I love this hotel. The location and views are unbeatable - it is right on English Bay beach. I had the most incredible view right across the bay. And I could walk to a bunch of restaurants including the Cactus Club right on the beach. The room was large and comfortable and the Sylvia's staff couldn't have been friendlier. I...

Had a great stay here en route to NZ. The hotel is in a beautiful location, not too large and very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and the room was super comfortable. I would have no hesitation in returning. I loved the quiet surroundings and English Bay on the other side of the road. The bus stop for the...

Happy New Year! thanks for staying with us on your way to NZ. I hope you have a safe trip. I agree with you the location is great for everyone, close to downtown but far enough away to be quiet and have the beach right across the street. I hope you do come back again so we can serve you...

We stayed here after reviewing comments from TripAdvisor. We really enjoyed the view at the restaurant, the location was really nice. That said, when we checked in we asked for the higher floor and were told the rooms weren't available. We ended up on the second floor right above the restaurant with live music. We couldn't sleep until the program...

Thank-you for staying with us, I am sorry you booked so late and we did not have the room available on a higher floor. The music ends at 10:00 and we rarely if ever get a complaint about hearing the music in the rooms above, but I will look into it to see if there is anything we can do...

Once again we stayed at the Sylvia Hotel over Christmas. We love this hotel, the staff are so friendly, the location can not be beat! We were lucky enough to have a room on the very top floor overlooking English Bay, a little slice of heaven looking out on that view in the morning with a cup of coffee. We...

We stayed 2 nights in late November, very welcoming atmosphere, We dined in both nights and had great meals, the service was first class. Our room was what one would expect for such a old hotel but it was spotless. The view of English Bay was from the side, just wish the weather had been better. We have a booking...

I hope the weather is much better when you return in late January, so far the cold this fall and winter has been more than normal. Thank-you for your kind words about your experience. The housekeepers will like the fact you mentions how spotless the hotel was. See you next month and please travel safely.

Stayed here with friends in November for one night. Such a wonderful location. Comfortable bed, clean room and site, friendly staff. Lots of charm. Did not have a full meal there, but enjoyed the appetizers we had in the lounge. I recommend this place, no hesitation.

I visited this place with a friend for dinner. The bar area had been recently renovated and it looks very nice. This is a hotel in the old fashioned style and the renovations were true to this. The food was very nice, we shared the steak and salmon combo, and it was washed down with a nice French sparking wine....

Both local friends and friends who were visitors suggested the Sylvia. The amazing location I won't bother explaining, but it was. I came over on a ferry-bus from Victoria, which was a hell ride on the 2 bus legs. Next time a helicopter or sea plane, which the manager (Ross) at Sylvia told me is not that expensive. Anyway, my...

I'm writing this review as I lay in the comfortable bed at the Sylvia. This hotel is over 100 years old and it's just seeping with vintage charm and originality! Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
