We stayed here in May this year. 4 days of glorious sunshine and temp in the 80's. So a location just across from English Bay Beach was just perfect. This was a wonderful (and sometimes eccentric) place to be in the evenings and with the great bus service to downtown was not at all inconvenient for our daily sightseeing. Vancouver...

Yes May was a great month for weather and this year was as good as many in the past, I was happy you stayed with us. Our location is mentioned often for all the reasons you listed and more. We are a heritage site so our bathrooms are small but very clean and our windows do open to help keep...

This hotel is in a great location and is in a really cool historic building. There are views of the water and the beach is directly across the street. There is easy access to downtown and is within walking distance of both downtown and Stanley park (not to mention there is a hop on hop off bus stop right outside...

Thank-you for taking the time to write a review. Our location is very convenient for services, downtown and transportation. I do feel my crew do a great job to exceed guests expectations and I am sure they will be proud to read your comments. We do have many rooms sizes and rates and only put the smallest rooms on third...

Went with a team so very accommodating to room sizes and further complications of being a large group. We went swimming in the ocean (which is only a walk across the street) , they supplied us with beach towels and were very friendly even as we returned sopping wet. Then outside of course is beautiful and the location is amazing...

I hope that your entire group enjoyed their stay. The beach across the street is popular (not everyone goes in for a swim) but those who do enjoy it. Our location is often mentioned because people are amazed how convenient we are to everything. You are correct our bathrooms are all small as the hotel is a heritage site so...

Location across from English Bay is the Sylvia's strongest suit. On-site parking is convenient in a congested area. We found our room tired and dated, with dim hall and room lighting. Old power outlets would not hold plugs well, were awkwardly located (or already deployed) for charging phones etc. Windows were open for fresh air, since there is no A/C....

Many guests comment how much they like the fact that the windows all open to cool the room instead of the forced air from an AC unit. I will be discussing your comment with my front desk crew about stating your room number as that is not a part of our regular practice and I thank-you for mentioning it. I...

Great Olde English style hotel in a fantastic location overlooking English Bay, across the road from the beach (off sorts) and restaurants everywhere close by. Staff very friendly and helpful, we arrived on a morning flight from Australia (14 hrs) and they checked us into our room several hours early.

Welcome for Australia we are so happy that you booked with us. I hope that you enjoyed Vancouver and will tell you friends back home about your stay at the Sylvia and your time in Vancouver. Thank-you for writing a few comments for other guests to read.

very comfortable hotel, small room but clean. Elevators were temperamental but not a problem. Awesome location to see the fireworks. Great to stroll out of the door and be almost in Stanley Park. Great coffee shop on Denman St close by and also laundry wash and fold service at end of holiday to not go home with a smelly suitcase.

"Great location" two headers in a row form two different guests saying the same thing is great to read. We must be doing something right. Location is fantastic and I believe it is matched by the service and value you receive when booking with us. Always call the hotel directly if wanting the best rates and room types. Hurry back

We spent 5 days at Hotel Sylvia. The hotel staff are delightful. The hotel is perfectly positioned on English Bay just next to Stanley Park and on the beach. The hotel has a very relaxed atmosphere which was perfect for our family of 2 Adults, 2 teens and an 11 year old. The rooms are generously sized, our accommodation comprised...

I have not one bad thing to say about this place. The rooms were very clean, we had a great view of the Bay, the staff was exceptionally friendly and we booked online for a great deal in the middle of summer! I will recommend this hotel to everyone travelling to Vancouver!

Many hotels in Vancouver are now very corporate but the Sylvia is different, it really feels like it's part of a neighborhood in the city. We are a heritage site, and we have been a part of the city for 104 years. I believe we are the only hotel in the city that does not charge extra for pets, (some places charge $25-35.00 per night per pet). You are correct we do have many room sizes and shapes so if you come often you may...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
