. There’s also been a few issues with consistency. Bars don’t start serving till 11 am but open at 10 am. So one morning I got drinks before 11. The next day they said no not till 11. I think the buffet bar is where you can get drinks a bit earlier. Still figuring this out. Also sometimes they run out of something in particular but then just don’t want to go to another bar/area to restock. Again, not a big deal but easy to fix to make the guest experience more consistent. Little things add up but it is what you make of it. I’m having a great week but if management makes some small changes I think it would make a big difference.
There are iguanas roaming about and occasionally go for a swim in the pool. They also hang out in trees and yesterday one fell out of the tree right by peoples chairs so have an eye for that. We went into marina vallarta to golf and it was a nice course but crocs everywhere. Mostly playing golf in Canada this was a bit surprising for me but you get used to it quick and they seem unbothered by the people. Golf is quite pricy here but it was nice to get out for one round.
Wifi at the resort has been good. No issues video calling or doing most things on my phone.
Lastly, the resort is on the quieter side. Not much in the way of entertainment daytime or evening. The most action is by the first pool during the day and there’s some decent beach volley happening in the morning. I’m here for a quiet vacation and not to party so it suits me fine. If you’re looking for nightlife I feel you will be disappointed. Overall, puerto Vallarta is beautiful, safe and friendly people. The resort is nice and there are some things within walking distance if you want to eat off resort or check out some shops. Very safe to walk around and take taxis/ubers.

I will start to say that this was the best experience at a resort my wife and I have ever had. It was our honeymoon, and it didn't matter. The treatment from the staff went to every single member in order to create the best experience possible. It's a family resort, and didn't lack great seperation when the adults came to party.
The room exceeded expectations with a beautiful amount of marble and granite, a tub that overlooks your entire room with a curtain to ensure privacy. The bed to the patio is a solid 400 square feet, with an amazing ocean view! Even the tropical rooms have an amazing view( if you're looking to save a little money).
The food never disappointed, every restaurant had the most amazing selection of food. Now for the best part of the trip; the staff were absolutely amazing. I can't stress that enough. I will include a list of names, as these people were so dedicated to ensuring our ultimate happiness. First when you pull in we have the bell fellas, Miguel and Gerardo. You may be greeted by others as the hotel must have hundreds of staff. Miguel ensured our safety and security anytime we left. At the hotel bar, Daniel Hernandez will make you the best cocktails and make sure you're well hydrated.
Within the resort there's a list of amazing servers, make sure to meet- Fernando, Jesus, Samuel and both Albertos who are bartenders by the first pool. Anybody who rolls with Fernando will have his wonderful morales and great service skills. Now let's talk beach side bar waiters and servers...
Gustavo Pelayo, Arturo and the big man Gerardo will be getting the best made drinks from Crestencscio and Elmer. That combo there will assure an amazing experience.
Don't forget to get your pool activities from Paola, Andrea and the other amazing ladies!
There were so many other great staff members, just make sure to get some of their perspective, they are all unreal people.
Ten out of ten would go again!

I believe this property was a former Dreams, but has been taken over by Wyndham in the middle of October.

The best part our stay was the staff at the buffet. Victorino, Fernando and Miguel were so entertaining and so efficient. I think that this property has potential and maybe we visited too early in the takeover. The food was so disappointing for the monies that we paid. The caliber of the specialty restaurants are not up to par. By the end of the stay, I was eating mostly fruit, as the buffet food was so unappealing. The disorganization, lack of accurate information and lack of evening entertainment made for great disappointment. The electronic board listing the daily events and restaurants which were opened, was highly inaccurate and with each staff you asked, you got different answers for the same question. The quality of the bikes are nonexistent. The seats broke on two different bikes and had to be wheeled back to the property. We ended up renting bikes from a bike rental. Your website lists complimentary shuttles to local areas, but apparently not. The WIFI was pretty much nonexistent. For your beach activities, there should be a location near the beach where you can access the bogie boards and kayaks.
There were no robes, as listed on your website. We never did manage to use the room service, as no one would answer the phones. We were two couples who booked two rooms. In the room with the two beds, one of the beds had no adequate lighting for reading in bed and no electrical outlets near that bed. Our room with the king bed was fantastic with a fantastic view, but still with no robes. In past, we've stayed at the Marival, next door and the food and food choices were far superior. We are not difficulty or picky people, but we've stayed at far better resorts and for far less money. Like I said, I believe that there is potential at this location, but more work needs to be done.

We visited this resort last December, and when we needed a winter escape in February decided to come back! We really enjoy the people, the property, the beach, and the relaxed vibe!

The staff was absolutely great. From bartenders, entertainment by the pools, and waiters, there was nothing you couldn’t get accomplished just by asking. My husband was very interested in expanding his Spanish vocabulary and the staff was always willing and happy to give him a lesson. By the end of the week the staff felt like friends: the ENTIRE entertainment staff with their great energy: Alex, Andrea, Belen, Teresa,
Carmen, and Susanna,
Monica & Paloma in the coffee bar, Erick serving drinks at the pool, Gillberto, Vittoriano, Caesar, Mario, Ronaldo, David, and Elizabeth, and Fernando in the restaurants (David recommended the delicious jamaica margarita on Friday with the Mexican dinner, Elizabeth and Fernando remembered us from our last visit in December and helping us improve our Spanish speaking skills)! We enjoyed the guest yoga instructor, Kathy, and the yoga on the beach every morning!

The rooms are huge, with a mini Jucuzi on the balcony, soaker tub in the room, walk in shower with a rainfall shower head, and the AC works very well. It was very comfortable to relax in when our northern skin needed a break from the sun.

The pools are large and the property is beautiful! The warmest is by the lobby and cooler by the beach. They were busy, but never too crowded like we’ve felt at other resorts. The pools were kept very clean with people activity cleaning them every morning. We loved the swings at the cabana bar, and the

The food at each restaurant was delicious, our favorites were the fish tacos at lunch at the Mexican restaurant and the mahi mahi for dinner at the Mediterranean, Mexican, and Italian a la cart restaurants (prepared differently at each restaurant). The sushi was also good and the view from the sushi restaurant was spectacular!

The beach is walkable in both directions. We saw humpback whales almost every day! There are also baby turtle releases by volunteer groups regularly up and down the beach in the evening!

As others say, This is not a “party” resort. The shows and evening events are finished by 10pm. It is a perfect place to come to relax and enjoy! We will go back again!

I was worried after reading the reviews but we had a fabulous stay at Wyndham Alltra Vallarta!

*The premises are exceptionally clean, including rooms, pool areas, lobby etc. The staff are even continually cleaning the pool of leaves and debris that fall in.
Loved the room with the partial ocean view and tub on deck which we used! We loved that the patio doors open all the way, such a delight to listen to the ocean from your bed! The junior suite was spacious and the room fridge always stocked. Towels were always available and in the evening restocked if used during the day.

*One problem is people in other rooms smoking on their decks and the smell of weed and cigarette smoke wafting in the air even though it is a non smoking facility!

*We loved the infinity pool area as it was quiet and we could enjoy the sound of the ocean waves rather than lots of loud music. Appreciated that personal music was not allowed around the pools and beach. No issues with abundance of towels or chairs and umbrellas anywhere on resort. The only drawback to beach area is the long walk to the bathrooms.

*The food was great with a wide variety of choices in the buffet area for all meals and the ala carte restaurants were good. You needed to reserve the ala carte restaurants in the morning but there was plenty of time to do so, reservations started at 8:30 and went until about 10:00 with very little line ups. There was no wait time at all to enter the buffet.
We did have a few days when buffet was not open, but no reservations were needed on those days for the ala carte restaurants.
Room service is 24 hours per day and we used in on the night we arrived. Wait time was only 30 minutes and it arrived warm.
The coffee shop was a great spot!
Would have loved to have had ice cream available some days.

*All the staff were very friendly and welcoming at restaurants, bars, pool and beach areas. It would have been nice to have been provided with a little more information from front desk staff when we arrived as we did not know there was a snack place by beach that could be used rather than just the buffet. A general overview of the resort would have been nice. Perhaps a large map with facilities on one of the walls would be an asset.
*As well we were not made aware that there were agents available for us to ask questions about excursions, return flights and times for bus pick up etc. even though I asked the front desk.
Overall a very positive experience and we would definitely return!

The service was IMPECCABLE. No other word. Absolutely superb. The only things that make this not a 5 star review was the bathroom was only separated by a curtain, the mirrors had some black spots on them, the shower could have been cleaner, and the wifi was not good at all. At the same time if you really want wifi pay for a data plan or come down to the hotels wifi zone. The staff were incredibly attentive and the food was AMAZING. we are huge foodies so good is really important to us and it was great! Atmosphere was very good. Spa was AMAZING, activities were really nice and the beach was relatively clean. They do a very good job of keeping the outdoor areas clean, and they have great recommendations on food and drinks. Excursion accommodations are also very good. No hassle whatsoever. Would definitely recommend this place. Special shout out to Oscar, Elizabeth, Sergio, Angelica, Roselita, Chino (nickname), and Erick for incredible service the entire time. Honestly all staff were amazing and deserve the best. Great place to come if you’re looking for a quieter vacation. The people who look after your bags at the hotel are also great at checking luggage weight and the concierge is amazing for anything you need. Come here for a great time.

We booked this resort as we thought since they allowed children there would be more activities going on such as shows, market night, etc. Man was I wrong. The resort should not be open. Advertising says it has multiple restaurants, but most nights only 1 is open and buffet. Very little nightly entertainment other than 1 or 2 nights of live music for 1.5hrs. Just when everyone was enjoying music it shut down by 9:30 plus there were only enough chairs/couches for approximately 20 people. Also, around the pools there is not enough lounge chairs for all guests. Other than the buffet, there is not enough staff for proper service around pools or beach. Rooms are dated and in need of updating. When we arrived nobody even welcomed us or let us know where check-in was located. It was hard to notice the 3 desks tucked away in the corner, which was the reception area. Only 1 washroom around pool area and it was always very dirty. Not once during vacation did anyone call and ask if the room was okay. The room we booked was given away because of our late arrival caused by Westjet flight delay; instead we ended up with a couple beds in our room and were told it was of equal value. The whole experience was a nightmare. We looked forward to finally getting a week away and then once we checked in, we just couldn't wait to go home. Not happy at all!

Nothing special here! This was our ninth trip to PV & have been in seven different resorts including 3 others in this area. We would go back to any of the others much sooner than the Wyndham again. We are not that picky but expected a lot more from this resort with it's rating. The rooms are quite dated but that doesn't bother us. The food & drinks were our biggest complaint. The food was always cold even when we we're one of the first to dinner in the buffet. At breakfast it was impossible to get a good glass of juice. it all seemed to be watered down or mixed with a fake juice. Even the Mimosas were hard to drink. The Bacon was so tough it was like chewing on a piece of fried leather. Men were not allowed in the Buffet without a sleeved shirt because they didn't want arm pit hair to fall in the food!
The staff for the most part were really good but they were forced to follow all the crazy rules of the resort. We got there a day late due to missing a connecting flight. they admitted to renting out our room the night we missed so we though maybe we could get a couple hrs. extended checkout the day we left but we had to pay extra for that.
The WiFi in the entire resort sucked. Everyone in the resort was complaining about it so it wasn't just our phones. I had my own data package so I was ok but my wife was always struggling to get a connection.
The pool area was nice but the residents of the Villa Magna & the rental suites were up who knows when to snag all the good lounge areas with the umbrellas. We could always find loungers but not the good ones which often sat empty most of the day with towels draped over them.
There's plenty of other good options for resorts in the area, we will definitely look elsewhere next time.

Evening entertainment is somewhat limited. They have a circus type show, some fire dances, a Michael Jackson imitator and some type of Mexican dance theatre. Most shows only last 45 minutes, but some are quite entertaining.
