The Sylvia is ...hard to describe. The rooms(we had a pretty basic queen room) are nothing fancy but clean, kept clean and more than adequate. There is something so charming about the Sylvia that is hard to quantify- friendly staff? Dogs in the foyer? Views of English Bay and immediate access to Stanley park? I don't know. All I know...

Beautiful building right across from the beach and close to Stanley Park. The rooms aren't quite what you could get at a new hotel, and the water pressure leaves something to be desired but that is to be expected when staying somewhere that feels like it comes from an earlier time.

Thank-you for your comments, I will look into your comment about the water pressure and this is not something I have heard before. We are a heritage site hotel that is over 104 years old and right on English Bay. I hope we will be able to serve you again on your next trip to Vancouver.

I have stayed at the Sylvia Hotel many times, usually with friends, and have quite enjoyed it. This time, I came alone for a two-day break and even upgraded to a suite. I had trouble with the Internet always disconnecting the first night I was there and the TV was fuzzy. I called the desk and someone came up. He...

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us on this trip. I did not get the message that you wanted me to call you and I am sorry for that and will address that with the front desk team. We work very hard to exceed every guests expectation and in your case we did not hit...

Hotel Sylvia is a very old Hotel and a pleasure to stay at. We Especially liked having a well made breakfast while enjoying the view of English Bay. They charge for parking but let us keep it there for our day out as long as we didn't stay overnight again.

A trip to Vancouver for us and two dogs can be grossly expensive with so called "dog friendly" hotels charging anywhere from $20 to $60 per dog per night. Never mind the dogs are clean friendly and non shedding. The Sylvia charges $0 per night per dog. That's right - $0. As well, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the...

You are correct most hotels do charge a lot for pets and we do not, we feel pets are a part of the family and we welcome them. We do offer guests rooms that we do not allow pets for those guests with allergies. Thank-you for staying with us and taking the time to write a review on this site....

The Sylvia is over 100 years old (character), modestly priced, friendly and located on English Bay very close to Stanley Park. With a view of the bay from the dining room and bar. My husband and I have stayed there at various times over the past 48 years, coming on it by accident in 1968 by looking in the AMA...

The Sylvia Hotel is a landmark in Vancouver on the shores of English Bay. You can't beat the location! The staff were friendly and helpful and provided excellent service. The food at the restaurant was very good and was reasonably priced in comparison to other comparable restaurants in the area. The only thing to note with the hotel is it...

Yes, we are a heritage site hotel and over 104 years old with all the charm that comes with that. The no air conditioning is rarely an issue if ever, however I will look into the plugs you mentioned. We cannot add any more outlets but i will see what other options we have to help improve that situation. The...

A hotel that's full of character and well situated for English Bay and Stanley Park. Excellent bar with good food and drink and a lovely view (if it isn't raining). However don't expect too much from the rooms. There's plenty of space and they are comfortable enough but they aren't exactly modern. But modern rooms or not this a hotel...

First off, this is a heritage property. If you need bleeding edge this is not the place for you. If you want to slow down and step back into a classier time, this is your place. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
