We haven’t been to the Salutation Inn during lockdown. We’re so glad we managed to get a reservation. The food is exquisite and the service is to the highest standard. We visited on Fri 18th December. We were served by a French lady who was exceptional at her job. Another individual we’d like to mention is a gentleman who seemed to be the sommelier. After serving our drinks, he asked us if we were the same couple he remembered from 4 years ago to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. He was right of course. He had a fantastic memory and we remembered from last time; an excellent knowledge of drinks and a genuinely calming manner. We enjoyed the 6 course taster menu and the would recommended it to anyone. It’s definitely worth the money.
We did some Christmas shopping in Exeter and decide to stay the night in Exeter well Topsham. Booked into the Salutation. What a find. Dinner b&b deal. Nice large room and bathroom very comfortable. First class meal of the highest quality with great attention to detail. Excellent staff who were attentive but not clawing. Excellent.
We visited the Salutation on Saturday afternoon to celebrate a birthday with an afternoon tea. The glass house is a lovely airy space that is comfortable and has a relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent, there were 6 of us and not a thing was left! The scones were lovely and light (not “claggy” like they can sometimes be) and are provided with a generous supply of cream and jam. The sandwiches were tasty and well seasoned and the cakes were all delicious. The carrot cake was my personal favourite. The staff are all lovely and friendly and service was excellent. I look forward to visiting the Salutation again in the future.
We wanted a safe hotel for a couple of nights to break a long journey. The Salutation was just perfect. Nicki provided a very warm Covid aware 'check in' showing us to Room 7 which was enormous, we have stayed in smaller apartments! A very large bedroom, separate sitting room with fridge, large reception hall, a full bathroom and second toilet with sink. Everything was spotless, beautiful bath sheets, crisp linen and thoughtful hand sanitiser were provided. On the lower floor The Salutation, which is a restaurant with rooms has a guest kitchen where a continental breakfast is left for guests to collect on the days the restaurant isn't open. We stayed on Monday and Tuesday night, it was very quiet but I suspect when the restaurant is open that would be different. Overall we were impressed, well done to everyone (we only saw two staff members) who are working hard to enable guests to enjoy a near normal mini break.…
