Reception is quick and friendly. As an SPG member I was given a top floor room with a great view of Montreal. Free espresso downstairs was a nice touch. Funky hotel the renovations have really improved this space and I would definitely stay here again.

We've stayed here almost annually for several years, and we were wowed by this stay. They reconfigured the lobby, moving the front desk and breaking through the wall to make it a spacious attractive lobby leading in to the restaurant. Heretofore it had been the size of a closet, and was essentially a pass-through to the elevator. They had started...

This hotel has mixed blessings. The rooms are small but clean with a nice desk if one desires to work. There is no free coffee provided in the room but SPG members are given coupons for a free cup in the lobby bar. Breakfast is generally not included and is relatively limited in scope. Wireless is free and the front...

This hotel is wonderfully intimate. The bar and restaurant are practically in the lobby and quite nice. The rooms are clean and newly remodeled, Malin + Goetz amenities in the bathroom, mine overlooked an alley with someone's kitchen about ten feet away. If you love taking a shower, you wont love the shower: the water-saving shower head is water-saving to...

Wow almost in the middle of downtown Montreal, but far enough outside to enable easy access and great parking. The staff are extremely accommodating and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. At not point do you feel like just another guest. The rooms are large and well furnished. Everything about the hotel would make you want...

n Montreal, my hotel of choice is Le Meridien Versailles, located on Rue Sherbrooke, just a few blocks from Rue Sainte-Catherine, one of the main commercial streets in the city. The hotel has easily become my home away from home with the credit belonging to the staff, from those who work at the front desk, to housekeeping, to the valet,...

Have been staying here regularly since I first visited Montreal, but hadn't been for a couple years. The hotel has a very good location, on the northwwest corner of downtown, which is very convenient to Concordia and McGill universities, and also to attractions like the Canadian Centre for Architecture. The prices are quite reasonable, the staff are helpful and professional,...

Have stayed here twice. Will stay again. Location is A plus. A block or 2 from the main street. Beautiful architecture all around. Clean modern rooms. Surprisingly big. I have status at the hotel but they upgraded my friends other 2 rooms as well. Very much appreciated. Helpful friendly staff. Great value for the area. Love this hotel and will...

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.

Various details of design/ fittings/ finishes/ accessories attracted us as being neat/ different BUT... drawbacks we hit:

- In our room (a junior suite), be prepared to get down on your knees to operate the room safe as it is conveniently (not) located about 6" above ground level. For some, no problem, but at our age and with our arthritics, a major problem. So we just didn't use it.

-The elevator buttons have a circle of light round them when pushed. But there is no light to make it easy to see on the panel WHICH FLOOR you want. Why on earth put a dark number embossed on a similar dark background? Absolut nuts. We saw other people having the same problem, needing to peer at the panel from a few inches away!

-First hotel we've used in 40 years where there was no walk-in shower - you had to enter the tub to use it. For us, a major concern there was no grab handle to help getting on or if we should slip.

- Service charming but slapdash. Imagine ordering croissants and jam, and getting croissants with mayo and ketchup! And the ONLY place in decades when you ask for a cup of coffee it literally comes in a cup covered with plastic wrap. Which fails to keep it hot on the trip from the kitchen to the guest room. Why on earth not have small pots/vacuum flasks like everyone else?

-Service again. Charming but ... at the desk we asked for our check while we waited for the taxi to come. Guy says sure and goes to computer but is immediately diverted by another guest wanting some tourist information. Why didn't he complete our check first? 5 minutes later taxi comes, no check. We say we're leaving, he says he will email the check. One week later we call and say where's the check? They say sorry, don't know why it wasn't sent, maybe we mislaid your email address. Gimme a break!

- As weekend tourists, a huge disappointment that, after returning from dinner out on saturday night, we could not go to the hotel bar because it and the restaurant were closed for a private function.

- there were other things but I can't recall them now.
