I was upgraded on arrival to a spacious, quiet room. The furnishings are old-school, including a lovely stone and mirrored bathroom and a big couch. I got a lot of writing done between stints of visiting family at McGill and seeing exhibits. If this location is close to who/what you want to see in Montreal, you will be happy here...

The Chateau Versailles has an excellent location: close to the bar scene downtown and right next door to the museum of fine arts. We loved how easy it was to get around and how close we were to everything. The room we stayed in was in the basement/garden level, directly next to the laundry/service room. It was noisy with the...

You don't have to go to Europe to stay at a boutique hotel. Everything you'd expect was at the Chateau Versailles in Montreal--valet parking, excellent breakfast and fireplace in the room. Staff were super attentive and our room was huge, overlooking Sherbrooke Street. If you don't know Montreal, its location is perfect for visiting the Musee Des Beau Arts and...

Liked the rooms, though not as modern or flashy as American ones. Liked the small Continental breakfast -- great croissants and coffee, again, European in character, not store-types. Did not like the astro-turf on the outside stairs that are not appealing and very slippery when wet (which I learned the hard way). I see why they cover the old stone...

Stayed here for two nights on a conference trip. The service was great, the people friendly and the hotel was elegant and charming. My room was large and clean. My only complaint about the room would be that my window faced a brick wall, but I wasn't there to stare at the wall. The wifi was free and the breakfast...

On Sherbrooke street close to the Musee des beaux-arts and just about every thing else this is a great small hotel. You can walk to St Catherine St., trendy Crescent St., McGill and everything downtown. The fireplace rooms are spacey and comfortable. Good soundproofing keeps out the traffic noise but allows for a great view. Valet parking is great for...

- close to downtown and metro - hotel a bit older, so stairs and floors could be squeaky if someone walks past your room - clean room - friendly staff - minimal valet parking, but paid lot is not far (5 min walk) from hotel

A group of us assembled here to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of an operetta society we'd all started at a local university. Charming welcome from receptionist who could not do enough for us, once we explained that we should like quiet rooms - we were allotted 301 & 306 which are long spacious rooms stretching the depth of the building...

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
