Value - not high brow to be clear - if you are accustomed to the 4 seasons this aint it ( sorry Chris, no offense) but a decent building with a taken care over the years quality, Old hotels and motels can have a "run down" quality - the Buchan is NOT THAT - it is well maintained established, untypical...

Great little old hotel with character. Awesome Italian bistro below. Quiet west end location. Walked to and from bc place several times. About 3km each way. Would stay here again and explore more of nearby Stanley park and robson st.

A well run, quiet property just off Denman and close to English Bay, Coal Harbour and Stanley Park. Very reasonably priced with helpful and friendly staff. Excellent access to restaurants and public transit.

Hotel clean and staff very friendly but hotel in need of decoration. No breakfast facilities available. Good Italian restaurant immediately next door. A wonderful location in a tree-lined residential area.

The Buchan is in a very favourable location with it being right on the outskirts of Stanley Park, and a short stroll to English Bay. The room was ok, it was a decent size, the only problem was the bed was really firm and it was incredibly hot. The addition of AC and a softer bed would have made my...

We stayed here for a week and it was, as the title suggests, comfy, cosy and relaxing. The bed was amazing, the room and the hotel itself was very characterful. It wasn't a problem having shared bathrooms as there was always one available. The staff are helpful and it was nice to have the free tea and coffee in the...

The location od this hotel was perfect. Close to everything we wanted to see and visit. Bike rentals everywhere and pakring was 10 bucks a day which is nothing compared to everywhere else in downtown location. The beds were a bit uncomfortable but with the amount of exercise and booze consumed we barely noticed. 2 people in a double bed...

The Buchan is in a great spot and reasonably priced. The rooms offer just what you need and nothing extra and fancy that you pay for and don't need. The common room with tea and coffee is a nice extra. It is one of the two places I stay based on price and availability when I'm in Vancouver once a...

The pillows were very lumpy. But apart from that the bed was very comfortable. The room was very hot. Tried to turn down the radiator but still remained fairly warm though. Opened window and put on fan! But overall our stay was very comfortable with complimentary tea and coffee. Would highly recommend this hotel for any type of trip.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
