My husband jokes that he likes motels for their colour TVs but, even with lower expectations, this one was a disappointment. We would recommend it only if there are no other affordable options. The cost for a standard room for two nights was more than $400. The bed was just OK, the pillows cheap -- what you might find in the spare room of someone who doesn't want you to get too comfortable. The bathroom fan was loud, the toilet ran and the bathroom light only worked if you took it apart and played with the flourescent tube. And noisy! OMG. A previous reviewer commented that truck traffic started at 4:30 a.m. He didn't mention that street noise doesn't stop until 2:30. Worst was the smell of mould in the carpets. With no air conditioning, we had to keep the patio screen open day and night. What's more, the rooms aren't cleaned during a stay, but an envelope on the bedside table invites a gratuity for room cleaning! Still, we really wanted to go whale watching. Seeing the whales was wonderful, and we were grateful to find a place to stay. As well, the nearby bakery, which opens at 6:30 a.m., was a delight.…
Spent two nights in a standard room recently which had a 'private' patio on the ground floor. Front desk service was very helpful and recognized my French was poor. Our room was very clean and the only drawback was we had to move the fridge to reach the only accessible power outlet; no big deal. Ceiling fan was a bit noisy - no aircon and no windows that can be opened. Ground floor patio door ensured we had to keep curtains closed for privacy at all times. Lashings of hot water, possibly scaldingly hot. Bed was a standard mattress, no pillow top, but quite comfortable. TV only offered French channels. The booking service commented on road noise in the Economy Rooms but not in the room we booked, but bc the building is only one room deep, road noise from the trucks heading to and from the ferry is inevitable for all rooms; perhaps the ground floor rooms experience less noise than the upper rooms - whatever, it starts around 4.30am; bring earplugs if you think it will be an annoyance. The motel is one of the first establishments you come across in the village, therefore is the furthest from the viewing rocks, maybe 1 1/2km. Parking is often at a premium around town so be prepared to walk up and down a couple of steep hills.…
We had a room in the front, away from the the highway traffic in the back, so it was quiet, except for the portable room A/C which was much appreciated because of the intense heat (35 centigrade) but was inevitably noisy. The kitchenette was very convenient and well equipped. The location on the main street was perfect as it was 10 minutes from the harbour and less than 5 for the restaurants and shops. Parking is free.
Nice cosy clean room. Parking was available front and back. We had a room on the end of the block downstairs, so could hear people going up the stairs. Check-in was quick and they spoke English well. Motel located at the end of the main road running through the town. Conveniently located next to the AML office and opposite the pick up point. Room had a small kitchenette which was well equipped. We didn't opt for the breakfast option. Enough restaurants also were down the road along with a supermarket. Harbour was a 10-15 minute walk away.
We stayed there for just one night as we were planning to see the whales the next day and leave. The good: We had an issue with our deposit and they kept the room for us anyway. Rooms are nice for a motel. Bathrooms modern. Room is clean. Staff friendly and makes an effort speaking english. Motel close to everything by foot. Parking spots. The bad: Bed is rock hard. Noisy outside. No AC. Hallways are ALL pink!!! No exit route signs behind the doors of rooms in case of fire. Floors uneven in hallway. Tv screen smaller than a laptop. For a motel, the place is nice. But if we knew, we would had paid $40 more for the night and stayed in the city’s more luxurious hotel.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The people at the reception were very friendly and helpfull. The organized an adaptor for europian plugs. Free parking is available in front of and behind the Motel. All the attractions and the pier are within walking distance.
Our family of three booked the hotel through booking.com, paid CAD 177 for one night (149+tourist tax+Quebec tax+federal tax), didn’t expect anything spectacular but was expecting something decent. We were put in room #3, and it was disappointing. It was hot summer day, there is no AC in the room, but we cannot open the window at night since the highway is just outside of the window. The room is small, no balcony, carpet is old and smelly. What bothers me is that the smell went on my clothes and followed me for a long way. Other than being close to the highway, the location of the motel is pretty good, next to the cruise company office, cross street to a very nice restaurant, walking distance to the bay. If you are paying a cheap price I think it’s probably ok as a overnight place for it’s convenient location. But I wouldn’t go back for $177. …
It doesn't look like much from the outside - particularly if your room is round the back where it looks a little like somewhere like Mulder and Scully would be on one of their stakeout trips - but Motel l'Anse a l'Eau was clean and comfortable with friendly, welcoming staff in a pretty town on the waterfront. Located at about a 10 minute walk from the waterside restaurants and literally a one minute drive from the ferry terminal (depending on traffic as you have to turn onto the main road and turn left for the ferry). Close to activities such as boat cruises too. Breakfast not included in the price but is available for about $8 (croissants, muffins etc)
We were surprised by how clean and well maintained this place was. Very basic and noisy location (our room was on the « highway » side). Cheap and worth it if you are not too fussy and wanna save some money.
we stayed here for one night. the motel is ok. our room was clean and spacious. the staff was friendly and helpful. i would have got 4 points but the room smelled very bad. i guess is was the very old carpet in the room. we could not get the smell out. Considered the smell, the room was clean an absolutely ok. would stay here again but i would complain about such a smell the next time.
