Well run, friendly, lovely rooms, great bar and superb food. Honestly charming as a place to stay as you can find. I have stayed for both business and pleasure (the latter based on the great business trip). Just a great place and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

My mother and I spent 2 nights here. We attended a wedding nearby that weekend. We picked this hotel because of its close proximity to the wedding venue - What great fortune on our part because we discovered this real gem! The hospitality was outstanding - We arrived after the kitchen had closed but they ran around to sort out... More

Absolutely beautiful, utterly charming. We stopped here in the middle of along walk in Rutland. Lovely interior and nice welcome, no riff raff as Basil Fawlty would say. Nice outdoor seating available and a good choice of soft drinks.

Nice, well presented and clean accom, however walls in the bedroom were not very soundproof and noise from next doors bathroom fan was disruptive throughout the night. Evening meal food was excellent and very well put together. Breakfast was unfortunately the complete opposite. Only a small amount of ham on breakfast buffet bar and we had to forfeit a cooked... In a pretty village this place is picture perfect. Our room was in an separate building to the pub & restaurant . Very comfortable if a little warm at night but a fan had been provided if needed . Nice big bathroom & shower with bath . All areas of the hotel were clean and stylishly decorated . The continental... More

We decided to have the Marquess of Exeter to be the place of our wedding reception..firstly when we sat down with Gill the wedding planner and started to plan our special day we looked around all the venue and the accommodation and this was the place for us..over the coming months we sorted meal choices and drinks and finally sat... Accommodation block very shabby interior decoration/dark rooms. We had booked a superior room at a cost of £114.50 per night which didn't include full english breakfast as we had thought. Very over priced. The room was on the groundfloor and had full length window overlooking a public area and had voiles which blocked the light to give privacy. On the... More

On arrival someone who worked in the bar checked me in, or rather gave me my key and pointed where to go after announcing my phone wouldn't work as I was on the Vodaphone network. Not a good start. Then I discovered the light over the bed didn't work. The owner then kindly changed my room to one upstairs and... More

We had visited the Marquess several years ago on the recommendation of a friend for the quality of the food. The owner showed us the accommodation that they had just completed. This weekend we decided to spend a night at the Marquess. Again the food in the restaurant was really very good. However, the accommodation had not been kept up... More

Another great meal in this lovely pub, great food, great service and friendly atmosphere. Although it was steak night (which is awesome, we've had this before) we all had an alternative this time and certainly not disappointed. Accommodated for my 10 mth old baby (who is noisy and messy) with no tutting or frowning. Top of my list for pubs... More
