The only good thing is the terrace with its view. But after staying there for a few nights, I had to change to another hostel (HI Toronto), since I definitely had enough of it. It's very dirty, not only in the bathroom with mold, but also in the common area, which is the only place where there is Wifi, and...

Stayed here for two nights. It is not much; a bedroom with two beds. Share a separate bathroom and separate toilet. It all looks a bit old, but it's relatively clean. Breakfast is very good! You can choose 5 items (incl. drinks, cornflakes and all kinds of pastries). Very good located. Easy to get there by public transport. Not sure...

If you are looking for a place to stay and you do not mind noise during night, heat during summer nights (no AC), go for it! This place is not really clean either. Even there is housekeeping every day, they just sweep the floor in the shared bathroom really quick and that is it. I had to clean the table...

Surely we are not talking of a hotel. It is a structure that is good for young people, not suitable for families with children in tow. Among the positive points, the location, the price, I would also include breakfast. Among the cons: it is a structure that would need a renovation, the rooms on the lower floors facing the street...

I was in Toronto to stay with my brother and he was supposed to fumigate his apartment Friday, but he didn't get around too it until Sunday when I was supposed to arrive... needless to say I was not happy about that and I needed a cheap place to stay fast! Neil-Wycik was the place available that was close and...

I called and made a reservation for 4 nights and called the day before arriving to confirm but upon arrival they didn't have me down for my arrival date, they had me down for 3 nights, not 4, and starting the day after my arrival date. They told me they were booked but managed to find me a room but...

I have traveled before and stayed in hostels, but this was worse than any I've ever been in. I was not expecting luxury, but this was absurdly terrible. There is a lot within walking distance, but unfortunately that includes many unsavory neighborhoods and buildings and people. The staff is completely incompetent. There was no parking available when we got there...

You book to stay in a college residence to save money so you lower your expectations and accept the "institutionalised" facilities. Still, Neill Wycik was advertised as allowing access to a kitchen and that made it attractive because I want to save on food. Alas, that was not to be. The kitchen was empty - there wasn't even a kettle...

I lived at Wycik for 13 years (it is a student co-op that rents out rooms in the summer months when some students go home) and worked there in the hotel as well during the summer. The summer hotel is actually a hostel and is meant mainly to cater to backpackers and student or people on a limited budget. Contrary...

Don't stay here, it is beyond disgusting! I rented a room for four months during my internship and if I had seen the place before I would never have chosen it! The room was so dirty when I arrived, like no one had cleaned it for years! I had a mouse in my room and when I went to complain...

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
