What a gem. Stayed here to fulfill a bucket list item. Love the ambiance. We had a suite on the third floor corner facing English Bay. Get the ocean view. It's well worth it. The room was very spacious, well equipped And very clean and comfortable. The staff were very cheery and accommodating. We loved it. The bar was awesome...

"We love this place" So do I. Thank-you for your well written review, it is like I wrote it myself. I know other guests will see the value in your comments. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and took advantage of the Food and Beverage areas of the hotel. The live music is every Wednesday, Thursday and...

This original hotel is oozing with charm and character. Watching the sun set over English Bay from the cocktail lounge is so relaxing. There's every form of transportation in sight, and all types of healthy outdoor goings on.

Thank-you for taking the time to write a review on this site. I enjoy reading reviews of guests that appreciate the heritage and location of the Sylvia Hotel. I agree with you that the views from the restaurant and lounge are the best in Vancouver (my opinion). Please do return agian so we can serve you again.

The front table wasn't really polite but the Luther parts were great. The bed was clean and comfy. You could see the English Bay's beach from the restaurant which highlighted this trip. I will come back

She's a bit on the tired side and the elevators are a bit wonky but this just adds to the fun experience of this charming old hotel. Lovely staff at the desk and so quiet that I'd swear it was empty but I know it was completely booked the weekend we were there. No extra charge for your dog, they...

My husband and I stayed four nights while visiting my brother in Vancouver. We were able to reserve the last room, so I wasn't expecting much. We were at the end of a hall and had a lovely partial view of the ocean and sea wall heading toward the Granville Island ferry dock. The location was great for us, between...

"Home away from home", Very high praise. Thank-you for staying with us for four nights. I always appreciate it when guests take the time to mention the staff and the hard work they do to exceed every guests expectation. The restaurant and lounge have great specials and the best views in the city. You are welcome anytime to return so...

Stayed here for two nights for a special getaway. The location was great. Right be the beach and we walked all the way to Gastown and through downtown back to the hotel. The breakfast at the hotel was very good. Would go back anytime. The hotel however is a bit old in the tooth. The room was small which is...

I am so happy that we have been a part of your bucket list and that you can check it off your list (but hope that you will return again now that you have had the experience). The WI-FI was acting up on the night you were here but all those issues have been resolved and in fact have upgraded...

Charming old hotel in English Bay, within walking distance to Stanley Park, seawall, and Downtown. Loved the atmosphere, old-fashioned charm, the bar, lounge with wonderful views and live music. They have a great formula - seems as if it hasn't changed over the years and that is what makes it so appealing. Please don't change. I asked for a room...

Thank-you for taking the time to write a few comments about your stay with us. The location is often written about for all the reasons you mentioned. Yes, being a heritage site hotel we try very hard to keep true to our roots. I was very happy to read that you enjoyed your room. We do not offer the view...

A hotel that features personal service that feels like it is set in another time. Having lived only five blocks from the Sylvia years ago, staying here is always a joyful return to the old neighbourhood. For those who aren't returning to the old neighbourhood, I am sure you will like it as well - for tourists the location on...

Welcome back to the area. As you mentioned it is a great area of Vancouver so close to everything and right across the street from the beach and views of English Bay. I hope that you will return often. We work very hard to offer great personal service which has been lost in some larger hotels.

We asked for a sea view even though we were in the cheapest room, and they kindly obliged. The views were stunning. Bathroom could have been bigger and it was an odd layout, but clean and well equipped. An easy location to walk to Stanley Park and you can get the 23 bus to the city centre. The bar is...

I am so happy to read that the staff were able to find you a room with a view. They are all in such high demand that we do not offer view rooms on third party web site like expedia. For view rooms you must call us directly, and even then we cannot guarantee a view but will do our...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
