We were sent here from a sister property where we were assigned a room with no view on the ground floor. In contrast Harbor House has beautiful views of sailboats, and is quiet, comfortable and filled with light. Walking through the neighborhood to town is delightful with picturesque homes, parks and views. Also the occasional skunk!
The Hotel staff made us all feel welcome and the staff became part of our family as well. They all went beyond the call of duty, including front office staff, kitchen staff and behind the scenes staff. Highly recommend anyone looking at an event that includes a number of people or even if it is a couple to use the Harbour House Hotel as their venue. Rooms are very comfortable, clean and close to the Harbor Front. Walking distance to the waterfront, downtown and very easy to get around. Shuttle service also available.
The Harbour House’s charming exterior hides significant issues within. Our room was spacious enough, but the furniture was scratched and looked like it hadn’t been replaced in at least a decade. The bathroom was dark and dated, with terrible lighting, no electrical outlet to plug in a hair dryer or night light, and water that either took ages to get hot or immediately scalded. We were told that the room would not be cleaned during our stay, but that if we needed anything we should ask—except when we requested an extra hand towel, we were told it wouldn’t be available until the evening, and it never actually arrived. (And why couldn’t the rooms be cleaned every day? Staffing shortage? Covid precautions? There was no explanation for the reduction in service, and certainly no adjustment to the room rate.) The breakfast buffet was just so-so, and the wine and cheese tasting was a joke: tiny pours of mediocre wine served with a plate of Ritz crackers and a dish of bright orange cheese spread. Overall, the website depicts a very different hotel from the one we found, and the room rates are way too high for the level of service. Would not stay here again.…
checked in for 7 day stay.. in August 2022... found they ignored request for room with view and then told me there was no possibility of change. In 5 minutes I had found that their outside reservation office found a 4 day stay at the Harbour House was available. All other hotels booked so we could not get out of HH. When I confronted them about having found a better room in their hotel at their reservation line, they then said, oh yeah, for more money you can have the suite with th view. Both the first room and then the suite were charmless rooms, ugly carpeting, faded chairs, no padding. No drawers but an old tv cabinet that had not been refurbished as a closet. Other psuedo antiques throughout. Useless..no drawers, just cubby holes. first room had a miniscule shower and a useless jet tub. the shower would fit anyone over 5Ft 7, a tiny, short space behind a barely functioning cloth shower pane. many jets you could not shut off or control. Second room did have a view, they took until 3 pm check in to tell us which room it was we were moving to.. why the secrecy? The room also was charmless, stains on the sofa, hard floor, no padding to the carpet. Lighting in both rooms was poor. First room ceiling lights but no useful lights in bathroom, the small shower was dark! second room had tiny lamps around, the lamp in the bathroom did not work. The shower in second room was a dribbly single head that was at least controllable. Not luxury at all. Useless jetted tub takes up all the space. And to top it off they told us no service would be provided except for 4th night. so, when we moved to second room, that room was newly made up and to our surpise on second night the room was made up again???? the cleaning staff left their tools etc in the hallway the entire time we stayed here. The hotel is faded, entry from garage looks like it is never cleaned. Guests had to sign up for a specific time for breakfast and were checked in sometimes. Once saw them warn very old and disabled couple that they were there at the wrong time and might have to be sent out if more people came. Breakfast was relentlessly the same... vegetable quiche, sometimes overdone, some bread bake of some kind, the same bland cheese and ham every day, no sliced bread but bagels, yogurt, some kind of underdone cake, pretty bad croissants, except near end of stay, the croissants got better. The staff in the breakfast room were very nice and capable. The desk staff looked like they were sucking lemons during most of our exchanges. I wonder if management every stays in these rooms to see what guests see. We stayed at HH in past, but this was so awful. Never again.…
Charming hotel with great staff. Our room was just fine, and location is great. Breakfast was very nice. Parking right on site is nice. Make sure to check multiple websites for room rates as there was a pretty large range when we booked.
As soon as you check in you are taken care of. The front desk were professional and very kind. The Room was great and everything worked, ie Hot water, Air Condition, ... The virtual Reception Ivy is awesome. You have a question, its responded in seconds. We even checked out over a text :) You want a quite chilled place to stay, consider this place Oh breakfast was awesome too :)
The hotel was very nice, clean and offered breakfast, shuttle service and wine and cheese. Staff were friendly. The hotel was in a nice quiet area. The room was very comfortable and clean. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
We have been coming to Harbour House and the Shaw Festival for many years. Staff understand service at this hotel, they get it right and they pay attention to detail. Nice rooms, comfy beds, a free breakfast that is excellent, great coffee, free wine and cheese, free shuttle. How good is that. Guest Services Manager Jennifer Dickson, front desk staff Daniella, Tanya and Jess, kitchen staff Jamie and Brenda, and shuttle drivers Walter and Don. These people work hard and go above and beyond to ensure your stay is a good one. Experience this hotel. You will want to return.
Everything was perfect-location, complimentary wines and cheeses, shuttles anywhere, virtual concierge and even things we didn’t think of but were offered or done for us. They even heated our pizza leftovers and served us. Who knew?
Several years ago we read an article that this hotel was where a few well known movie stars prefer to stay when in NOTL. After staying at many other properties we finally booked and stayed a night. The higher end rooms were already booked, so we went with the middle tier on the second floor. The room was very large and the bed was comfortable. To be completely honest, the room had more of a Best Western feel than a high-end boutique experience. There were minimal toiletries. The pre-mild shower has an upgraded shower head that did t work properly. The bathroom was small and basic. The room was dark and filled with mismatched dark brown furniture. Yes, perhaps trying for an antique look but in reality it felt like the room were discarded furniture was put. There was a glass decanter to use at the water station, however it wasn’t working and apparently hadn’t been for a while so we asked for bottled water from reception. There is a Manager’s Happy Hour and breakfast included. Breakfast is tea/coffee, juice, fruit, yogurt, and a bread puddling so to speak. Staff was pleasant and friendly. There were caretakers outside working and smoking that took away from a quaint atmosphere, along with a very slow and creaky elevator from the covered parking. I can’t say this hotel is on our return list, especially given the price.…
