We had a couple of days to spare and were in Rutland Vt so we decided to spend them in Montreal - We booked a Petite Suite at the Hotel Nelligan and it was one of the best decisions we have ever made - Our room was large, well appointed and the bathroom with the huge hot tub and rain...

My husband and I just returned from a two-night mini-vacation at the Hotel Nelligan in Old Montreal, and what a treat it was! Housed in a beautifully set of restored 19th century buildings, this small, charming hotel was a perfect spot to come home to on a cold winter's night with its cozy, beautifully appointed lobby, comfy fireside chairs, well-stocked...

We went to the bar after a gala evening at the convention center. Service was excellent and welcoming. We ordered a bunch of finger foods, all delicious. Definitely want to stay here next time in Montreal. Love the atmosphere

Right in the heart of Old Montreal. You can walk to pretty much anywhere you need to go and beyond if you like walking. Down -Town Montreal is very easy to get around in. There are plenty of nice places to stay in old Montreal but we really like the Nelli. The staff are very personable and friendly, and the...

I stayed here for one night on a business trip and had a fairly good experience, although I had a room facing the street and the noise from the club next door kept me up for some time at night. The rooms overall were clean, very large and comfortable. The hotel had pretty good charm and would be great for...

I've stayed at the Nelligan between 100 and 200 times since it opened. Amazingly, I've never had a single problem and have never been disappointed. The hotel offers immaculate service in beautiful historic surroundings. The lounge and bar are human scales - you can enjoy a fireside drink while you read or chat with friends. The furnishings are continuously upgraded...

Our stay at the Hotel Nelligan was fantastic. We came in for a weekend getaway and we weren't disappointed. The hotel is located in the old part of Montreal (roughly 20 minutes from the airport). It's very close to the water and surrounded by many restaurant options. The hotel is small (only 5 floors) but that's what I liked about...

I stayed at the Nelligan for two nights in early November and was very impressed by the service and quality of the hotel. The concierge is among the most helpful I've ever had, and the rooms were spacious, clean and very nice looking. I had read complaints about street noise being an issue--perhaps it was the time of year, but...

Just returned from three nights at Hotel Nelligan. Great hotel! Rooms are nice, location can't be beat and the staff was very attentive. Anything we needed, they took care of it. The concierge (Natalie I believe is her name) got us a last minute reservation at Bocata (which was incredible as well). Thanks to the whole staff at Hotel Nelligan.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
