As a solo student staying there recently, I was made very welcome by the very friendly staff. The rooms were recently refurbished to a very high standard, and were very sizeable and comfortable [and warm!]. The homemade food was excellent and tasty. Well worth visiting!

As a coach driver bringing students to the area they booked me into the hotel. A nice friendly and efficient greeting and service by Rachael. Spacious and very clean twin room with modern bathroom. Overall a really clean and well cared for hotel. All staff friendly and efficient. Great breakfast to start the day and good home cooking at night....

Stopped here for lunch on our way to Dumfries. Met by the owner Rab who was an excellent host, witty and honest, had a good conversation about all the projects planned for the hotel and parking area. The food was excellent and piping hot. Will definitely be back as our short stay was a joy, sprinkled with a lot of...

Spent the night for a dinner bed and breakfast with my partner and our 3 kids, and thoroughly loved the stay. A very warm welcome from Rachel who showed us to the room, and let our kids meet their lovely wee dogs too! Room was lovely! The highest room in the highest hotel in Scotland, and was furnished to a...

The Hopetoun Arms is about 5 miles off the A74, good if you want somewhere off the beaten track in a peaceful place. We turned up on a motorcycle and were made very welcome. Check in was very easy, we were shown to our room which was a very generous size indeed. The bathroom was modern and again, a very...

Relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Pretty surroundings and steeped in village life. If you are local, visitor or tourist definitely drop in for a drink or meal or perhaps even just a coffee. The menu offers good pub grub and the specials board that little bit extra. The open coal fire is a treat on a cold winters day.

Brought in 2017 with great festive cheer and entertainment, even a generous spread of food put on by the owners. Had an amazing new year's day dinner which was great value. The venison was beautiful and I hope today's food will be considered as a permanent addition to the menu.

We stay here nearly every month when we go gold panning. It is in a gorgeous scenic location perfect for gold panning, walking and outdoor activities. The bedrooms are modern, always warm and cosy with everything you need. The bar area is welcoming with an open fire and comfy chairs. The owners are fantastic, always happy and make you feel...

Love this hotel. Stayed for the first time and will be returning on my next trip to Scotland. Arrived after dark so could not appreciate the drive from M74 to Leadhills. The room was fabulous and bathroom enormous with free standing bath and separate shower. Excellent service from staff. Breakfast had everything and was very generous. Thank you.

A wonderful pub style bed and breakfast. I arrived after dark so didn't really take in any surroundings. After staying in a recently renovated room, which was immaculate, I opened my curtains to a quaint snow covered village*. A pleasant awakening to say the least. The bathroom was phenomenal and even had a remote control in it so you could...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hopetoun Arms Hotel, originally constructed in the mid-19th century as a hunting lodge for the Hopetoun Estate, now forms the heart of the Scottish village of Leadhills in Lanarkshire and is the highest residential hotel in the United Kingdom. Set in the open countryside of the Lowther Hills in the Southern Uplands ‘twixt’ the rivers Nith and Clyde, the hotel is within one hour drive from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle, and just fifteen minutes from the towns of Sanquhar and Abington. Our family run private hotel and village inn offers eleven letting bedrooms, clean comfortable accommodation, good hospitality and excellent home cooked food, including a selection of mouth watering vegetarian dishes. We hold a full hotel license, so after your day out walking, cycling, golfing or just taking in the surrounding area, you can relax in comfort and enjoy a ‘wee dram’ in our fireside lounge, or if you prefer you can catch up with the friendly village locals in our cosy village bar. Whether your stay with us is on business or pleasure, you can be sure that after your stay with us is concluded, you’ll feel relaxed, invigorated and keen to return. ... more   less
