My second time here. Perfect escape and nature rehab. The staff (forgot his name) bought us to our villa and helped us with our luggage. Although monkeys may disturb you at certain time but it was not annoying. Nature lover who desired for nature rehab recommended to come here as it may accommodate you with great hospitality as well.
Mosquito repellent provided, culinary set provided. All was perfect for me. No double standard hospitality like the other high profile glamping area nearby.

I fell in love when I saw this accommodation. We took the one with private pool. It is like a small infinity pool with that oversees the forest. Completely private. The chalets itself was good. There is a king size bed and another to single bed at the attic (how cool is that). There is even a small garden in the toilet. How can you not love this. We definitely plan to go again. It is a perfect getaway from the city.

I visited Danau Daun Chalets with my colleagues. It was a family event to have a BBQ and enjoy the a quick getaway from the busy routine. About an hour drive from KL.
Danau Daun Chalets are nicely located in a beautiful green backdrop. The Chalets are simple, clean and basic, no air conditioners. A good place for family retreat and BBQ. Must take mosquito patches or spray e.g. OFF Spray. Parking is sufficient, but be very careful when crossing the road or taking a walk. The bikes and cars drive very fast on the narrow road. If you are a bit adventurous and want to stay in the basic chalets ... this is the place. The 3G or 4G signals are not so strong , no Wifi so time to talk to each other rather than chat online :)

The Janda Baik area is about an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur. Therefore, it is a good area for city folks to escape to for a quick getaway over the weekend. Many boutique hotels, motels and homestays have sprung up to capitalise on the market. Among them is Danau Daun Chalets.

When we first arrived in Kampung Sum Sum Hilir (a viilage within Janda Baik area), we looked for the name "Danau Daun Chalet" among the many similar sign boards which are put up along the roads in Janda Baik - we saw it around 100 meters before the junction. Going further in, some 10 minutes later we saw another signboard which pointed to the Danau Daun Chalets Reception. We were about to turn into a junction and up the hilly road when a friendly man in front of a small building at the junction stopped us. Turns out the uphill road actually led to Danau Daun Chalet 1, and the small building was actually the reception. We had to register with him first, and he would lead us to Danau Daun Chalet 2 (where we are booked), which was some 200 meters further up the main road.

After registering and making the relevant payment, we followed him to the Danau Daun Chalet 2. Danau Daun Chalet 2 is just beside Danau Daun Chalet 3. Both chalets are situated in front of a small man-made lake. We were pleasantly surprised with the ambiance - the chalets looked inviting and has the warmth, surrounded by lush greenery and many bamboo trees. They were wooden chalets constructed in the style of a Malay kampung (vlllage) house, but were modern enough to pass off as one of the resort homes you can find in many upscale country-styled resorts in Malaysia.

Danau Daun Chalet 2 has 2 bedrooms with queen-size beds in each. It can easily accommodate 6 adults if spare mattresses are installed. It also has 2 bathrooms with open skylight showers. Mod cons include: flatscreen TV, comfy sofa, satellite TV, small microwave oven, kettle, small fridge, Although plates and kitchen sink are available, there is no area for cooking. The lounge is comfortable, and the veranda outside overlooks the lake - perfect if you want to enjoy the natural surroundings.

Outside, between Chalet 2 and 3, there is a 2 feet deep small pool, presumably for kids. You cannot swim in the lake as it looks unclean - a sign says not to swim in the lake. The lake has brownish water with some lily pads. At night frogs abound - you can hear them, especially after rainfall. Due to proximity to the jungle and with a lake in front of the chalet, all sorts of jungle sounds can be heard at night. A cool thing for those who love being one with nature.

Clean towels, shower gel and shampoo are provided, but bring your toothbrush. Don''t expect room service - It is a chalet concept, not a hotel.

There is a 'Kopi n Kraf' cafe, opened by the same owner of the chalets, situated some 100 meters to the side and uphill from the chalets. It is open 8.00am to 7.00pm, and can provide meals if required, for a fee of course. We pre-ordered our dinner for delivery to our chalet by 7.00pm. There is a small BBQ pit for each chalet - but you have to bring all the charcoal, etc.

Danau Chalet 2 and 3 are not located near any shops, commercial centers or large hotels. Therefore, you can count on a peaceful stay - except for the junge sounds you may hear at night. If If you need to buy something, a local convenience store can be found some 4km ahead.

We are already talking about coming here again, as Danau Daun is a short drive away from our home. It is comfy and cosy. The chalet is still in good condition, although it needs some minor repairs (shifting faucet, squeaky chairs). I believe in a few short years it needs to be refurbished and major repairs must be made.

Danau Daun 2 and 3 are not by a flowing river. The lake kind of makes up for that, but not as a nice as having a flowing river - for that, we have to drive up some 3km further. Plus, at night we could smell the stink of hydrogen sulfide, which is the result of rotting vegetation in the lake - the gas came out after it was stirred by the rainfall in the late afternoon. Not a pleasant smell.

We will come to Danau Daun again. But, we may want to try Chalet 1 next!

Location: Easy to be found, located at the roadside of Jalan Kg Sumsum Hilir, infront of Orphan House. Waze: Danau Daun Chalets. Parking is quite easy, either you park your car at the ready parking lot by the road, or you can park up to 2 cars near the fish pond (mainly for chalet 1 and chalet 2).

Surroundings: From the roadside you can see Kopi n Kraf cafe, wooden archway, fishpond, Danau Daun 1 & Danau Daun 2, with the background of the forest & hill.
Walking towards Kopi & Kraf, you can see the receptionist hut, where all of the payment and key(s) are to be given here. most of the building materials and items at this chalets i believed are coming from Indonesia and they are from reclaimed and old woods attached together with the arts of "tanggam".

Keep walking behind the receptionist hut, theres a junction, on the right side is the way down to Danau Daun 2 and Danau Daun 1, while on the left is the steps to Danau Daun 3 which is located just next to the Kopi n Kraf. Musholla (prayer) hut also located at the back of the cafe.

Small island in between Danau Daun 1 & Danau Daun 2 was build at the end of the fish pond complete with wooden table and bench for chilling. Fresh water pool for dipping also was build in between both chalets.

Chalet Review: we had a night at Danau Daun 1, the entrance was good, built with concrete covered bricks and plants climbing up on the top. there was a clay vast water container at the side of it. nice wooden steps and decks as we walked towards the main door and the door itself is very classic.

inside the chalet, smells flowery, great ventilation. very clean and we enjoy every detail of the workmanship of this chalet since both of us are really into the wood materials.

Guest are not allowed to cook inside the chalet and there is a bbq pit located at the back of the chalet just beside the fresh water pool. You just need to bring your own charcoal and bbq food. Since this is not our first time to a place like this, we brought our own charcoal, bbq net & cooler box with all the food inside.

The next morning my wife and i decided to give a shot at Kopi n Kraf for breakfast, we had Nasi Goreng and Mee Kari. Totally not disappointing at all. The food was delicious at a reasonable price. Open air toilet at the cafe was amazing.

Checkout: It was easy, just drop the key to one of the staff there.

Cleanliness: Amazing with flowery smell

Quietness: Since Danau Daun is located at the roadside, you can hear the vehicles passing by the road, but the noise level is acceptable when you are inside the chalet.

Things to improve: 1. Clay Vast water container at the side of the entrance of Danau Daun 1 is full with mosquito larvae, i tried to empty the vast upon arrival. The management should look into this matter seriously to avoid any dengue case.

2. Fresh water pool should be cleaned frequently. since it is in the forest, lots of leaves and dead insects inside it.

3. Location of bbq pit for Danau Daun 1 is too far behind, it is quite hassle for us to transfer the cooked food to the front.

Value For Money: YES

Will I Return?: YES

Pros
1) Quiet, beautiful and tranquil
2) Clean rooms
3) Location is ideal for weekend getaway as it is around 1 hours drive from KL. It is also located very near to Bukit Tinggi and is an ideal place to visit especially for the local produce
4) You are donating for CSR as well because a portion of the proceeds from the chalets goes to the local orphanage just across the street

Cons
1) There are lots of insects which is unsurprising considering it's in a rural area & there are stray cats that frequently begs for food in front of the door.

This year Deepavali 2016, is our family's 16th annual family gathering. Its a join effort that we look forward for every single year, with, everyone in the family from all over the world try to make it. It's always a 3D2N vacation that we choose yearly at different places every time. Majority of the elders in the family are vegetarians, making it sometimes difficult to arrange for a decent meal everytime we go for a holiday (since we don't get to cook when we are out). The cooks don\t usually do good at that sort of stuffs wherever we go. However i MUST say this time it was not the same. First an foremost, the hospitality given to our family by all the staffs @ Danau Daun was EXCELLENT! Thanking Mr. Zaini and Mr. Zayid from the bottom of our hearts, for the excellent service that you have provided us. Special thanks to Kak Inon, the great cook!. Loved the vegetarian meals that she prepared for our parents. It was simple, yet soo delicious!! The rooms were in pristine condition. Clean and neat. The prices are affordable. Definitely the place to go for, especially when you are in need for a spot to wind down!

I went there with my huge family of 16 adults and 5 kids.. we actually rented all the chalet.. the first 3 chalet danau daun 1, 2, 3 is close to each other while danau daun cottage and annexe is 500 mtrs away from the others. We had our bbq at the centre island in front of danau daun 2 which I thought was great. The chalet management could loan us extra chairs and tables for free.

My chalet danau daun 2 was spacious and great to keep all the kids indoor while parents bbq at night. It has a large living space which we all appreciate. The only downside for me was the bathroom which has open concept where you could see the stars at night. I am not so nature friendly. Haha!

Don't forget to bring repellant. There are many bugs. The chalet management also provide some repellant which was thoughtful of them.

Janda Baik is surprisingly a hidden gem, as it is only less than half and hour from the chaotic KL. The roads were smooth &I me and my friends stayed at the Danau Daun Cottage. It's cosy, very homey and beautiful interior design architecture.

Loved everything about the home. The views were amazing as it outlooks the hill of Mount Nuang, the sound of animals & the smell of fresh nature.

Perfect for a short weekend getaway & may bring your own food. It's equipped with a fridge, microwave and space for bbq.
