We have stayed here numerous times over the years, and seen the hotel go through good times and not so good times. But now it is an absolutely terrific place to stay. As mentioned in previous reviews breakfast at the Cannery is a winner, innovative and delicious. The rooms are spacious, the staff delightful, especially the front desk staff. A special shout out to Stephen who is always so gracious, helpful and friendly. It is so great to see the hotel back to its previous high standards. I look forward to many more stays.

The hotel is in a good location very close to the harbour, Maritime Museum and the Citadel. Easy access to restaurants, pubs and great coffee shops.

The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. I booked a king studio that had a partial harbour view. There was a small couch and kitchenette in the room which was great for drinks and snacks. The layout was a little cramped but the bed was quite comfortable and the wifi was fast.

My only complaint was that the bathroom had a window to the bedroom area and had cheap blinds that were a bit distorted so didn’t offer much privacy.

The pool, hot tub and gym were quite nice though and overall I had a comfortable stay at this hotel. The value for money was solid

Booked this hotel for an overnight staycation. The hotel very kindly upgraded us, as Diamond, to a one bedroom suite a couple of days before arrival. Upon arrival at 2pm we were told our room was ready, so an early check in. Front desk staff very friendly and Diamond status was acknowledged.
Our suite was very nice. It was good to have a separate living room area and the harbour view was excellent (too bad it was so rainy and foggy the first day!). We only ever saw two other guests our entire stay so the hotel was quiet!

Hotel is centrally located in the core downtown area, near to many restaurants, the Boardwalk, Farmers' Market, Citadel Hill, Spring Garden Rd. We didn't use the parking, so cannot comment on that.

Breakfast, free for Diamond members, while appreciated, was underwhelming. The saving grace was the friendly waitress. It was a somewhat depressing experience, as there were only 2 other people in the breakfast area and the offering were a bit on the sparse side and the bacon was a really cheap cut.

Downside was that housekeeping was a little haphazard...no coffee cups in the cupboard, and the room clearly had not been hoovered properly....still pieces of paper and fluff on the carpets and door handles a little dusty.

Overall a good stay and I would recommend but would avoid the breakfast if you are paying. There is a coffee shop and small market/deli across the street.

As others have reported, this is a great location for museums, downtown, the wharf, restaurants and shopping. On the downside, We, too, noticed the hustle of parking on the street to unload luggage and There was no one to assist in unloading the car. Luggage trolleys were available, though, So, I schlepped my luggage onto one of those and pushed it up the ramp into the lobby. Also, the hotel parking was all across busy Hollis street, some in a fenced vacant lot and the rest in a parking garage just past the vacant lot. Not optimal.

The hotel’s restaurant was closed for renovations. Breakfast was a buffet affair in the seating area off the lobby. You can opt out of this and save $20-$30, depending on your room deal. There’s a small Whole Foods-like grocery store next door for muffins, bagels, juice, sandwiches, etc., as well as regular grocery items. (Closer than the parking.)

The front desk guys we dealt with seemed to know the computer side of things but not the hospitality side. None of that sunny, helpful attitude that so many hospitality people have. Not a big deal, but odd in a hotel lobby staff.

Housekeeping is on a request basis, so make sure you make that request when checking in.

The hotel was okay but expect a bit less than your usual Doubletree expectations until these issues and a few others are ironed out.

My boyfriend and I checked into the Hollis this weekend for a quick getaway. The first room we were assigned (the one with the window looking into the shower) was dirty, toothpaste on the counter in the bathroom, sticky stuff on the remote, etc.. I tried wiping some of the smudges off with a washcloth and they came right off... clearly not cleaned. We went back down to the lobby and they gave us a second room without any issues (however, it was not the same room as the first, no window in the bathroom). They offered us a free breakfast for the complications, but we refused as we were just looking for a clean room. We again, went up to the second room to find the exact same mess. It seems as though the cleaners don’t try much at all. This isn’t reassuring anytime, but especially with the pandemic we’re in right now, it should be a top priority. We went back down to the lobby and they checked us out at no charge. The front desk staff was helpful and kind, but we ended up staying at a Delta which was clean with no traces of dirt or previous guests, and it was cheaper. In my opinion, there are many nicer hotels to go that are clean and more cost efficient.

Location is convenient; a block away from the waterfront, plenty of restaurants within a short walking distance, and a bus stop just across the street.

The bed isn't super comfortable; I found it too firm and was a far cry from the heavenly bed we just slept on at an Airbnb we just stayed at in PEI. The sofa bed is no better, although they do have pillow tops they can provide if you call the front desk. Oddly enough though, they do not have extra comforters for the sofa bed, just a holey fleece blanket is provided.

No issues with water pressure or water temperature in the shower. Not a particularly family friendly set up though, due to lack of hand shower, and my toddler wasn't super keen on showering under a rain shower.

Mini fridge, microwave and coffee pot available in the room. My mom didn't find the water hot enough coming from the coffee pot, and unfortunately, the hotel did not have enough hot water kettles to go around.

This hotel is in need of some maintenance. With our luck, the AC was not working during our stay. The room was incredibly warm and stuffy, but when we asked for more bottled water, we were told it was only provided free of charge for your first day of your stay. You'd think the hotel would offer up water for guests as a goodwill gesture when it is 25° outside and the air conditioning isn't working. Apparently Double Tree is too cheap to call in someone to fix this over the weekend, as we have been told the AC will remain down until Monday. There is also a light that did not work in our room, a bathroom door that couldn't lock, our shower head dripped and I think our mini fridge had a leak.

I'd recommend trying to get a room higher up so you can have a nice water view. We were on the fourth floor, had a peekaboo water view, but heard a lot of traffic and partiers at night.

Fitness facilities and a pool/ hot tub are available. I never used it, so can't comment on quality. Earphones for fitness equipment are available at the front desk. Pool looked clean, albeit a bit dated. Extra towels available on pool deck and water cooler available in gym.

Housekeeping also never bothered to come by and, at the very least, empty our garbage. On our first night there, I had a young fellow from Housekeeping come by with one earbud on, and was just very unprofessional.

Free wifi available.

Limited parking available for a fee in a lot across the street.

Toiletries provided include Crabtree & Evelyn shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, body lotion and mouthwash.

The location is wonderful, not very friendly people at the front desk, Trying to pull up in front of the hotel to off load luggage is a pain, there is only one parking spot and its filled 99% of the time. we had to keep driving around the block looking for some where to off load, The parking is in a gravel pit across the street and ifs it full you have to go to paid parking, either way its $25 a night. When we walked into our room is smelled dirty, water stains on lamp shades stains on the ceiling from leaks. We were there 3 days on the 1st day we didn't need house keeping so we had the do not disturb sign on the door on the 2nd and 3rd day NO HOUSEKEEPING, the cart was outside our door from 10am to 4 pm and no body came to give us fresh towels or refresh the coffee. We had a suite and it was roomy, we had a microwave, fridge, sink. With a suite I was expecting maybe some plates or paper towels some cups. There was 2 wine glasses that had plastic around they and we had to wash them because there was dried wine left inside them. For the price we paid it was a let down and we are Hilton Members. We thought members would be treated a little better.

Over charged $147 , more than my original booking.com price

Charged 6 nights parking while i only parked 5.

Reception person promised he will fix it , no replies to my emails and no replies to booking.com customer services team as well.

Room temperature is horrible a nightmare, suffocating, no fresh air , warm weather outside and the aircon will only work as a heater. With no air flow. Disgusting and really annoying, worst sleep ever because of temperature.

Unclean bed sheets and blankets.

The weirdest housekeeping rules ever , have to prebook and must call before 12 pm to request your regular housekeeping. Fresh towels…ect.
No one told us housekeeping needs pre booking on checkin , discovered only after 2 days calling to tell them our room has not been cleaned , they said you never requested it. ( quite a shock) . Asked for service on the call to be told it is now 12:20 and you must request before 12 pm . Very disgusting

Booked this hotel due to location (close to restaurants, waterfront and the citadel) and because the suite can easily accommodate my family of 5.

My major problem was that our room’s sofa bed was broken. I took it out for my son to sleep on and it got stuck, halfway between being a sofa and being a bed. I told the front desk staff, who said maintenance would fix it the next day.

Next day, we left the hotel to enjoy what Halifax has to offer. And when we returned, the sofa bed was not fixed. The front desk staff said that maintenance simply could not fix it, but suggested they’d move us to a new room the following day…we just needed to pack up our stuff and leave it by the door, and the staff would move it to the new room.

The following day, we spent 45-60 minutes packing things up and leaving them by the door. Again, we left for the day. When we returned, the hotel staff said they ‘could not’ move us as they were full (something that they presumably knew the day they told us they’d move us). But they indicated that maintenance was able to force the bed back into a sofa. So at least we could watch tv.

So, for the 4 nights we were there, we could not use the sofa bed as a bed and, for 2 nights, we could not use it as a sofa. I get that furniture breaks, but it’s unacceptable that fact that the sofa bed was essentially useless was completely unacceptable.

In addition, the place is not the cleanest. There was gum under the alarm clock and hair in the shower when we entered the room. And, like many hotels nowadays, housekeeping is not a given…you have to request it 24 hrs in advance.

Finally, the loading/unloading zone space is limited, which means you may have to park a block or more away. This is, obviously, not ideal for families with little ones and multiple pieces of luggage.

When I wrote to the hotel about our experience, I received a seemingly scripted response: “We sincerely appreciate your feedback and we are very sorry we did not exceed your expectations. Your comments will help us as we continually work to improve our guest experience.” That’s it. They’re full, so why care.

Overall, a very disappointing experience. Great location, but not great for families or groups of more than 4. There’s lots of other hotels in the area…I strongly consider trying those, especially if you have little ones.

Stayed 5 nights (501 and 701) and was not impressed. The room had black mold in one corner by the heating system, shower was cold 1 of the 5 nights. No humidifier in the building and the air was very dry causing nose bleeds. The shower had a rain shower head that was dangling from the ceiling. Water was highly softened and was always white and had a strong salt taste. The lobby was always cold, and not worth the breakfast at $16. Parking ($25/night) was an issue for 2 of the 5 nights and needed to park in a garage further down the road with no in and out privileges. The front desk had to issue passes for this garage and does not tell people about this garage or what to do when their lot is full. Not to the normal Hilton standards. Staff appeared new and didn't care. Will not recommend nor stay here again.

There is no specific “smoking area” outside the hotel. As is the case with all public buildings, smokers have to be a certain distance from the entrance (I think it might be 10 feet). I didn’t have to book entrance to the pool area, although things are changing rapidly, so I don’t know if that’s still the case. The main “reduced service” thing I noticed was that all chairs had been removed from the pool area. It makes it very uninviting, if you have to just sit on the concrete floor after leaving the pool - I guess that’s one way of encouraging people not to stick around....
