The Hotel Leyenda is a lovely family-friendly full service resort that could be wrongly mistaken for a budget hotel. Especially given the “and pizzeria” that follows its name on some online sites, implying something far more economy grade than this tranquil garden sanctuary with full restaurant, poolside bar, children’s play area, beach shuttle service, and attended shower/toilet at Playa Carillo when you get there. Think more like, “Hotel Leyenda, and great restaurant”. The on-property pools are lovely, sparkling clean and partly shaded with ample spaces for everyone from tiny splashers to quiet lap swimmers. There’s plenty of shade poolside, with foozball and ping pong tables for land-based fun, and of course all the amenities. Quick-drying towels? Check. Place to charge your devices poolside? Check. Shower in the shape of a seashell designed to match the fountain? Check. Leyenda has many thoughtful details to ensure a good stay. There’s a private villa available if you and your 15 best friends want to hold a house party. The kid’s trampoline is shaded to keep the little bouncers from burning. Food served at all meals is high quality, with a broad menu and generous portions. We especially enjoyed the fried mixed seafood platter with tempura’d vegetables, easily enough for two, noting that economy resorts don’t tempura asparagus as part of their “mixed vegetables”. A large, caring and experienced staff is comfortably bilingual, good-humored enough to let us exercise our Spanish and willing to repeat twice before reverting to English if we missed the plot. We celebrated our 29th anniversary there and they made us feel very welcome. All the usual area activities are available from the Leyenda, with ziplining, sea tours and horseback riding specials featured on a central bulletin board with schedules and pricing to make planning an easier exercise. Our room was well-appointed with 3 double beds, a fridge, large shower and long clothesline to dry all sorts of water gear. We overheard a Samara resident explaining that the Hotel Leyenda is the place they send family who don’t want to stay at their house, “because we KNOW they’ll have a good stay.” Be sure to book with the hotel by phone or email, as the best last-minute promotions do not appear on the hotel’s own web site.…

Beautiful hotel! Great food! Friendly staff! The hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens. There is a small playground for kids by the restaurant, The pool is nice with a bar and seating. The rooms were air conditioned with a refrigerator and wifi.

Wonderful stay. Clean, great service and shuttle to the beach. Wonderful drinks. Great for families and couples, not a party place. Beautiful gardens. Pools are also well kept and refreshing (but not cold). Margaritas were delicious, best I’ve ever had. Breakfast was included. Playa Carillo is beautiful and relaxing. The weekends at the beach are fun as locals come out with their families and music.

This was a fantastic place to stay for relaxation. Service everywhere was top notch. Good at the restaurant and poolside was excellent. We were greeted professionally and with smiling faces. Our room was cleaned, sheets changed and fresh towels everyday.

My wife and I stayed at Legend Hotel for several weeks in January. We cannot speak highly enough about how amazing our stay was. Roger from the hotel staff was an incredible guide. The rooms are very comfortable and service is first rate. The beach is a short ride away and you can either drive there in a few minutes or have the hotel take you in their shuttle. This may have been the most relaxing vacation ever and we look forward to returning soon.

What an unexpectedly wonderful resort and restaurant this is! We stayed in a beautiful room overlooking their lush property. Every employee paid attention to the smallest detail to make sure we felt pampered. The restaurant blew us away too, so much more than the pizzeria we were expecting. My husband had the gorgonzola tenderloin and I had the sesame seed crusted tuna in teriyaki sauce. The presentation and flavor were some of the best we've had in any country. The hotel is only 3 km from Playa Carrillo, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. You can either drive there yourself, or the hotel offers shuttle service. In addition, they'll set up chairs for you, and they have their own bathroom and shower facility on the beach. Can't recommend Hotel Leyenda, the restaurant, and the staff enough.…

It was the best hotel i went during my trip to Costa Rica. When we arrived, we received a perfect reception by Roger with a drink. Also, they have private services on the carillo beach (bathroom, chairs, etc.). The staff was very friendly and kind. They work very hard (we saw Roger to the reception, at the bar, the restaurant and the next morning) but still very Nice. The room was just perfect also! It worth the Price to take a superior room! I highly recommand this place! Dont miss your chance to stop there!

We stayed from Dec 30/2021 - Jan 3/2022. What a magical stay! The staff was amazing - I’d like to especially recognize the servers from the restaurant who were all so kind and accommodating and Roger the receptionist who was abundantly knowledgeable and resourceful. The food was really good, rooms were kept clean daily, and the pools were nice. Despite its distance from the beach, they offered a daily shuttle service to Playa Carrillo. This is the hotel/area to be at if you’re seeking a calming trip.

Incredible service. The restaurant is one of the best in the area. We tried 5 different dishes, all of them were amazing. Try the pizza! The amenities are great, and they have a trailer with a shower and bathroom that they park at the beach for guests (hotel is not that close to the beach but they have a shuttle service, the bathroom trailer, and beach beds for guest use at the beach). It was a great experience. Staff is really friendly and do their best to accomodate to your needs. We’ll definitely stay here next time we come to this area!

We have been visiting Hotel Leyenda for 5 years. It is always a very positive experience. The same staff has been there for several years and they always recognize us. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. They bring a trailer to the beach everyday which has a bathroom exclusively for hotel guests and they also bring beach lounges and set them up for you. The hotel is very clean with proper covid protocols. The breakfast menu has enough options for everyone. Having lunch or a snack or a fresh cup of coffee at the pool in the afternoon is wonderful.
