We really enjoyed our stay here. The walls were a bit thin but otherwise the room was great. The front desk staff was super friendly (a fellow Southern Californian was there our first day!) and helped us plan out some of our tour stuff. The...More
The main reason to stay here is that it's close to Flinders Chase NP. This is a good enough reason, as any other accommodation is quite a long drive unless you go to opposite ends of the spectrum - the super de-luxe (and super pricey)...More
Restaurant is 5-star, accom is 3.5 stars, and customer service is 5-star.
Quiet spot, close to national park. Hotel architecture looks good, designed to fit in with the bush surroundings.
Courtyard suites are pretty basic, equivalent to a motel room. Only about six television channels,...More

Although Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat has some dormitory type accommodations with cooking facilities, most of their rooms do not. Nearest grocery store is in Kingscote - about 100 km. Nearest self-catering accommodations are Hanson Bay. Most people who self-cater bring coolers with them on the ferry from Adelaide and get supplies in Kingscote. There is a small coffee shop at Hanson Bay and another at the Visitor's Center at Flinders Chase, but neither are open for dinner. The rooms at Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat do have small refrigerators so you can store cheese and snacks in your room, but no cooking facilities. If you stay at Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat, you should expect to eat most meals there. Nearest restaurants are Kingscote.
