Las Catalinas is one of those places where all you want is relax and enjoy nature. It as small village with beautiful private owned villas that are rented for tourists. It is a car free environment with great Infrastructure, pool, fitness, bar and restaurants, convenience stores. You can also do all sorts of adventure sports, from diving to kayaking, from biking to hiking, all is easily found. The beach is clean and the water welcoming. Great place that I would love to go back to. Pura Vida!

I rarely write a review…, but since I benefit from reading the reviews of other people.., I am thinking I should contribute more.

Last week, a group of friends and I traveled to Costa Rica and stayed at Las Catalinas. We had a five star vacation at this gorgeous resort!! They have lots of different accommodations to choose from. (Which will soon include a gorgeous 45 room Hotel that is opening in 2 weeks.)

Since we were a group of five couples, we rented a large house called Casa Brewer. A six bedroom, 7 1/2 bath property with a gorgeous ocean view. It has a private pool and courtyard area that is amazing. It came with two house mothers who grocery shopped for us, cooked breakfast, cleaned all day, did laundry, made amazing guacamole dip, etc.

There are lots of different activities on the property. Yoga, Paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, biking, etc. (They have Zip cars if you want to go off property for $12 an hour…, or they will chauffeur you anywhere.)

During our six night stay, a few of the guys went fishing and caught five large Mahi Mahi. It was just a half day commitment which was nice as they didn’t want to go out for the full day. We had a private chef come in to cook the fish for dinner that night which was really nice.

All of us went zip lining and enjoyed the Hot Springs.., although it was a long drive to get there.

I went on a 2 hour horseback ride. It is normally $60, but I wanted a private so we could canter on the trails or beach a little, so I paid $120. Well worth the money!!

We all went out on the “Panache”, a large catamaran to have lunch and see the sunset. The Captain and crew were fun, the lunch, the music, the cleanliness of the boat, etc. was all excellent. There were about 35 people on the boat. Some snorkeled, some just swam around with a noodle, and some stayed on the boat. We were on the water from about 2 pm to 6. ($85 a person)

The Bike shop on the property is top notch. The guys all enjoyed the mountain biking. They went out with a guide the first day and then were on their own every other day. We hiked every morning as there are trails right outside your door.

The grocery store on the property is over the top. Really gourmet--, it has everything you ever wanted.

There is an adult pool, a family pool, and a lap pool. And a fabulous shop called “Las Catalinas Collections” that carries hats, resort wear, beach bags, jewelry, etc. High quality stuff with lots of style!!

Most everyone got a massage, or manicure, or hairstyle,.., some kind of Spa treatment while we were there. I heard nothing but great reviews from everyone.

The bartenders and servers at the Limonada Restaurant could not be nicer!! Great food and good service.

Be sure and have dinner at Sentido Norte up on the hill and see the sunset.

There are lots of places nearby where you can rent Wave Runners, or a jet ski, or ATV 4 wheeler's, etc.

As you can tell, I highly recommend this resort!! Every inch of it is immaculate and the beaches are wonderful. This place will continue to get better and better. We are definitely going back and taking our kids. The employees were super friendly and always try and go above and beyond your expectations. I hope this review is helpful to some of you and you will give this wonderful resort a try!!

I'm not sure if this is the correct Las Catalinas but I was recently in Costa Rica and my boyfriend and I got stuck on a road that we weren't actually supposed to take, this was when we encountered a man named Julio from Las Catalinas, he said he was the "Head of Security" at one of the resorts and saw us stuck! He came and got us unstuck with some great car handling skills.

We were really in the middle of nowhere, no lights, and it was late, we were actually worried! Out of nowhere Julio and his colleague came to our rescue, PURA VIDA thank you!!!!

We had a reservation to visit in April of 2019. When coronavirus hit, we asked for and were told we would receive a full refund.
On March 16, Las Catalinas promised a refund of our $6200. Since then and despite several requests, Las Catalinas has refused to refund the money it agreed to.
This outfit seemed legit, but clearly is not.
Be very wary.

Las Catalinas is small village with beautiful privately owned villas, a hotel, a couple of restaurants, a bike/kayak rental store. we stayed in the central building for 5 nights. lovely setting and spacious apartment/villa (3 bedroom). The beach is lovely, the town cute but a little limited on amenities like adult pool, and options to eat -- the bakery was closed 2 of the 5 mornings we were there. The service was not up to the quality of a premium hotel. 1. on the day we checked in I reported a blackout blind missing - this is rather nice to have when the sun rises at 6:-) I called again the following day... no one ever stopped by to replace it. 2. the maid service was sparse - didn't show up our second day, did the 3rd, on the 4th we said they could skip but needed a few more beach towels (none showed) on the 5th day the maid told the other couple to wash the beach towels when she asked for more. 3. we checked with the concierge if transportation to the airport had been booked. they said "no" which was great because we had learned that they charge $300 but we could arrange our own for $90. The morning of our departure the bellman told us our car was there (15 min early). my husband told the bellman we had not ordered through the hotel, we were using Alex (who we had used a few days earlier for a tour). I went to get coffee at the little store and returned 10 minutes later and the bellman again said our car was here. I asked "Alex?" and they said yes. the driver shows up and they quickly putting our bags in. I asked the driver if he worked for Alex and he said yes. 10 minutes later Alex calls me to say he's waiting in the lobby. Very frustrating! It appears that they knew we did not book with them but wanted to use their service and thus the rush to get us out. 4. there was a wedding at the main beach front restaurant one night - the other restaurant had to have known that pretty everyone else in town would be going there yet even knowing our large group was showing up at 7:00 for pizzas and salad bar they only had one small propane fired pizza oven... rookie mistake - long wait time between pizzas.

Stayed in a villa for a week with a plunge pool. Las Catalinas is a fairly new vacation destination, but developing fast. If you want a laid back vacation with wonderful food and excellent service, this is for you.
