Stayed here for two nights for a special getaway. The location was great. Right be the beach and we walked all the way to Gastown and through downtown back to the hotel. The breakfast at the hotel was very good. Would go back anytime. The hotel however is a bit old in the tooth. The room was small which is...

I am so happy that we have been a part of your bucket list and that you can check it off your list (but hope that you will return again now that you have had the experience). The WI-FI was acting up on the night you were here but all those issues have been resolved and in fact have upgraded...

Charming old hotel in English Bay, within walking distance to Stanley Park, seawall, and Downtown. Loved the atmosphere, old-fashioned charm, the bar, lounge with wonderful views and live music. They have a great formula - seems as if it hasn't changed over the years and that is what makes it so appealing. Please don't change. I asked for a room...

Thank-you for taking the time to write a few comments about your stay with us. The location is often written about for all the reasons you mentioned. Yes, being a heritage site hotel we try very hard to keep true to our roots. I was very happy to read that you enjoyed your room. We do not offer the view...

A hotel that features personal service that feels like it is set in another time. Having lived only five blocks from the Sylvia years ago, staying here is always a joyful return to the old neighbourhood. For those who aren't returning to the old neighbourhood, I am sure you will like it as well - for tourists the location on...

Welcome back to the area. As you mentioned it is a great area of Vancouver so close to everything and right across the street from the beach and views of English Bay. I hope that you will return often. We work very hard to offer great personal service which has been lost in some larger hotels.

We asked for a sea view even though we were in the cheapest room, and they kindly obliged. The views were stunning. Bathroom could have been bigger and it was an odd layout, but clean and well equipped. An easy location to walk to Stanley Park and you can get the 23 bus to the city centre. The bar is...

I am so happy to read that the staff were able to find you a room with a view. They are all in such high demand that we do not offer view rooms on third party web site like expedia. For view rooms you must call us directly, and even then we cannot guarantee a view but will do our...

The building is very old but that's part of the appeal. Many "old school" features including the rooms, safety deposit box, lobby, etc. The staff is the best and make the whole experience more positive. They are helpful, knowledgeable and just very friendly. The location is great and I highly recommend this hotel.

Sylvia Hotel is quaint and as a girlfriend said, it has a "clubby" feel to it. Sturdily perched in front of English Bay, it has an all-encompassing view of Stanley Park. Next time we come to Vancouver we'll stay here. Lovely lunch!

2nd time we have stayed here and will come again. This time we got a great deal through BeVancouver. Room was excellent and we also enjoyed the breakfast and spent time in the recently renovated lounge. The location is perfect right on English Bay by Stanley Park. Good for walking. Nearby restaurants and bars offer lots of choice. The help...

Superlative location (buskers on the beach)! Lots of tradition, lots of views. If you stay here, you won't want to stay anywhere else in Vancouver. BTW: excellent restaurant. only setback is slow elevators, but what the hey.

The Sylvia has it all: a great location, a charming ambiance, the oldest cocktail lounge in the city, the perfect location, and nice rooms. The Sylvia has a real sense of elegance to it, which I think many newer hotels might lack. Very charming, the Sylvia, and highly recommended.

We had a queen room in this older style hotel. Staff were efficient and very welcoming. The location is close to Stanley Park, Davie Street, English Bay. A short walk takes you to the False Creek Ferries for drops at the Granville Market and locations inside False Creek. Good restaurants, ice cream and bike rental locations are nearby. A very...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
